I’m a flight attendant so I probably travel more than most because it’s basically everyday. I also usually have a camera with me. Usually either a Ricoh griiiX HDF/X100/Leica Q2M/sony a6100. I just bring an extra battery or two and keep things minimal.
Uff-dah, I so feel for you guys. I'm 6'5" and easily have 20 years on you all, and seeing how uncomfortable you all were on the floor made my own knees, ankles, butt and lower back scream in pain. And you guys are hilarious when slightly sleep-deprived! Enjoyed the video.
Jordan, I traveled for work (throughout Canada) and learnt quickly that having my uniforms go missing was bad but not having clean socs and underwear was worse. So for carryon I carry at least one clean pair of underwear and socs, a t-shirt and my sleep shorts. It's not perfect but removes the stress of worrying that my checked luggage won't arrive at the destination with me. And as for cost, arrive in Churchill Manitoba without extra clothes!!! Lol.
In term of traveling, I've come to accept that i won't get every possible shots from the trip. I can shoot eveything with a 24-70 lens. If I see a scene that i know I need a longer FL, I would not shoot it and just enjoy the scene.
Always really enjoy the in person pods - obvs only feasible on trips, but they have great energy to them, and you can tell you're all having fun - except perhaps when getting dead legs from having to crouch in tiny rooms 😅
Having gone through the GAS stage of a new photographer I'm now working through the travel overpack stage. Last trip I took a Pelican case with multiple lenses, bodies, cables and batteries. I will say that I used them all. I like to take some 35mm film as well as digital - right there' that's two bodies and supporting lenses (I usually bring one wide and one tele for each). I then bring my Insta360 X3 for film and creative shots. Add a tripod, and the case is full. Destination is now influencing my packing... last trip was a three-week cruise to Europe, so I wanted film, digital photo and video. However, I went with one 50mm and one 28mm (one for each body) and made the choice of format based on scene. The 360 cam is fairly pocket. Next trip is a repeat to the Caribbean, so I'll probably drop to just one body and the 360 and call it a day. I've also stopped bringing tripods unless I know I'll get the time to use them (more exotic locations). I've learned that the best camera is the one you have with you. Even taking out just my canon with a prime 50mm, my creativity wasn't hurt. Sure, I missed out on some long shots and super wide's, but the photos were awesome.
With time I realized, that the most convenient option is 1-camera-1-lens. As Jordan said - I sacrifice aperture. My reason - I noticed that I do not need it. 1) Actually I DO want everything in focus, when visiting a far away, interesting place (most of my vacations are abroad); 2) I'm active during the day and during the night (when wide apertures are needed) I'm at the hotel sleeping after walking around all day. As a result, I either use my RX100 VII or my FF Sony with the Tamron 28-200. And I never bring both. I choose at home and take one of them.
I agree re: sacrificing light gathering for travel. Just got back from my honeymoon in Italy. For ten days I had my X-T50, the 16-50mm kit lens, and the 27mm f/2.8. I got some lovely night shots with the 27mm, and the kit lens was phenomenal for the daytime. I could have gotten some nice shots with my longer lenses, or had some fun with more primes, but at the end of the day I didn’t want camera gear to take over the trip. If I was traveling solo, or just for the purpose of photography, then I’d bring more. Also, I used the 3.5L Wotancraft Pilot. It was perfect, thank you for constantly recommending this brand, Chris!
If Sony Management got a group enema and updated the Sony RX10 and 100, the travel video and photo aspect would be a non issue given that there is probably also a smartphone in the mix. With detachable lens camera’s, self hatred is a damned if you do and damned if you don’t dance.
I am an enthusiast and I usually do hiking/backpacking when I travel therefore my go to setup with my Sony is the Tamron 28-200mm, Sony 20mm f1.8, Samyang 45mm f1.8 and now just added the Viltrox 28mm f4.5 (for discreet around town). For tripod, for ultralight setup if I just need something to prop my camera at a viewpoint is the Oben CTT-1000L Carbon Fiber or for a bit more stability, the Ulanzi Zero Y tripod.
I bought a 95mm circ. polarizer! With step-up rings for my other three lenses, one filter fits all! If I ever need the filter on my largest lens (Sigma 150-600mm Sport in E-mount) I will have it, and I don't need separate filters for every lens. Because of the latter benefit, the actual expense of the filter for the large lens is the difference between its cost and the cost of a polarizer for the next larger lens (82mm, the lens being a Sigma 24-70mm Art Gen II). So when the intent is to use the filter on multiple lenses, it works out to a pretty good deal. What's uneconomical is buying separate filters (of any type) for each lens in your battery.
Jordan - the standard breakfast is fresh steamed white rice (love the rice in Japan), miso soup, baked salmon, and some additional little dishes that add flavor (which I don’t remember the names) which are usually made of pickled cabbage, seaweed and fish. And of course a good Japanese tea. But to get a real taste of Japanese breakfast - got to go to an Onsen hotel and have a breakfast there!
Great advice on time zones. I used to travel from Ontario to Utah for work. I never adjusted my sleep I would just get up very early local time to go fly fishing and photo taking in the mountains before work
Gotta admit: I also learned to hate tri-pods, but thx to a previous review of Jordan I got the IFOOTAGE Cobra 3 mono-pod and I am loving it! If I wanna save weight: just use the bottom and top plate (not the long rod). If I wanna get serious: carry the whole thing, also not a big issue.
My first trip to Yellowstone, I took everything. I had one suitcase with nothing but two lenses. Since then, I've learned less is better. I've thought about just traveling with primes. But, zooms are just so versatile. I just returned from a trip to Utah and Colorado where I took two A7CR bodies, a 16-35 GM II, and a 70-200 G II. If I see a shot that requires a longer lens, I just don't shoot it. But, I do like tripods. My current travel tripod is a Gitzo 2545T. But, I just ordered an iFootage monopod which I'll be trying.
If you want traditional breakfast, its usually along the lines of Miso soup Small bowl of rice w/ cooked fish Toasted bread with natto / butter on it Pick one or multiple of these depending on how you are hungry. If you want common breakfast, just go buy a sandwich and a can of coffee at the combini :D
I do use the generative remove in my toy photography and it works really well with busy backgrounds but not as good with simple backgrounds like grid patterns for some reason.

