The last part is what makes it perfect to me. The whole song is so pretty, it's describing what it's like to be in Eden and the ending is him yearning to go back to the comfort of Eden or innocence. It's incredible storytelling. No different from an actor screaming in a scene.
The warning was actually in the lyrics this time. He said he was about to bite back in anger and he did! That final explosion bringing the album to the end. I know there’s Euclid, but that’s the trilogy finale as far as I’m concerned. That’s why it has made sense to me, although I didn’t pick that up on first listen. It’s my favourite song by them so far. I really hope you get to see them live, as they’re phenomenal! I could argue that the atmosphere, theatrics and sound makes it even better than the actual recordings!
Yeah the whole thing almost seems like an album about grieving. Losing things in stages, seems all calm at first, then the sadness and guilt sets in and it all builds up to anger and a complete breakdown. Then you're calm again. This song itself even talks about losing things you took for granted.
Aswell with the storytelling in the lyrics, the last part is really fitting."I dont know what got its theeth in me but im about to bite back in anger" The hard part kind of got called out by that lyrics . I think this is what i thought.
I think the whole brutality of the ending is maybe us being barred from Eden, and our final desperate screams to be let back, but also the brutality is a perfect reason why we can't go back. In the song, it says "No amount of self-sought fury will bring back the glory of innocence". It's like a part of us desperately wanting to go back to that beautiful and unobtainable past.
This song is filled with references to older songs. Every section is a throwback to everything they've done. The melody right before the breakdown is a slowed down version of the melody of the Offering and the lyric is from Chokehold.
I love the last part. The whole song sounds like an internal struggle type of conversation with himself, then the last part he just overflows with frustration
For me, this song is pure perfection. I absolutely love it. Thank you for the reaction! Your facial expressions reflect what you are thinking and feeling.
Hi Sean, another great reaction as always. Re: the ending. I’m not sure whether you’re familiar with the Lore but the crushing heaviness represents the denouement of Vessel’s relationship with Sleep. The song marks the end of the trilogy of albums that begun with Sundowning. There is a subtle hint it’s coming in the line in verse 3 “But I’m about to bite back in anger.” W O R S H I P
This whole album is revolutionary. I really believe that there is something in it for everyone, even if you don't particularly enjoy rock or metal music. The lyrics are poetry at it's finest and the way Vessel sings with such passion makes the words cut even deeper. This band is pure genius.
The reference to chokehold in this song just before the breakdown is great too "when were were made, I know it was no accident. We were tangled up like branches in a flood." Is what he was saying in the background
My take on the end is that the majority of the song is designed to feel like Eden. Dreamlike, vibey, luscious. The catch is that the song is called "TAKE ME BACK to Eden". The dissonance of the end might be partly intended to make you feel "kicked out of Eden"
Love the ending! Sleep token just sleep tokening, I've been listening since 2020 so I've come to expect the unexpected and they haven't disappointed at all. If anything I was surprised they went so dirty lol. Plus all the call backs and foreshadowing make this the perfect song. Worship 🙏
Played guitar for 30 years, heard so many songs....between the grand production of this, the musicianship, the absolute vocal talent, lyrical quality, the melding of angelic, rap, harsh vocals, and pulling it all off? One of the best songz ive heard in decades.
I def respect your opinion on the heavy ending! I was a bit torn on the ending myself for a lot of the same reasons. I definitely love it NOW tho. I really would love to see your reaction to Ascensionism!! Esp re: your comments about the autotune!!!!
Yeah you just have to understand the meaning of the album to really enjoy the angry part at the end. "Take Me Back To Eden" is essentially "take me back to the good times" and anger is a huge part of dealing with loss. It's an entire stage of grief.
I think that last part was the special sauce that made the song. With Sleep Token it's all about the juxtapositions and contrasts between light and dark, soft and heavy, soothing and chaotic. Also, when you follow along with the lyrics, that last heavy part totally fits the story that's being told
The point of the heavy part IS to throw you off. Its an expression of the emotion that he's trying to portray. I respect your opinion, and i love the heavy bit. 🤘💜
Come on, you know better by now that Sleep Token always kicks the heavy in out of the blue. You never like when they do it either but that is definitely a favorite thing that most fans like them to do.
It’s something they do in a minority of their songs. Rarely do I like the abruptness of their heavy switch but occasionally I don’t mind it or at least can get past it.
