Thank you all for the great suggestions! I didn’t mean to sound like I’m sh*tting on Blake in this video so please be kind in the comments. Everyone in this house has made messes, myself included, I’ve just been actively working on mine and they haven’t. But learning new skills is hard and takes time. Blake is naturally messy and has had ADHD his whole life - that commonly goes hand in hand and I’m understanding of that. But a family conversation needs to be had about how cleaning up everyone else’s messes isn’t “mom’s job” especially since I’m currently overwhelmed with this work project. The decluttering is 100% me, though. I’ve brought all my reselling stuff into this house, among all the other things, and I’m ready to purge it and organize it. But I do need the family on board to not undo all my hard work the day after I do it. I will talk with them, although I’ve been beating my head against the wall on this issue with all of them for years. But hopefully once they see me taking care of my own mess, it will inspire them to keep things more tidy. Especially with the kids, when there is stuff everywhere it’s hard for them to even recognize what they need to do. If it’s overwhelming for an adult, it seems impossible for a kid. Blake is another story, but if he could just throw his trash away and get his dang dirty clothes into a hamper I’d have zero complaints. He does do a lot around here and feels like he is at his limit, too. We are both busy, stressed, and exhausted and I understand that. I will be buying a trash can for the bedroom (even though there is one in the bathroom 10 steps away, apparently that’s too far 😂) and discussing a hamper solution that works better for the way his brain works. Hopefully he can figure that out or express it somehow. We may need to trial an error some solutions. I am naturally an obsessively clean and organized person. It’s hard to imagine, I know. 😂I think I was a librarian in another life. We can go into what has changed and how I got here to this state some other time, but the biggest issue is having TOO MUCH STUFF and that’s why we’re starting with decluttering rather than deep cleaning or changing the habits of my family members. I appreciate all the concern for me and my wellbeing, all the tips, and just the overwhelming kindness and love you have shown me. It keeps me going! ❤
I have a washcloth in the bottom of the toothbrush drawer that makes it super easy to clean because I just wash it and put a new one in. Just an idea. :)
SHE'S BACK!!!!! The way I have been checking your channel, waiting for a new video like a STALKER. 🤭 Everything you've done has been a step in the right direction, don't stop! Keep it up!!!!
I commented that right at the beginning and I'm back to answer your question. 😊 Kitchen seems most important to me. The "functional" rooms are always important to sort first imo. So kitchen, bathrooms, walkways, etc, then the more off shoot spaces as I call them. Dining room, bedrooms, living room.
My thought….. first, thank for sharing!! Being vulnerable is HUGE! Second, Start with the area that will be noticed first. It will create order spillover into other areas. Main spaces, holidays coming, the kitchen/living/dining area. The banker boxes can go to the garage, any inventory that’s invading the home shared spaces should go to the garage.I’ve seen many resellers use their garages as inventory storage both before and after posting the items, with a photography area in the office. (And post the exercise equipment on hubby’s behalf since he simply hasn’t had time.) I also highly encourage the Dana K White methods-have a finite space for inventory and more can’t be added until there is space-this way you can keep your work and home/shared space separate and is fair for the rest of the family and their use of the home and your own self care sanity. You deserve a calm home as well and to keep business in its allotted space in your life. Oh, one other note…Maybe you could consider a trash can in the bed room so the trash is contained daily and doesn’t get mixed in with your regular belongings.
I have an ADHD person in my house too. He’s just such a pigpen. Our system (and my anxiety about shit all over the place) forces him to deal with his crap. It’s gotten better but it’s never been easy.
Through it all, dont let your journey overwhelm you! Strive for progress and not perfection. My house used to be JUST LIKE THIS or maybe worse. I started with the most noticeable areas and it gave me the momentum to keep going. Now, you wouldnt believe my house if you saw it. You got this mama!!
Yay! You're back!!! Love the new name too! Girl, I know you are dealing with challenges, but all the more reason to limit how much you actually own and keep it down to a manageable amount. I'd go hard decluttering toys and games for sure since the influx of new stuff for Christmas is going to put both categories over the top. And while I know you want a peaceful bedroom, I think that room is the hardest for you. Its upstairs, so crap never makes it back down. Plus, by the time you go up there you are tired, and that's when stuff just gets set down instead of put away. Instead of a full decluttering of your room, spend 15 mins a day trying to keep it from getting out of control. At least until you can dedicate time to it. Def get Blake a garbage can though and empty when its full. Keep bags in the can (under the current bag) so you don't have to go downstairs for a replacement bag. And if you want to decorate, focus on the living room / shared areas before you deal with the kitchen. The whole family will benefit that way. And the kitchen can be tackled a little at a time. With the vintage business being so busy, you'll make more progress in the house with 15 min room pick ups than 3 day overhauls. Oh, and I saw your comment to someone about wanting a big pile to show how much came out of the boys' room, but as a viewer if you show me pics of 3 piles taken over time, it registers the same as one big pile. You'll be able to say how many bags of stuff was the total. Don't let that hangup keep you from getting things out of the house now! 😘 Oh, and I have no issues with the cat food on the counter 😉
Super nice job getting rid of the storage and paying that bill!! Love your declutter videos! They are so relatable and makes me start doing the same. ❣
Hit up mini areas where you can see quick progress. Example: cardboard, out-grown games, coffee bar, moving things for better flow in pantry/cereal. Glad to see you back. I've referred to your 50% clothes reduction process multiple times!
