I love this lens. No complaints about sharpness here, and the character is a bonus. Since I started getting vintage prime lenses, my RF 24-70 L "all-rounder" has been sitting on a shelf.
The FD series lenses (and many other vintage options) are just too good. For video especially I find myself practically gluing them to my video rigs haha
Vintage lenses are definitely full of character. They all seem to have a "look" about them that modern glass doesn't seem to be able to capture. Another I'd like to see/use is the Helios44 that everyone rants and raves about!
If the Pro mist is a little too pricey, check out the moment filters for half the price. Love my FD 50mm and 28mm F1.8, beautiful lenses. Only time I like using a really sharp lens if for photos I’m going to make large prints of otherwise I like a softer image
I love the 50 1.7m8 nFD. Great review. I love vintage lenses for my own stuff, but my commercial work is a tad more rigid style stuff, so then I use normal L-series. Busy putting together a video on my experience with the lens. Subd!
Yeah the FD's definitely have a flavor that doesn't work for commercial at times! L glass definitely gets the job done for most situations. Thanks for the support!🙏🏼
Nice video! Personally I don't like the Canon FD lenses for photography, they're a bit too warm for my liking, but they make excellent "cinematic" lenses for video
I've only used them for photography on my Canon A1 film body but I can see the characteristics not being for everyone if you're adapting for digital photo work. But yes, they are baby cinema lenses for video and thats why I love them😍
I recently picked this lens up WITH the same adapter... but I basically picked it up because i wanted the adapter. I recently bought a canon A-1 for below market value, and it came with the 35mm F2 SSC and the Canon fd 55mm 1.2 Aspherical.
All good! This one right here on eBay is what I have👇🏼 www.ebay.com/itm/284108677488?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=PXzAfl70TF2&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=kdlWytQ4TJ6&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
I've found myself that use vintage lens for video more and more now. I'm not a big fan of the 50mm, I guess because got the Sony 50mm when I 1st started and hated it 😂. I use a Canon fd 28mm f2.8, 35mm 2.8, 24mm f2.8 and now I'm going to start using 70-200 or 35-72mm 2.8 sigma vintage lens. Do you have problems with your aperture being stuck? My sigma 35-70mm vintage lens is stuck at 2.8. Which is but when I need to stop down, I'm out of luck. Dope video BTW!
I'd love to have a full set of the nFD lenses! They have so much character. I don't have any issues with my aperture but I'm pretty sure it's because my adapter has the little pin to actually be able to control it. Something you may wanna check out when adapting them! Thank you for the support🙏🏼
Great question! The bare minimum I would suggest would be the proper adapter for whatever camera you plan to use these with! For example: I adapt to my Lumix cams so I have an "FD to L Mount" in order for it to work. Other than that they are ready to go and one of my favorite options!
Great question! I'm pretty sure it's the 10mm version from this seller. Here's the actual item number: 284108677488 Hope that helps. Thanks for the support!🙏🏼
I got this lens at the Goodwill for $3.99, didn't realize this specific lens was attached until I started getting into filmmaking this year 😂. Are you still using the same adapter? Is there any risk of damaging your 6k pro?
Thats a bargain! haha I LOVE the FD lenses. I currently use the same L Mount adapter for the Lumix S1. I did purchase an adapter for the 6KP, however, it did not have a glass element inside of it so i'm unable to focus the lens. Going to replace it with the proper one.

i agree... there is something special about this lens. I have 2 😅
I have 2 as well! One stays on my A1 film camera and the other basically stays glued to my Lumix cameras! Haha

I'd love to get my hands on the Helios in the future! it has a crazy vibe with its swirly bokeh haha

I hope you enjoy them! I absolutely love my A1 and the adaptability of the FD lenses!

Can FD lenses be used for video as is, without being modded? Plan to focus manually by hand. Beginner here and tight on budget. Thanks.

@@GarrettWare of course, would be getting an adaptor, sorry didn't mention it. So would work. Thanks man!
Hey there, nice video! Can i ask what size is the focus gear ring? (it doesnt say in the ebay link)

@@GarrettWare no the thickness, i meant the diameter 62 or 66!

What does “mod” mean ? Sorry noobie
sorry! Haha it's just an abbreviation for modification👍🏼