They definitely do it enough to where the fans anticipate it happening and are sometimes surprised when it doesn’t. I definitely think it’s something that if you’re a big Metal fan, you love it when they do that. To me it always fits because the songs although beautiful, are still very dark and the heavy riffs just bring everything to fruition.
I can definitely understand why you may find that breakdown at the end jarring and unnecessary. It's your particular taste and it has shown in previous reviews. I knew it was going to get the negative from you before the listen. Like I said, I totally get it. All I can say is that within the full context of the album and the emotions that vessel is trying to convey it makes more sense. Even if it's not the particular flavor you may be wanting at that particular time.
The last part took it from perfection to beyond perfection, like honestly that last part puts it over the top 11/10. The end signifies the anger bc of how badly he and wants to go back to the heavenly comfort feeling you described, Eden. It's almost a metaphor for losing your innocence, wanting to back to Eden is yearning for a feeling you can't get back to because you aren't the same person anymore, the feeling is gone and will never be the same. I've always liked when Sleep Token rips you back to reality and ends beautiful songs heavy af though, so it's not surprising I liked this ending.
To me, I quite liked that last part. I found it quite surprising but in a nice way. Might just be me, I like to see them keeping their classic Sleep Token sound with full on thick heavy guitars and they just doing things unexpectedly, overall I tend to like the heavy sound as well as the nice gentle style, but I completely understand what you mean about feeling thrown off as you were in a nice calming, vibing state and then that completely throws you off at the end. I completely understand
I’ve been waiting for this one. Love your reaction. I feel the same way, the second I hear his voice it gives me chills. Please do a reaction to Ascensionism. It’s incredible. 🖤
"..Relaxed tranquil state.. I'm just floating. And then you sucker punch me outta nowhere.." Dude, that's what Sleep Token is/does! 😄 They killed your vibe? Good! They did it right. Lol.
In the context of the album and the story being told throughout the ending makes complete sense it's his final explosion in anger and frustration at everything before the next song Euclid which is all about moving on from his situation and becoming a new person. But to me the ending of TMBTE is the start of that step to walk away, that final outcry before saying f this I'm done.
Apart from the absolute amazing lyrics, the chord progression during the key change...dude. These guys are something else. Album of the decade for me, no contest.
I think Ascensionism and Rain are going to be ones that really resonate with you. Worship! The breakdown is such a good part. It hits so good after a few listens. Take me back to eden. Take me baaaack... to eeeeeeeeden! And yes its supposed to be a suckerpunch! Its sleep token!
😅 I thought the ending made perfect sense and it’s a 10/10 either way. You were right to say that’s just your taste, as is this just my own. Loved your review. ❤
Loving Sleep Token, they are fairly new to me, and I think because of this I didn’t mind the ending. Always appreciate your reactions to my favorite artists. Thank you. ❤
For me the reason why ST called this song its title is because of the sheer callbacks. But the best and obvious callback in this album thus far is Euclid, and this title track is a perfect easter egg to that. Eden = beginning = callback to the first song off their first album
That heavy part is his anguish and yelling to the gods to take him back to the beginning (Eden)where life was simple. (My take on it) which leads perfectly into the beautiful song at the end, Euclid. Maybe give it one more listen♥️🙏
The Hip Hop Crowd loves "Ascensionism" on the new album. It's a RnB song with Rap and Autotune and then Metal in the end. Could be something for you. For me it was a grower ;)
Yet another person reviewing a Sleep Token song by only listening to the music but not hearing it. The last part is perfect if you follow the lyrics. It makes sense to have the unclean vocals with metal. It showing the anger and loss of something you can never go back to no matter how much you hope or try. You can never go back to Eden.
Yet another person that doesn’t understand subjectivity or an opinion. Even after this song has been explained, I still don’t like the abrupt switch from peaceful to heavy. It makes sense in why they chose to do it from an art perspective, but I still don’t enjoy the end result. Both styles are amazing on their own but they didn’t work together here for me. Cheers 🤘