This is exactly what I started today! I think before tackling whole “rooms” there’s lots of quick areas of progress to be made in the little problem areas. Like the dresser I want to trash by the front door! So quick to go through those drawers and basically dump everything and get it out of here.
@@Jamie_ChaoticAnd along these lines, maybe you could get a trash bag and just go around and collect trash from all rooms and nothing else. Like solely focus on removing trash from the house.
Great video Jamie love what you’ve been doing. I’m also organizing and donating the things I have. It’s easy to get sidetracked, but I love it when I can see progress. Great job 🐈⬛😀👍
I absolutely made it to the end of the video! I’m into the kitchen pantry declutter. That’s an area where I also have lots of clutter and we have a similar tall, deep pantry set up. Oh also, maybe use some of the banker boxes that you would donate and fill up with the things you are donating while you declutter. My biggest mental block when decluttering is the hurdle of ‘how’ to get it out of the house so having empty boxes to fill with the stuff would be helpful?! Also, love the channel name.
As a pro declutter coach ( Dana K White trained and certified) and adhd organizing expert, I think you need to start with visible areas. So start with your front hallway. What people see when they come in. Starting in hidden spaces won’t help with motivation. Using Dana’s five steps will get you there. Think too about like things together, and open easy storage.. so open bins are the best, make it as easy to put away as it is to put it down Think about point of performance , so store things near where you use them. A great example would be a coffee bar zone. Also use your containers as limits, even for inventory to sell to keep that manageable. Hope this helps!
In my mind I would have start with : -coffee bar (nice start of the day if you have fast access to your fav mugs ect) -corner with games (once done it's peace for a while) - enterence area (dresser, stairs)
At the end of the day when I’m really done w everyone n thing…I almost always do a 5 min tidy of kitchen bc I CANNOT stand waking up to a messy kitchen in the am! My point is maybe if each fam member had a 5 min tidy before bed it would help the mess & start new habits for everyone? ❤ WELCOME BACK!🥰🥰
I think something like that is a great idea, and I always think after the kids go to bed, “ah I should have made them pick up xyz before going to bed…” so it’s really not a habit I’ve attempted with them yet. I think once all of my clutter is out of here and it’s more obvious to them what needs to be done, those are skills we all need to work on. Also cleaning up messes as we go through our days and completely finishing a task when we start one… I call Blake “Mr. 75 Percent” because while he IS the one who does the dishes every night, he never does every single dish to leave me with a clean, empty sink in the morning. There is always about 25% left in there. Just one of his funny little neurospicy quirks that I don’t fully understand, he just can’t fully finish anything 😂 But the alternative is that I do the dishes myself and add one more thing to my task list, and I think I’ll actually go crazy if that happens! So 75% it is!
First time viewer. I’m 68 and just can’t get my house in order. I have physical limitations that limit the amount of time I can work. I have decluttered a lot in the past few months but can’t keep a good daily upkeep. Some due to physical and some due to depression. I think your channel will give me some inspiration. Cats! I have two. Cat litter is heavy! I have started ordering from Walmart so I don’t have to carry it. I don’t have carpet, on purpose, but do find places they have tried to hack up hairballs. Non cat people would never understand! I have a window perch for them that suctions to the window at the pad level and the bottom sits on the window sill. And now that I have Christmas decor out, and I have a lot because I love it, it does make cleaning harder. Glad I found your channel.
Thank you for being here and I hope it helps. I watch other decluttering videos myself for inspiration, too. It is motivating when you see others getting rid of stuff! I’m sorry about your physical limitations, and it’s completely understandable to not be able to do much at a time. The thing we don’t talk about a lot is how physically exhausting cleaning a house can be. In the next few days I’m going to be starting daily short videos for vlogmas where I clean up one small area in my house per day. Things that won’t take more than an hour, but usually take more like 15-30 mins. This method might be something you could try! I’ve started filming them already and I have to say I love it. I appreciate your kind words and thank you again for watching!
I'm glad to have seen your home with all the imperfectness and the not so imperfect... My house is similar, minus the business and cats, but with 4 instead of 2 kids, 3 of them are 16 and over, the youngest is 7. Our house is smaller and we only have 4 bedrooms. The 7 and 16 yo share a room. That's why we still have a lot of toys in our living room. (Dollhouse, play kitchen, doll pram, wooden building blocks, most of the youngest lego...) Our living room is the fullest and least organised. I'm trying, like really trying to make it better, but that involves donating most of my books and arts and crafts things and it evolves slowly... Also we tend to hoard a bit... My oldest 2 and I have been diagnosed with ADHD and ADD, one of them with autism as well. My husbands oldest also thinks she has something but hasn't been tested yet. I think my husband also has a tad bit of ADHD, autism and OCD. He can be really organised in a few areas, but lacks it in other areas... The youngest is our whirlwind rainbow baby and our daily sunshine as well as the one keeping us on our toes... Greetings from this chaotic mommy from The Netherlands. By the way, I watched till the end!
