Wow cool review! I have the 1210GR and went up with my yamamoto headshell with the HS-6S. amazing headshell! Match with nagaoka mp200, funk firm apm mat and mnpctech feet. The 1200GR is amazing for the common people like me who don't have that kind of money ❤ cheers🎉
2:10 I've also owned multiple 1200s over the past 15 years and I own a 1200G for the last 6 years now, I always say: The original 1200s are built like tanks, but the 1200G is built like a tank destroyer!
I used to be in the camp that the Technics arm was poor but I've revised my opinion of it after some experimentation. I had an SME V and tried it on both my GR and Mk2, although there was some improvement in imaging and clarity it wasn't the leap I was expecting, at least on the GR. With the Mk2 there was a noticeable difference but I couldn't help feeling the SME's matter of fact sound didn't compliment a matter of fact sounding turntable. I had the GR arm rewired which I think narrowed the gap even further to the point I think it you'd be hard pressed to say the additional outlay for the SME was justified. I now think the stock arm is a decent performer once you address the internal wiring.
And now Technics is coming out with the SL-1300G, with features of the SL-1200G but without the DJ controls for $3,300. I think that I would have gone for this over my GR2 if it was available at the time since I don't really need the strobe and stuff.
Looking forward to the A/B test. I know "better" is probably subjective though, and wouldn't be surprised if there's differing opinion with the views of listeners. I have a couple of 1200mk2's, one is modded (not heavily) and the other completely standard. I've done a few A/B recordings myself and quite a lot of people prefer the standard one.
I can’t wait to see your opinions or even hands on experience with the newly announced Sl-1300g vs the 1200g since they now share the same platter, but the 1300g now has same newer type Sigma drive motor as the 1200gr2 and they took away the DJ controls. It looks like the sl100c on steroids.
Cool,, 👍😎👍 Im on my way to buy a CL-1500C with a DL-103r pickup. A half automatic spinner, with no extra bells and whistles,,💖 Cheers from Sweden,, 🍻🥰🇸🇪
Thanks :) I own the SL-100C, which is exactly the same turntable as the 1500C but without the internal phono preamp. It is a well-built turntable. For the price, it's an excellent choice. I love the looks too: classy 😎As for the sound, my forthcoming video is precisely a shootout between the SL-1210G and the SL-100C 😉
Hi Francisco I mounted the Kab fluid damper on my GR without success, I kept it for about a month, the fluid about halfway up the tank giving it time to adapt, but I removed it because it suppressed the higher frequencies darkening the sound, without the Kab I find the sound fresher and more dynamic, maybe I did something wrong?
@@AlexVinyl1974 The needle lands more gently on the groove, which is very welcome, especially at the lead-in groove. Sonically the benefits are subtle, but if you manage to fill in the receptacle in a reasonable manner, the sound becomes more focused and the resonances seems to vanish. But most of all, don't overfill the little vessel.
@HiFisquarepants I'm interested in the upcoming Blind Listening Test. 👍 But I also have a few questions: 1. What Phono Preamp are you using/will you use for the A/B test? 2. How will you capture/record the Audio from the Phono Preamp? Will you be using a USB Audio Recording Interface such as RME, Audient, Universal Audio Apollo, Focusrite Scarlett, MOTU, etc? I would highly recommend using a Tascam DA-3000 Mastering Grade Recorder. You can capture direct from the phono preamp outputs to DSD or in PCM up to 24b/192k. 3. Will you upload the Raw Lossless Files to a Cloud Storage/File Server such as "Google Drive" and provide a Download Link so that your viewers/listeners can compare the Lossless files without streaming them over UA-cam's Lossy compression codec, and use a PC music playback software such as Foobar2000 + their A/B/X COMPARATOR plugin for true randomized Double-Blind A/B/X test results? Cheers!
Thanks :) You've basically described my procedure. As for the recording device, I've been using the Tascam DA-3000 for 12 years! DSD 128 and PCM 192/24 samples will be available. My Audio Research LP1SE will serve as the phono preamp. Anyway, the entire chain will be published ;) Check out some of my past blind tests: ua-cam.com/play/PLvIQcbLR2hmEeR_tpZQ4w85NuFyoTYEQr.html
Dear Francisco, please Somebody Tell me how to record Video with Smartphone directly while i listen to Vinyl record in Same digital Sound quality? Which cables do i need? Audio Interface needed or Just a Recording App? Thanks in advance
i took to a friend store to see how better was the SL-1000G or R with it´s made for it nagaoka cartridge and stylus like in the 70´s, me and five other friends wanted to see how better it was from my SL-1000mkII but a laugh happened with diferent amplifiers and speakers all lp´s played didn´t had a chance to sound better in the new improved one but mine with it´s original cartridge and stylus that i still have 2 and they don´t say hours of use but if it starts to sound bad in the last tracks change it normally from 5 to 5 years, so if the new is a litle above 5.000€ i´ll ask for mine a 79 model that i could have bought a BMW 535i but instead i bought this turntable as i had several cars and as family car a 76 BMW 523i, but 15.000€ for the one who wants a real turntable, my two SL-1200MKII bought also in 79 in 2010 no one wanted them so i sold both with three sets of cartridges and stylus, professional ones for 500€, but not having auto-return it´s a problem as expensive stylus are one falls asleep and 2.000€ gone, always auto-return this of having at home professional turntables that even don´t sound as good as other superior technics models it´s a litle not thought about it, the SL-1310 before the SL-1200MKII had the litle light to see the grooves in dark enviroments and on/off button for the auto-return just check late 70´s technics catalogs don´t remenber which year as i started this in 1970 ,in 77 there was the 3100 that also didn´t had auto-return and sounds the same but can be found till 300€
Still it is very expensive. Instead go for an AT-LP140XP with a Dynavector 20X2 MC, and you’ll be better off by €1500 or €3000 from the 1200G. I have both the AT and the Technics….I know what I’m saying!
the 1200G is $7,200 in Australia (about $4,500 US)... a small 2nd car.. & its looks like cheap party equipment... don't get why anyone over 25years old would buy this, amazed that anyone under 25yo would have that kind of money for a turntable alone... without consideration of amp, speakers or even cartridge upgrade... i must be getting old :)
Great review and thanks for sharing! I look forward to the blind test!
I own a 1200GR and it has served me well, perhaps one day I will own a G.

Oh yes, the GR is a great deck 🤩
groovy, can't wait for comparison👍
Thanks! It's coming up soon 🙂

Pozdrowienia 🙂

I'm more than happy with my Denon DP-47F.
I have one but no vta adjustment is disqualifying defect. Not bad sounding but it’s a cheaply made unit compared to real Denons of the 70s/80s

mmm..I believe the trick is to not overfill the reservoir. I filled it halfway and it works for me 😋
@@HiFisquarepants Francisco What improvements do you feel? I tried not to fill it too much and the sound becomes the same as when the Kab is removed!

In my opinion, the 100C (1500C) is better than the AT. Yep, it's more expensive, but I think it's worth the extra investment.
Your reviews is useless should be reviewed as it is out the box and non with akormat Tonearm damper what does nothing sound wise .