It’s always been a thing with Sean that every time they bring the heavy “out of nowhere” he doesn’t vibe with it. But that’s such a HUUUGE part of Sleep Tokens identity. I think this is just bothersome for him because obviously his entire background in music was informed by hip hop and other more mainstream, traditional, standard, structured styles of music. But Sean, brother, buddy, my dude, you have GOT TO get past that! It’s absolutely earned and not as out of nowhere as a surface level assessment of them would lead you to believe. The heavys are the darkness that is always lurking in the music. The entity that is Sleep Token is like a lovecraftian old one who dwells in the darkest trenches of the sea with a deep vast well of knowledge and experiences lived yet so full of mystery and enigma. One that once you find them it lures you into its domain through the grandiose and hypnotic beauty that is their music. Only to remind you at the last second that even though this leviathan seems gentle and soothing it has merely been asleep and dormant. But now that you’re in it’s domain it absolutely will remind you that it is still an old god capable of FUCKING OBLITERATING any mere mortal foolish enough to become too complacent in its presence
Haha I love this comment 😂. After reading several comments, I understand the reasoning behind their choice to do the heavy part and creatively speaking, it’s pretty cool! I still didn’t enjoy the execution of it though. It’s not my background in music for me not liking their abrupt transitions in certain songs, it’s how strongly I feel vibes and emotions in music. I connect very hard with the artistry when I feel the music being an artist myself. It’s like the world stops spinning and I can see the music in my head. I was vibing very intensely with this song before they threw in the heavy bit. There was no precursors to it and the transition was too abrupt and violent. Killed my vibe. Still love ST though and hope I get to see them this year 🤘 worship
The ending is what Sleep Token is and always will be. Save the breakdown to the end. It truly completes the song. Go more in depth on their past work! Good review bro!
I disagree, they’re so much more than being known for throwing abrupt heavy vibes in the middle of their beautiful masterpiece music. I’ve been reacting to them for 11 months and their attention to detail, creativity, storytelling, raw emotion, unorthodox song structure and overall unique sound is what makes them ST. Cheers and worship 🤘
I feel the same way, I'm so sad and it feels forced, not to say its bad! it just feels like it doesn't fit and if you do make that ver. I would love to know where to find it!
The song is strategical just like all the others, this is the summoning in reverse. But I agree try ASCENSIONISM.. doesn't have to be a video, if you just want the feels ELUCID has emotional value to me. But defo have a listen to the other songs some are on the softer side. X
Even tho you didn't like the end but it goes together when you listen to what the lyrics say at that part and how it goes in to the meaning the of the song and lyrics too
If you're a metal fan that ending is the payoff you've been waiting for the whole song but if you're not I can see why it wouldn't appeal. Personally, I had the biggest smile on my face when that dropped, so fucking heavy. That's the beauty of taste though, everyone's is different and all are equally valid. I reckon both Euclid and Are You Really Okay? would appeal to you from this album and possibly Ascensionism although that does have a pretty heavy bit in it too.
I don’t think it’s that simple when it comes to taste. For instance, I’m a fan of metal and listen to slaughter to prevail, Lorna shore, motionless in white etc everyday at the gym. With this ST song, I like the heavy part on its own, it’s good, especially the drums but just out of place for me. I’m excited to check out the rest of the album and still love this band. I think you might have a better understanding of my taste after you see my acensionism reaction! Cheers 🤘
Yea at first I felt like this song is build around those different genre "bags" and goes back in that piano every time until the interrupt ending. And I did get spoiled that breakdown by some review before the album came out so I was waiting it whole song. That part sounds like it's some kind of fusion of Loathe and Lorna Shore, so they could make a feature for that on show or something. But yeah this album has 4 breakdowns out of 12 songs were Vessel screams and I think that is easily the weakest, just because it's so out of place compared to other half of the song.
The heavy part at the end is entirely intentional. It goes from pleading to be taken back to Eden, to DEMANDING to be taken back. Vessel doesn't do anything without absolute intention. Definitely get not liking it, though.
Aight, dude. Hear me out on this. You gotta spin this about 3 or 4 more times (and, if at all possible, a little help from your Aunt "Mary" 😂), consider the lyrics on the section where that last breakdown happens as it is reminiscent of how that, eventually, all things just crumble to sand, and get back to us on what you think. Maybe even another react video? I think you'll see what I'm saying. 😉
Haha I see what you’re sayin. I’ve played it back a few times and I understand why it’s there but I still don’t like how they did it. Still a phenomenal track tho 🤘
The heavy at the end served its purpose if it punched you like that lol.. It makes perfect sense in the concept of the entire album.. Still a great reaction though