Thank you so much for your comment and for watching. With so many neurodivergent issues and age ranges in the house I can imagine there is a lot going on, but it sounds like a beautiful, loving family. The Netherlands is on my top 5 places I want to visit. I recently found out I had a Dutch great-grandfather and want to explore my roots! It looks like an absolutely beautiful part of the world. Thank you so much for being here and I’m sending my encouragement in your own decluttering journey!
I think I would like to see the various pockets of the lounge that need decluttering. So the board games for what will likely be a quick win. The coffee table. Kids table reset (that's not really a once and done as you know but it's good to keep on top of it, and then get that drawer unit decluttered and see if you can get that out of the house. At the moment it's an extra surface and empty surfaces attract clutter so if you can empty it out and remove it altogether that will help. It will also make the lounge feel less cramped. If it feels like too much in one go pick a drawer to do at a time. I would giveaway the empty banker boxes. If the aim is to declutter further then you shouldn't need them and they are just in the way at the moment. You have that lovely globe behind them and the rowing machine that would be nice to see properly as you walk into the room once those items have gone. A suggestion for the bed room is if Blake tends to dump his laundry in that spot then maybe put a small basket there for him to chuck the items into. That way they feel contained at least. Then couple that with my suggestion in my other comment about taking them out of the room as you leave the room to go downstairs. If you are worried about going up and down the stairs maybe get a large cloth tote or laundry basket to chuck any items into as you go downstairs, then take them to the right rooms and put the tote of the banister so you can use it to take anything back upstairs or just take it back up with you when you go back up there later in the day so it's ready for the next time. Love your glass vase collection btw.
Hi I would love to see you cleaning the boys room and the kitchen/ dining room - and be sure the NY Yankees hat goes in the donate bin. 😂 Glad your back- I enjoy your videos and your sense of humor
Glad to see you are back! If you ever move out of this house, never go to another one that has stairs. They seem to create a big obstacle when you are organizing things-there always seem to be piles of items to move up and down the stairs-not to mention that you fell because of them. Hope your knee gets better asap
100%!! I hate the stairs, all of us avoid going up or down them and the clutter piles up on them. It’s a total hazard! I said in our last apartment that I would never live in a place with stairs again but here we are. At least these have carpet so they aren’t as deadly as our last ones, but it’s still a reason we don’t put things away. And I managed to hurt myself anyway 😆 I truly hope if we can ever buy a home I can find one that is single story!
Hi, I just wanted to thank you for being so honest and authentic. Your video really inspired me to get up and get things done. I’m so excited for the coming content.😊 Greetings from Germany
So happy you're back! Definitely agree with putting a trash can in the bedroom. Make things as easy as possible for chaotic brains. I don't have a suggestion where to start decluttering but I do think it would be a good idea to divide your kitchen declutter into different sections to make it less overwhelming and as a way to track your progress. For the stuffed animals in the kids room maybe consider getting one of those bean bags that you can fill with them. That way you have storage that's useful too and it might be easier for the kids to put them away as well.
Love your videos and so glad to see you post. A suggestion, if you find that garbage collects in your room, then why not put a garbage bin in your room - that will shortcut the need to take the individual pieces of trash downstairs each time. If you’re making trash in that room, perhaps a trash can in the bedroom would be helpful 😊
Just keep plugging away and surviving the de-clutter...... that's what I'm doing too. Ongoing de-clutter for past year and a half, and I'm not done yet. Cheers!
I just watched a video you posted 9 months ago and the way your husband talks to you just melted my heart🥹. He was so happy and appreciateve for couple of more hangers and so proud because you did such a good job decluttering ( i think you gor rid of half clothes in one round). Hope you continue doing great job and maybe even buy a new dress to make a wish come true for your husband. Wish you all the things to be light and easy as you declutter the old stuff❤
@38:59 - Ditto here. I used to use other parent's behavior to figure out what was happening. We were late almost every day because there was still a line of parents dropping off their children. Little did I know that 7:30 the children were expected to be in the classroom in their seats instead of being dropped off at the door. But since I always saw other parents lined up dropping their children off I thought we must be on time...whack me on the head. We eventually had to do the whole tardiness routine, all because I some how missed that little detail (at 7:30 children are in their seats in the class). Ugh. Had to chime in with that found memory...
Oh my gosh 🤣 I remember when my oldest was in preschool, I never knew what was going on… I felt like everyone somehow “knew” things like to bring valentines for the whole class on Valentine’s Day, stuff like that. Turns out there was an email list that I never got put on and everyone was being informed things and I missed all the info 🤣 I didn’t figure it out until my second kid was going to preschool and got on the email list 💀 Parenting is a lot of trial and error that’s for sure 🤣
I feel like I am in the same boat like a hamster on a wheel loll We are both resellers my hubby is blind to organizing cleaning up donating but I have been slowly getting him on board with that part of the business before he wears me out. You have made good changes since last year so be proud. With Christmas coming I would work on areas you want to decorate take one job at a time. I got a few jobs done yesterday have pared down on the decorating. Have found a donation place that comes to pick up from me when I call them. That has been so helpful. Will be watching your progress it motivates me to keep going.