For traveling I have a backpack where I bring a rf 24-105 f4, rf 70-200 f4, and an ef 50 f1.8. I also bring a mix incase I shoot any real video, which is very rare.
I have a full set of CASE magnetic filters for 95mm since two of my most used lenses are that big. I have a set of step down rings so that I can use those filters on 82, 77 and 72mm. I find that is the cheapest way for me to be able to have filters for almost every lens I use.
Using third party dual battery chargers for ages with great success. Never understood, while the first parties so much more. I get it with batteries, but with chargers.
How long will you be in Tokyo? I'm arriving there this weekend, and have been dealing with that *exact* question for this trip. It's led me to travel much lighter than I usually do on this trip! Anyway, if you are still there Saturday or later, and feel like meeting up (and maybe shooting) with another photographer, or grabbing some sushi, let me know. I've watched your reviews for years, and it would be fun to meet up. :)
Zooms are good for travel especially if you'll be doing mostly daytime landscape/cityscape style shots. My personal favourite is the Panaleica 12-60mm F2.8-4, great range and decent macro. For lowlight shots you could pick from the Panaleica 15mm/25mm or the Old 45mm F1.8, or bring all 3 as combined their smaller than a FF 28-70mm. I've also travelled with just a Ricoh GRIII and a Sony A7C with 85mm, that's also been a good experience
Jordan you can find CURRY AT ANY HOUR OF THE DAY in some "Japanese fast-food" places, like Matsuya. There's one by the river near the Kaminari gate. Near that, there's also another chain restaurant, CoCo Ichibanya, which specializes in curry. They'll have a ticket vending machine with English menu at the entrance (and online) so you'll be able to order easily. Get your ticket(s) give them to the waiter when he'll ask, and your food will arrive in a minute (or they'll call your number on a monitor, it depends)
LOL, OMDS should definitely release a camera named the PEN-IS. Great suggestion. They'd get the camera appearing in so many more Google searches with a name like that!

As a Canuck living in Japan, and on the topic of convenience store sandwiches, you need to get the egg sandiwich and buy the rectangular fried chicken thing (L chicken at Lawson, NaNa chicken at 7Eleven or Famichicken at Familay Mart), Ideally, cut the chiken in triangle shape since the sandwihes are already precut, then insert them into the middle...you'll thank me later.
As a basic level enthusiast using Lightroom, I prefer the simplicity of editing over classic, but classic has these data pay walls that stop me from using it anymore and only using classic for capacity. I wish they would allow interchangeability or just make one single program and not financially penalize those that want to you use Lightroom over Lightroom classic.

