I had this idea Months ago, but couldnt figure a way to get it to work and now just randomly on a Monday night get this video in my recommended. Also Thanks alot and very well done vid.
It can be sent to a phone but there’s some extra software and steps that need to be taken. Boosted Media did a tutorial on how to do it quite a while ago. Just UA-cam search “Boosted Media Rear View Camera.”
Amazing, Great job and it’s not that expensive to do. I’m in the process or setting up my new triples and a wind kit ,as soon as I’m done this will be my next project. Thanks again.
You could get a SIMDID DH480 Pro, it's a USB monitor that registers as an external monitor. I currently do that for my 4th monitor as I use my native 4th monitor for HDMI capture. DH480 would also give you an additional set of status and message lights you could configure
I’m curious, did you watch this before or after the edit. I just made a change to it where the chroma key filter is no longer necessary with the v2 version of the dash so I removed this step from the video. Just want to make sure you follow the correct steps if you decide to tackle this.
@Mancave_Racecar I actually watched it yesterday afternoon and forgot to go on my phone and leave a comment for you. Saw your post today on sim racing and came to support you lol!! Thanks for the update. I'll have to check it out again. I definitely want to get this going for my "Mclaren cockpit"!
I was into all of this stuff. Dashboards etc. I had 5 dashes running through Simhub. LEDS. Then I got into VR. I realized I could never go back to flat screen not even my triples. Now I've discarded all of my dashboards because they are pretty much pointless in VR. You cant beat VR for immersion. It wasn't an easy decision after putting in all the work and money. But now I slip my headset on and off I go. I still use very tactile button boxes (switches, knobs, dials & buttons) that I can feel my way around while I am in VR but that's it. My wheels with built in screens are also pointless now. I call it progress.
VR is great man. Such a cool experience for sure. But, I actually prefer triples. One day, I think VR will get to the point where I prefer that but for now, I really enjoy triples with all the extra peripherals.
@@huludical1 I agree, VR can be a pain. I've created several multi action buttons on my stream deck . I've automated most functions I would've had to do manually through batch files. I switch my Pc on. Power my headset which connects automatically and push a single button. About 20 actions run off that single button. Then the game launches and I play. If I want to change my VR settings they have also been bound to buttons that run scripts. I even change in game graphics settings, controller settings all via batch files linked to single stream deck buttons. I never have to use a mouse and keyboard to do anything. I sit down push a couple of SD buttons, put my headset on and play. It took me ages to get every sim set up but it was totally worth it. My scripts can even change my Steam account depending on the game I'm launching. Even my CPU & GPU overlock when I launch the game and then return to normal clock speed once I exit the game. I had allot of fun figuring out ways to get this all done. But my aim was to be able to run all of my sims in many different configurations with all of my complicated hardware and software, including different VR settings, with as few actions required on my part. Most are just 3 actions. Power PC. Power VR headset. Push 1 SD button for the sim. And I'm off to the races. I had no end of frustration previously when I was required to do all of this manually. Nothing worse than being at the start line of a race and as the lights go green you realize Crewchief didn't load or you have the wrong controller profile or the wrong pixels per display setting for that car and track combination 🤣🤣🤣
You can, it takes some extra steps and software but there’s a way to do it. Search Boosted Media’s channel for his rear view camera tutorial. He does it with a phone.
So when you right click off on the edge and click “Fullscreen Projector Preview” then click on your monitor, nothing happens? Is your monitor set up as a 4th monitor already in windows?
@@Mancave_Racecar lol i think i need to do all again. I found the mistake why it didn't show on my 7" Monitor. I had to deactivate my monitor on simhib. But I'm trying to figure out how the overlay with relative and radar can be seen.
@@dennishausen4067 oh yeah, you do not want the monitor activated in SimHub. So once you deactivate it you should be able to follow the steps in this video to get it running. Just make sure the monitor shows up in windows as an active monitor.
@@Mancave_Racecar can you just tell me how you have done it with the Mustang? Unless I'm not choosing my steering wheel and hands to be visible on screen, they will be visible on any turn in that hdmi monitor
@@dennishausen4067 I did it the same way with the Mustang but I have the hands and wheel turned off. The process is exactly the same but you’ll have to turn off the wheel and hands if you don’t want them showing up on your external monitor.
@@simholic4504 you have to get the data from somewhere so if the car doesn’t have a rear view camera the virtual mirror is really your only other option unless you can see the overhead rear view mirror on screen. No performance hit at all. At least as far as I can tell. But that is a good point. I’m not sure why the original creator opted to do the green screen method.

Looks amazing buddy!! Keep up the nice vids! A question, like your safety nets as well, dyi project or did you buy it online ?

How big is the performance hit of chroma filtering? There is no need to be doing it, just make the dash background transparent. 😅