I am new and I made it to the end. I think you should start in the kitchen. If you can make the children independent so they don't bother you as often and also just easy everyday household running. I also suggest to look at Hoarder's heart, she made her hoarding recovery into weekly story and it worked wonders.
OMG! I’m so glad to see you again! You have a big job ahead of you. I would start in the kitchen first BUT put a lg wastebasket on Blake’s side of the bed and beg him to use it. Do a 10 min. clear-off of your bathroom counter. Also, make an agreement that when anybody goes downstairs, they should carry something down that needs to go down. For some reason that landing really bothers me..
I’m going to get a trash can for Blake’s side so we’ll see what happens. I’ve been begging, pleading, nagging him for literally years to put his dirty laundry in a dirty laundry bag and he just doesn’t do it. He throws it on the floor on top of the bag. I have no idea why, I’ll never understand exactly how his brain works or how to get him to care/remember. So I’m not optimistic about the trash can getting used, or the bag being emptied/replaced when it’s full (unless I do it of course). But we’ll try, maybe he’ll surprise me and prove me wrong. We do already have a “every time you go up or down the stairs, take something with you” rule, but obviously unless I’m standing next to the stairs like a troll under a bridge reminding everyone, it just doesn’t happen 😆 I’m welcome to any suggestions on how to get my family on board to help more. It’s not that I don’t try, the kids do have age appropriate chores and 50% of them do a good job but with my son who has ADHD it’s like pulling teeth. My husband also has uncontrolled ADHD and I suspect I do as well, which might be a big part of the issues in this house. But mostly I think no one else in the house cares what it looks like. They’re all happy as clams living in filth and I’m repulsed by it. And if it does bother them, it doesn’t bother them enough to do something about it. So I’m not sure if they’ll ever actually help. I’m trying to instead get rid of most everything so that it’s easier for me to just reset the house myself.
@@Jamie_Chaotic What about one of those hampers that's made for kids that's a basketball hoop and if he makes the shot it goes in the hamper??? I wonder if it just needs to be another style of hamper that works better for his brain. Maybe ask him what you could get him that would help him keep it tidy. Maybe a hamper in the bathroom makes more sense to him 🤷♀
Oh you poor dear. I didn’t realize the problems you were up against getting cooperation from your family. I think you’re right- the more you get rid of, the less there is to clean up. What you probably need is Family Counseling but I doubt your hubby would have the time or the inclination to go. You have my love, prayers & support from down here in Brenham Texas.❣️❤️❤️🙏
Thank you for sharing your home with us. I admire your determination and openness, allowing us to see the "before." There are some battles not worth engaging. Pick up your husband's clothes and put them in the hamper. Two seconds of your time isn't worth high blood pressure. It took me years to realize that my husband has many wonderful traits, but he wasn't ever going to put his socks in the hamper, lol. A garbage can on his side of the bed will be useful, even if you're throwing away his trash. Also, a trash can by his desk will be helpful, hopefully, lol. You have a wonderful family. Your idea of decluttering will help keep your home organized, I think. Our house is turned upside down. We brought my 93-year-old sister-in-law in to live with us without having time to prepare our home for the move. I'm overwhelmed. I like how you give yourself grace and accept that a job is good enough for now. Very healthy! Take care, Linda 🦋
@ oh Linda, I feel for you! Bringing someone into your home to live and also being a caretaker is extremely difficult. I hope it all settles soon and you can get your house back in order. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving 🦃
I would start with stairs as things/ boxes left there are safety hazard. It' quick win and you will notice you everytime when walkin up or down. Have you tried Dana K. White no mess declutter? She recomends starting in most visible area first.
Either fill the empty boxes with things to donate or immediately get rid of them. They take up a lot of room, also donate them bags of clothes from the boys room right away. Then move into the kitchen. Edit: Actually I would take 30 mins and fill a few boxes with things to donate first, then hit the donation center with the boys clothes etc and then tackle that kitchen. Glad you are back and looking forward to more videos.
This is going to sound so dumb… because it IS dumb… but I don’t want to donate the clothes until I’m done with their room so I can have a “look how many bags I’m donating from their room” shot for the video 🤣 if I wasn’t in the mindset of “everything is content!” I would have donated them months ago. Again, it’s very ridiculous I know. 😆
@@Jamie_Chaotic If that's the way you are feeling then I'd say do the boys room first, That way you can fill some banker boxes, take your photo then donate it all. Kind of also completes the upstairs as well. LOVE that you're back!
Good idea for “eventually” because once you see the garage you’ll laugh 🤣 it’s PACKED. We cleaned out one side but filled it with my flea market bins. Once we sort through the other side I should have lots of room though!