The best way to travel light is buy what you need in your destination town. I was in Toronto this weekend several provinces over from Edmonton (home base) with my Xt50 and 35 1.4 (fly light, right?)and found that the 35 was not cutting it for streetwork in the big smoke. Downtown camera had a cheap used 50-230 ii on the shelf. Problem solved. Not the sharpest or the brightest but a superzoom has its versatility charms.
Have some nigiri for me. Jordan, all my circular filters are 82mm. I have a 95-82 step-down ring for my longer lenses with 95mm filter threads. Works like a charm, no stickies.
I live overseas, so I travel enough that I try to keep my kit very minimal. I have an s5ii and 24-105 but thinking of grabbing a compact light prime. The 50mm 1.8 would be the natural choice but also looking at the sigma 65mm f2 To get something with good light gathering and a bit lighter when I need it.
For my trip to Iceland in 2020 I brought my Fuji X-T30 with the 10-24mm, the 18-55mm, the 55-200mm and a tripod as well. Since I frequently used all of the lenses and the tripod I'd say it was worth carrying all this weight but it sure was way to heavy for hiking long distances... For my trip to the Seychelles this year I cut the 10-24mm and the tripod but overall I might as well have left the camera at home because most of the time I took photos with my phone. But in hindsight this might be mostly because this time I was travelling with my wife an kid instead of travelling alone. If something like the Tamron 18-300mm would've existed back in 2020 (I think it was released in 2021) I might have considered only travelling with this one lens but on the other hand I really like some of my shots with the wider end of the 10-24mm... 🙈😂
My travel kit this summer = X100 VI Occasionally i wished I had a longer range (such as when I saw an Eagle) but my back was happy I only took the X100 VI My dad who travels on safari , used to take 2 camera (both Fuji), one with something like the 18-55 (or 18-135) and the other with the 100-400, Since buying a X-T5 and getting the Tamron 18-300mm... that is all he takes, knowing he can crop a little, image quality is not as good as the 100-400... but it is good enough considering the camera with the 18-300 ways less than just the 100-400 (he also take a small fast prime for when needed such as the 35mm F/1.4)
My standard travel kit is my Z6 (though if I went to Japan as I hope to one day I would want to take my Z8), 24-120, 14-30 and a fast prime (Z 50 1.8, though I intend to get the new 35 1.4 which may become my default travel prime). If I’m going somewhere Im going to want some reach I would take my F mount 70-300 G on FTZ - I really wish Nikon would do a Z version of that, the Tamron one doesn’t have VR and only 6.3 at the long which makes it not an option for me. All that goes in my backpack (with my iPad and other stuff) which is my hand luggage.
Jordan: I’m puzzled by your comment that photographers who do dedicated astrophotography say that 500 is outdated and they do 250. As an astrophotographer I haven’t seen this, but at face value it still seems confusing to me. The “500” isn’t a minimum but a maximum to prevent star trails. If it was “outdated” and a lower number is better, then that would mean that using 500 would give you star trails since the higher the number the longer the exposure and 250 would get you closer to no star trails. But 500 doesn’t give you star trails, so I’m not sure how 500 can be “outdated”. You can do 250 if you want, but you can easily go beyond 250 and not get star trails, so I don’t think 500 being “outdated” is accurate.
I wonder if this is because of the increase in resolution of digital cameras. If you increase the number of pixels on a sensor you are probably increasing the length of a star trail. Although it seems to me this would only affect pixel peeping.
I just went to Malta from the US West coast for a friend's wedding. I was agonizing over camera gear, do I bring film or digital or both, how many lenses do I need, do I need to rent or buy a lens that I don't already have? I had my heart set on getting a Sony 20-70 f4 and 70-200 f4 kit, but decided it would be financially ruinous after paying for airfare and lodging. So I stuck with my 35 and brought the 135 f2.8 minolta lens I use with my XG-1 with a simple E mount adapter, but decided against bringing the XG-1 and film. I'm sure I would have had a blast with the f4 zooms, but it was also great to just work with two focal lengths. If the wide shot wasn't working out, I could try focusing on a different subject with the tele. Or I could just move on, there was so much to see in too little time. I really loved the look of some of those 135 shots too, there is something about vintage glass. Anyways, if anybody else out there is stressing about an upcoming trip the way I was, my advice is don't worry. You don't need to rack up a huge credit card bill, just bring a lens or two, use what you have and enjoy the people and the scenery.
I was thinking If you're taking a photo at 1/40000, you're definitely using the electronic shutter... And 1/40000 is less than the minimum sensor readout time, so you're mainly doing it to adjust exposure rather than to freeze motion, because you're dealing with more rolling shutter issues unlike with the mechanical shutter. So by extension a freeze is better at 1/8000 with mechanical than at 1/40000. Does my logic make sense?