Euclid just has a ton of callbacks to songs, that Sean havn't heard so I don't think that is the best pic for this reason unfortunately.
I think Euclid acts as the trilogy closer while TMBTE acts as the album closer imo!
@timcigar definetly!
You absolutely need to hear the rest of the album. There are reasons for everything they do brother
This! 🛐
It’s sooo goood!!!! I’m hooked!
All the callbacks makes this album Platinum level

As far as the ending, it makes more sense when you listen to the whole album.

The rest of the album is a must-listen. You would especially love Ascensionism
This is miles above ascensionism
+1 for Ascensionism
More comin!
For me, this song is pure perfection. I absolutely love it. Thank you for the reaction! Your facial expressions reflect what you are thinking and feeling.
🙏
Ascensionism is going to blow you away. It is one of the best pieces of MUSIC I’ve ever heard
It’s comin!
It had that effect on me and I skipped it when I wasn’t too into them but when I gave it a chance I had a eargasm, especially the last segment

I’ve listened to this track about 20 times already not including the 30 times I’ve listened to just the first three minutes.
I kind of wouldn't have minded more of that screamy heavy bit myself. They like seamlessly cramming several genres into a song and I am there for it
Was waiting for this to pop on my notifications. Right on brotha! This album is a masterpiece!

I'm in love with this album! The whole album is amazing

The breakdown is such a good part. It hits so good after a few listens.
Take me back to eden. Take me baaaack... to eeeeeeeeden! And yes its supposed to be a suckerpunch! Its sleep token!
PLEASE PLEASE react to sullivan king specifically watch the crown fall or the dead march!!!! 🙏🙏🙏
Every song I listen to becomes my favorite until I listen to the next song. This band is so fucking good.
It definitely took me a few listens to really appreciate the music. Now I’m hooked this whole album is just a masterpiece
Can you imagine these guys headlining a festival. 10s of thousands of people singing the huge choruses. My god thinking about that gives me goosebumps
That would be so lit 🔥
this album is a strong contender for AOTY
If not Album of the Decade
Yet sadly it will lose out to some 27 minute pop album written and produced in 3 months. 🤷🏼♂️ But that’s how things are now Ig
Ascensionism is gonna be your vibe for sure.
Thank you. ❤
The last part was the absolute perfect ending!!!!!!
Been waiting all day for you to drop this, my man.