So sorry you are overwhelmed. Wish you were closer. I would love to come and help you barrel through the house. 😀💕 Would definitely like to see you clear the kitchen and adjoining family room so you can enjoy those spaces with your family.
So what I'm thinking is for you to write a list of every room and every area that you are not happy with and then look at the area that makes you the most frustrated and start there. Or if you want, you can put little pieces of paper of all the areas and just pick them out of a bowl. For me, I focused on what made me the most frustrated. And that just seemed to calm me.
I’m liking that paper in a bowl idea! Haha! That could be fun for a video too. I’m thinking of starting with all the small, quick problem areas like the dresser by the front door I want to empty out and move out of here, the landing at the top of the stairs, the games, etc. I could totally put those things into a bowl and draw them out one at a time. Thank you for that idea!!
@@Jamie_Chaotic April from The Space Maker Method likes quick wins and timers, so tops of dressers and cabinets, small storage things like that front door dresser, etc. Another good idea for any room is first the obvious trash/recycling. Then things that don't belong, but that will become easier as the volume decreases and more things have homes.
One way to help maintain is every time you go to leave a room have a look around the room before you leave and see if there's anything you can take with you. So when you get dressed in the morning and you're about to go downstairs for breakfast have a look around your bedroom and see if there's anything that belongs downstairs that you can take down with you when you go to have breakfast. Do the reverse when you are going upstairs. That way you are doing a lot of it naturally as you go instead of feeling like you have to do this mammoth clean up where you are going up and down the stairs a lot in one go.
I’m pretty good about doing that, at least half the time I’d say. That’s one of our “rules” around here - to always take something with you when you go up or down the stairs - but obviously no one else remembers to do it! 😂
I am so glad you are back! I have a few ideas that may help you? You could consider putting a trash can in your room for all of the c-pap garbage and empty it before trash day. Another idea is using those banker boxes for donations! The areas you’ve already decluttered and organized are working out great! The medicine cabinet is obviously working well and that will only take a few mins to tidy up again.
Go girl you can do it.... just one step at the time i am quietly cheering here Give yourself grace and celebrate the great win of posting this video i am soo proud of you and will definitely be watching all the progress X
I laughed when you talked about the pads and not needing them anymore. There probably will come a time these change to bladder control pads! Not for quite a while though.
Yeehaaa 😃 Im so dann looking forward to your decluttering, you can’t even imagine! Shove your mementos next to your nightstand maybe? Just out of sight is enough. I would love if you start with your clothes and get out all the donations! Next please take the empty boxes and put all the things in them and stack them in your office. Just get them from everywhere and stack them good to the ceiling, make a wall instead of hundreds of piles. Maybe get a board and write everyone one task of the day on it. Carry down two things each, put back ten books, find five cups and bring them to the kitchen, fill this box with dirty laundry, fold seven shirts.. gamify it, and do it all at the same time. Winner chooses the evenings movie or tomorrows dinner, where you go on the weekend or he can just make a wish. Either everyone gets the same task (already write it down in the morning so people are mentally prepared), or you draw them from a bowl or whatever. Let the kids think of tasks too, write them on paper and throw them in. Make it fun!
Such great suggestions! I am doing the fishbowl idea for tackling 1 small area per day for Vlogmas, but also getting the kids involved with gamifying it/making a competition out of it could be really fun. I love the idea of winning things that also involve family activities since I’ve been trying to add back in more game nights, movie nights, fun Christmasy activities, etc. Thanks for being here and all the great feedback!
@Jamie_Chaotic Sounds great! They'll be way more invested when it's their activity, something they chose. If they aren't good in coming up with own ideas you can announce the price before the start, and let them choose between two or three things. Also let them run down the stairs as often as possible, they are so young and can still do it (in opposite to us old ladies 😅). Maybe just let them take turns and wait at the end, so you can catch them if they hurry too much.. the downstairs sibling can meanwhile count very loud to twenty, and when times up the other one has to come back down with as many dirty clothes as he managed to find. So one is screaming and one is running, all that boys love 😃 And when they like to be on camera and want their own channel, even better! To he honest, I am very unlikely to do things if they are not fun. So I try to beat the clock, or get a goodie at the end, or have a friend as body double over.. helps! And a big yey for Vlogmas!! 💜
10 years ago every single room in my house looked like this, actually worse because there was just ADHD doom piles everywhere. I spent 1 day a week with an 18 month old at my feet and sorted, moved, organized all the junk. About 9 months later I was able to find 2 random things in the same day & I knew my effort had made a difference. Creating organized systems for my ND household has helped. It still takes a lot of work to maintain especially with what they bring home from school.
I don’t know exactly what an ADHD doom pile is, but it sounds like what I had all over my house in the beginning of this series. If you go back and watch the first few episodes I did, I bet you’ll find the doom piles 😂 a friend of mine who has adult ADHD recently told me she thinks I have it too and gave me all the reasons why… and I have to say I think she’s right. I have not been diagnosed and I’m only familiar with my son’s version of it, which is nothing like mine. Hence why I never suspected it in me. But I’m learning adult ADHD and also the way it manifests in women is a lot different than what my son has. But it’s definitely something that I’m learning about and looking into!
@@Jamie_Chaotic just binge watched your previous videos. Definitely my life story 10 years ago w a lifelong ADHD spouse, 2 boys and now perimenopause 😂🤣😂 creating the systems and training your crew will help immensely. I love watching the journey, I know it takes a lot of effort but please keep filming your progress!
You don’t need to declutter, you need a bigger house 😁! Seriously, loving this and happy to know I’m not alone. Ps. Have you considered doing the surprise Christmas boxes this year? I snagged one a few years back and I LOVED IT!
Hi!!! So good to see you over here 🩷 No kidding about the bigger house 🤣 although I would just fill that too! I’m not doing Christmas mystery boxes this year (sadly, I love making them!) because I didn’t really source for half the year. I was going through all these inventory boxes and am just about fresh out of Christmas littles if you can believe it! Hopefully by next year I’ll have a nice good Christmas hoard ready for mystery boxes again 😆
As for what Blake does and doesn’t do, every couple has to get their own balance. And for the things he hasn’t done after you have asked him, it’s normal to be frustrated but when this happened when I was married I could look around and see things I told myself to do that hasn’t been done!
Definitely kitchen. I have found Dana K White to be the most helpful for decluttering advice. No, decluttering never ends. Glad the knee wasn't broken!
Loved how Max was all over you at the end...what a rascally loverboy! If I was to choose your next home zone for a video it would be the upstairs landing & stairs...I fell down my stairs 5 years ago and still have mental trauma from breaking my foot 🤣. Scott was watching this video with me and when you talked about hitting your knee on the hard floor he was grimmacing & wincing in sympathy!!!
Thank you for the sympathy Scott!! And Heather thank you for watching, it’s so nice to see my reselling friends over here. I know all of you know the special challenges we face with all our vintage stuff everywhere! 😆 I’m sorry to hear you fell down the stairs and broke your foot!! It is totally traumatizing for sure! I’m lucky and surprised I didn’t break anything - all three times!
@@Jamie_Chaotic Solidarity sister...i have been working hard trying to get out from under the Christmas inventory that currently owns all the square footage of the floor in my den. And my office. And the kitchen table where my unfinished crafts live 🤣.
I feel like most important would be having a rule that prevents business things from spilling into the house in the future. They stay in their space in the garage or in the office. Otherwise the reselling things will always try to take the house over.
That has always been a rule but obviously I kept breaking it. 😆 Over this last year before I emptied out my storage unit back into the house I was doing a good job keeping everything in the office. I also stopped sourcing vintage once I emptied the storage unit so all I’m allowed to sell is the stuff I already have, which is helping tremendously. The obvious but not really talked about (yet) elephant in the room is waaaay too much purchasing has been going on, both for my business and in general.
I am so happy you are back. Missed you like crazy. I am just wanting to offer a suggestion . When things get chaotic, it's very hard to know where to start. I was thinking if you can do a honey do list. This gives him an idea of what to do first. And you can organize the list of tasks that are less than 15 minutes. That's what we do and it seems to really help.
That’s a very good suggestion. We used to have a family task app where u would put things on there I wanted him to do. I think it just became too overwhelming for him and he started ignoring it all and doing nothing so I gave up. I think we need to sit down and come up with a new list or app or plan but I can only present a task or two per day otherwise he shuts down with overwhelm.
I'm glad to see you back. I kept checking to see if you were still posting. I suggest you do the boy's room soon. Getting a big bin for toys to go in the closet will free up space in their room. It will make it easier for them to keep it clean themselves. Maybe you can get them to help declutter some toys. They will know which toys they don't play with anymore. Getting them to get the toys to donation centers in time for Christmas is a good goal for you all. ❤
Yes with Christmas coming, cutting down the toys is something we do every year. “Santa won’t bring you new things if he sees all these toys on floor and sees that you have a bunch you don’t even play with!” They’re really good about letting things go. The stuffed animals are the only thing my youngest son doesn’t want to let go of. He has a hard time letting any go, so we just need a better storage solution for now. He does actually play with them constantly so I’m ok with it. I know the stuffed animal phase doesn’t last forever and he really loves them.
@@sober1980 believe me when I say it drives me nuts too. I’m not a naturally messy or cluttered person so this amount of crap everywhere gives me wild anxiety.
If you still have troubles with ants getting into the house, I sprinkle a solid inch line of cinnamon at any doorway or area outside I know the ants could get in. It works amazing, I have zero ants in my house since I've started that.
I’ve had these hangers for close to 20 years and I love them! They’re from Ikea. I will say the only downside (for some people) is that they are thick and you can’t fit as many in your closet as the skinny velvet style hangers. For me that’s great since I’m trying to keep the amount of clothes I own to a minimum.