I’ve been waiting for your video!!! Bruh, you really got do the whole album- trust in Vessel
The sucker punch at the end is one of my favorite things about this one.
A lot of ppl like it!
One of my favorites from the album ❤ I love the last part of the song because i'm always waiting for the heavier part 😅
Absolutely going double platinum for sure...
And i did love the end hahahahahha the entire atmosphere during the song

definitely need to listen to rain!!! i think you'd enjoy it a lot
always love seeing your reactions
The anger he feels at the end makes sense in the context of the album as a story
Great reaction! Love the whole album~
That heavy part is his anguish and yelling to the gods to take him back to the beginning (Eden)where life was simple. (My take on it) which leads perfectly into the beautiful song at the end, Euclid. Maybe give it one more listen♥️🙏
Absolute MASTERPIECE!
Like a lullaby ✨
I love the end. And as others have noted, it makes sense in context. Great reaction, though! worship
The Hip Hop Crowd loves "Ascensionism" on the new album. It's a RnB song with Rap and Autotune and then Metal in the end. Could be something for you.
For me it was a grower ;)
Would like to see a reaction on TOOL- SOBER LIVE PERFORMANCE . They are awesome.

the ending was best part of the song
I love the whole song. The end is a culmination of feelings and I couldn't live without that ending. I appreciative your opinion though.
You.. NEED to listen to Ascensionism
Facts!
It’s comin!
Yaaaaaassssss ASCENSIONISM is my favorite on this album

Haha not at all, it’s a favorite part for a lot of people!

I disagree, they’re so much more than being known for throwing abrupt heavy vibes in the middle of their beautiful masterpiece music. my other favourites are Ascensionism and Rain, looking forward to seeing your reaction to them/the rest of the album!
Acensionism is coming soon! I enjoyed that one
Are you completely relax when he reset his patient violence along both lines of a pathway higher? hahaha
I feel the same way, I'm so sad and it feels forced, not to say its bad! it just feels like it doesn't fit and if you do make that ver. I would love to know where to find it!
I cried when I watched this...
I feel like they kinda warn you it’s gonna get heavy when he says he is gonna bite back in ANGER but maybe I’m reading into it.
You missed the point sean!! Hahaha it's TAKE ME BACK TO EDEN!!! You and vessel where in eden until you woke up in hell!!🤣
Dammit! lol TAKE ME BACK THEN 😂
And I also laughed a little .. this was perfect
The song is strategical just like all the others, this is the summoning in reverse. But I agree try ASCENSIONISM.. doesn't have to be a video, if you just want the feels ELUCID has emotional value to me. But defo have a listen to the other songs some are on the softer side. X
Even tho you didn't like the end but it goes together when you listen to what the lyrics say at that part and how it goes in to the meaning the of the song and lyrics too
@Sean Staxx plz listen to The Apparition from this album, imo best song of the album.
Cheers 🤘
Bro just experienced the dream becoming a nightmare
Haha facts
Wait till you hear ASCENSIONISM!!!!!
Clicked so fast! 🙌
🖤
Yea at first I felt like this song is build around those different genre "bags" and goes back in that piano every time until the interrupt ending. And I did get spoiled that breakdown by some review before the album came out so I was waiting it whole song. That part sounds like it's some kind of fusion of Loathe and Lorna Shore, so they could make a feature for that on show or something. But yeah this album has 4 breakdowns out of 12 songs were Vessel screams and I think that is easily the weakest, just because it's so out of place compared to other half of the song.
Eyes closed driving🙈
The heavy part at the end is entirely intentional. It goes from pleading to be taken back to Eden, to DEMANDING to be taken back. Vessel doesn't do anything without absolute intention.
Definitely get not liking it, though.
Yes, now vessel is a rapper JAJAJAJ
Haha nice surprise!
@@SeanStaxxMusic right on! Always dig the honest criticism either way. That's what makes music such a unique, individual experience.
Ascensionism man!!!!!!
It’s comin! 👀
The heavy at the end served its purpose if it punched you like that lol.. It makes perfect sense in the concept of the entire album.. Still a great reaction though
After others have explained it, I understand why they did it. Still don’t like it in this song tho. Thank you 🙏
EUCLID.