You crack me up!!!!! Great to see u back....do u tidy in increments of time to feel some satisfaction? It is hard when u have so much to to do. U pbly don't have an area for your office n products in the basement, do you....😢. Looking forward to seeing your progress....sorry but it stresses me out...lol 😊😊😊
Haha girl if I had a basement all my problems would be solved! 🤣 No basements in California, or very very rare anyway. We also don’t have an attic or any other storage except a 1-car garage which of course is stuffed full. This is technically an apartment - it’s very big for an apartment - but the large scale storage is nil.
Whats your favorite Del Taco order?. I am a combo burrito meal (large because duh) with extra cheese. I always ask for fresh fries beacuse their fries are not edible if they aren't hot.
We ask for “extra crispy” fries, they deep fry them a second time (so healthy) and it makes them hot and crunchy. So good! Lately I’ve been on a chicken soft taco kick but my go to has always been the 8 layer veggie burrito. 🌯 (of course a burrito lol) but really you could put anything from the menu in front of me and I’d love it.
Hear me out. If your house burns down tomorrow, would you miss that coffee table? If the answer is no, donate it. It's collecting stuff. Maybe set a rule for yourself, if something doesn't sell on FB marketplace within 3 days, you will donate it. I mean absolutely no disrespect. Here for your journey. My father's house looked similar to yours a few years ago. With the help of 6 adults and 3 kids we donated half of his stuff in just under 2 days 👀
I don’t think the issue with the coffee table is some sort of sentimental attachment, so no of course I wouldn’t miss it in a fire. I wouldn’t miss hardly anything in this house if it burned down, except a few sentimental things. But we also can’t really call this a home if all I have in the house are my grandma’s lamp, some afghans that she made, and no furniture 😆 some things are just functional and necessary pieces of furniture. We use the coffee table all the time for placing our drinks when we’re watching tv, we play games on it all the time, my husband fills it with nachos on game day 😆 I get your point of course but I’d rather have to clean it off every now and then than just have nothing. I wouldn’t care if it burned down but I would need to buy a new one when we got a new place to live haha
You could always set a limited number of snacks for the boys within reach each day. He might eat his brother's portion too but at least it's not a total free for all.
Hardwood would be slipperier with socks on, my kids would fall all the time if they were like that. But we’re renters and can’t change anything like that even if we wanted to. The handrail is awful, they’ve just repainted it a million times and now the paint is wearing off from us holding it while we go down. It’s so ugly.
Please tell us what the name of your vintage resale biz is? I think you would find support here if you did a live auction on here. Personally I like vintage Christmas. And I understand the tired feeling. I raised 3 children and I’m working nearly every day outside the home and my husband is about to retire in February and tells me he’s going to need me to get another job. Well I can just tell you that’s not going to happen. At my age my body isn’t being kind to me.
It is called Mid-Century Wasted and there’s a link to the channel in the description of this video. Maybe since husband is retiring, he can get a retirement job? Working two jobs is very hard on the body for sure!!
I’m not worried about what the husband wants me to do, i’am doing all a body can do. I clean houses for a living and I really enjoy helping people. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
@@sarahharper-fi2mx 😂😂 thank you!! I appreciate the support and encouragement!
(And post the exercise equipment on hubby’s behalf since he simply hasn’t had time.)
I also highly encourage the Dana K White methods-have a finite space for inventory and more can’t be added until there is space-this way you can keep your work and home/shared space separate and is fair for the rest of the family and their use of the home and your own self care sanity. You deserve a calm home as well and to keep business in its allotted space in your life.
Oh, one other note…Maybe you could consider a trash can in the bed room so the trash is contained daily and doesn’t get mixed in with your regular belongings.
Glad you're back! Thank you for being a normal human being, imperfection and all are greatly appreciated ❤
So glad your back!! Blake needs to get on board with cleaning/decluttering. Seems like a lot of the clutter revolves around his things.
I have an ADHD person in my house too. He’s just such a pigpen. Our system (and my anxiety about shit all over the place) forces him to deal with his crap. It’s gotten better but it’s never been easy.
What is your system? Need tips 😂@@JC-xl2bq
I'm so happy you're back! Your decluttering videos are very inspiring! Also, you're very funny, lol.
Yay! Thank you! 😊
Welcome Back! I'm quite impressed with all that you have accomplished during your hiatus. I'd definitely start with the Pantry.
I put a trashcan in my bedroom, now we have less mess on the carpet….. just empty the trash weekly ❤
I think “Sidetracked” might be my middle name! 😆
I love the painting on your bed.
So glad you're back . . . missed you! 💞 pantry/kitchen video would be great!
Hey Erin!! I’m happy to see you over here and I see you have a name change too! I hope all is well with you and your family, I miss seeing you!
I remember when the inventory was taking over the house. I'm so proud of you for selling all that and taking control of your home again!
In my mind I would have start with :
-coffee bar (nice start of the day if you have fast access to your fav mugs ect)
-corner with games (once done it's peace for a while)
- enterence area (dresser,stairs)
(Dollhouse, play kitchen, doll pram, wooden building blocks, most of the youngest lego...)
Our living room is the fullest and least organised.
Getting kitchen done pre Xmas would be good then office can be New Year Resolution
I just found you today and have enjoyed your video and you motivated me to get up and move some stuff thanks
Soooo glad you’re back-been waiting! 👍👏 YOU CAN DO THIS! 💪🏼
Glad your back- I enjoy your videos and your sense of humor
@@lindatuell164 🤣 I agree, my boys were the Yankees in little league otherwise I would have burned those hats! 🔥
Love this channel! All I can say is….same girl same. ❤
Oh I know you get it! We sure have special challenges in this line of work!
I'm glad you are back. Love the name change
You are a warrior. Keep going.
Extra Convenient trash cans are helpful! Whatever area is bugging you the most will have the most motivation for you.
Kitchen would be my vote. I decluttered mine a few months ago and it really helped. Still have other areas to work on though.
Hey! Good to see you! Welcome back! ❤😊
I would love to see you declutter the coffee bar, it looks like it would be a quick win, I am so happy your back 🩵🩵🩵
Just keep plugging away and surviving the de-clutter...... that's what I'm doing too. Ongoing de-clutter for past year and a half, and I'm not done yet. Cheers!
Kitchen 😁❤❤. Or, what ever you feel like 😂
I just watched a video you posted 9 months ago and the way your husband talks to you just melted my heart🥹.
I would LOVE to help with the kitchen when we come down before Christmas. Complete with buying you some cabinet organizers. ❤️ you.
Deal!
Yes!! The kitchen, please 😊
Your home is full of stuff, but more importantly it is filled with love.
Love your MCM furniture and lamps. That Brasilia collection is lovely.
You could use the empty boxes by filling them with stuff to donate.😊
@@stephnapper7341 good idea!
❤ thank you for a safe space
Thank you for being here!
I am new here just scribed , you can do’t all . You should make a collapse with the space maker , she does magic .
Living room.....living room.....living room. Then kitchen for sure...
We do already have a “every time you go up or down the stairs, take something with you” rule, but obviously unless I’m standing next to the stairs like a troll under a bridge reminding everyone, it just doesn’t happen 😆
I’m welcome to any suggestions on how to get my family on board to help more.
Glad you’re back. Omg you don’t have time for all this. Pick one area to work on at a time. ❤
I don’t have time for what? Making this video? 🤣
First time seeing you. Looking forward to watching your decluttering journey.
Yes! The kitchen 🙌
Put the memories in the garage❤😊
Good idea for “eventually” because once you see the garage you’ll laugh 🤣 it’s PACKED. We cleaned out one side but filled it with my flea market bins. Once we sort through the other side I should have lots of room though!
Still here. You remind me of my daughter and her full steam ahead life 🥰
So sorry you are overwhelmed. Wish you were closer. I would love to come and help you barrel through the house. 😀💕 Would definitely like to see you clear the kitchen and adjoining family room so you can enjoy those spaces with your family.
I literally have 12 small garbage pans around the house , so on garbage day I take one bag go around and empty in to that and toss😁
Go girl you can do it.... just one step at the time
i am quietly cheering here
Give yourself grace and
celebrate the great win of posting this video i am soo proud of you and will definitely be watching all the progress X
Glad to see you.
I laughed when you talked about the pads and not needing them anymore. There probably will come a time these change to bladder control pads! Not for quite a while though.
Oh the writing is on the wall with that too! After two pregnancies my bladder definitely doesn’t hold on tight like it used to 😆
I hope you pick the kitchen and that you start with the pantry!!! I almost bought a plane ticket to come help!!!! Welcome back!
Yeehaaa 😃
Im so dann looking forward to your decluttering, you can’t even imagine!
So one is screaming and one is running, all that boys love 😃
And when they like to be on camera and want their own channel, even better!
I did ruthlessly purge also. 2 cups, 2 bowls, 2 plates, 2 towels, 2 pillows, 2 sheets per person. 2 shoes, 10 shirts/pants/socks. Etc.
@ sounds like a plan! Wishes to you and your family for a wonderful Thanksgiving.
And the kitchen table where my unfinished crafts live 🤣.
really love your videos ☺️
Thank you so much!!
Oh my! That would drive me nuts!!! Wish I could help you!
Yayyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its good to keep the air-conditioner close because we always get 4th Summer in December when the Santa Ana winds arrive.
That’s the truth!!
Do you love those wooden hangers? I’ve been thinking about getting some.
Loved this video!😊 new subscriber
Thanks for subbing! I appreciate it!
@Jamie_Chaotic oops....forgot you're in Cali...my youngest lives near Salinas...good job so far...👍
I love and miss you so much!!!!
Former teacher here: You could donate the pads to a local middle school as well. They’re very much appreciated!
Good idea!
Yaaaaaaaay 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
New here….i have to ask….did you just move in? Or is this the norm?
I explained everything in the video and also have a whole series explaining what’s going on here.
Carpet on the stairs… it makes it more slippery I would remove it. The handrail doesn’t look too good either.
What?? Theres a sale today??
Kitchen or boys’ room!!! Then the office!
I'm a Professional Organizer. Should I come help ?
Packing = fun
Unpacking = not fun 😂
That’s the truth! 😂