Perhaps a stupid question, but why didn't you move the camera to the right close the curtains and then give yourselves more room to sit comfortably? Or did the room lay out not allow for that? It feels like Chris is getting crushed against the wall. On a different note, I just looked up that trigger winder for the bessa, And you absolutely need to get that.
Travel camera - Sony HX99 but I’m considering getting a Tamron 18-300 to use in crop mode on my A7R2. Jordan should stick with what he wants to eat. Nothing wrong with mac & cheese.
Phones are fine… all you need travelling. I took one of my 3 good cameras to South Africa for my month there (Sept/Oct2024). Never used it. My phone was great. (Not really relevant but it’s a Google Pixel Pro 7 … )
I currently only own a Canon and a 50mm lens. I feel that I am missing a 100-400mm, a compact ultra wide zoom. For photo focused trips. Would also be nice to bring a second body. Changing lenses is a pain.
Sadly "bird photography" and "travelling light/compact" never fit in the same sentence. Even if I just bring the 400mm f4.5 and a TC, that's still a very large lens. Before I started photography, I was able to travel with just a personal item sized backpack (20-24L), no matter how long the trip was. Now, with camera gear, there's no way I can one-bag it, not even with a 35L bag... and I really wish I could, it's so freeing to just have that one backpack on your back and nothing else... I very often find myself wishing I didn't pick/enjoy the most expensive and most cumbersome type of photography; how easy it would be (in this sense, not creatively) to do landscape or street - get an A7CR, slap a 20-70 f4 on it and you're done; maybe also have a 35 or 24 f1.4 if you wanna do street at night - still super compact, fits in a pocket of plenty a bag.
@@ericaceous1652 I see. I've heard M4/3 are quite popular for wildlife shooting since you'll get deeper depth of field even at wider aperture so it's easier to focus even at faster shutter speeds, not to mention how light and compact the system is in general.

I tried an OM-1 with 300mm f4, but it's still a long lens (even though not as bulky) that I couldn't make work in just one bag; and I don't like the AF accuracy, the low resolution/cropabilty, the low light performance in a dark forest... And I shoot almost all my bird photos when traveling somewhere, either with that speciffic purpose in mind, or just incidentally, so I'd basically end up shooting everything on a system that performs worse for me.
@@houserhythm I was just wondering since the claim was _"bird photography" and "travelling light/compact"_ apparently don't fit in the same sentence, but from the sounds of it others could do it just fine using a Lumix or Oly system and achieve this goal.
So it's kind of funny Chris likes only (the Japanese version of) non Japanese food: gyouza and raamen (chinese), katsu-karee (european and indian), and shabu-shabu (Chinese again)
To talk about a comment Chris made about the size of the lens mount, doesn’t the size actually have some effect on the type of lenses a manufacturer can make? For example, Nikon f mount infamously has no f/1.2 lenses and e mount has yet to procure an 85 1.2, for what I can presume is solely a limitation of the size of the mount
Sorry to disagree with you on Dji: I think it would make a lot of sense if Dji would launch a camera system. They have the guts and the IQ to do some game-changing equipment for us photographers and videographers.
Yeah and Jared saying the should just call it a Hasselblad is dumb. Hasselblad is known specifically for high-end medium format cameras. If DJI would want to introduce a camera in a lower market segment, it wouldn't make sense to call it a Hasselblad.

DJI Pocket 3 has been amazing for travel.
Maybe the best episode so far. Incredible funny, the chemistry between you guys is perfect.

I do use the generative remove in my toy photography and it works really well with busy backgrounds but not as good with simple backgrounds like grid patterns for some reason.

For traveling I have a backpack where I bring a rf 24-105 f4, rf 70-200 f4, and an ef 50 f1.8. I also bring a mix incase I shoot any real video, which is very rare.

I have a full set of CASE magnetic filters for 95mm since two of my most used lenses are that big. I have a set of step down rings so that I can use those filters on 82, 77 and 72mm. I find that is the cheapest way for me to be able to have filters for almost every lens I use.
Using third party dual battery chargers for ages with great success. Never understood, while the first parties so much more. I get it with batteries, but with chargers.

How long will you be in Tokyo? I'm arriving there this weekend, and have been dealing with that *exact* question for this trip. It's led me to travel much lighter than I usually do on this trip! I've watched your reviews for years, and it would be fun to meet up. :)
OM-5 with, lumix 9mm, om 12-40 +40-150 f4 plus built in digital teleconverter and you have 18-600mm (not to mention handheld). What more do you need ?
Zooms are good for travel especially if you'll be doing mostly daytime landscape/cityscape style shots. My personal favourite is the Panaleica 12-60mm F2.8-4, great range and decent macro. For lowlight shots you could pick from the Panaleica 15mm/25mm or the Old 45mm F1.8, or bring all 3 as combined their smaller than a FF 28-70mm. I've also travelled with just a Ricoh GRIII and a Sony A7C with 85mm, that's also been a good experience
Jordan you can find CURRY AT ANY HOUR OF THE DAY in some "Japanese fast-food" places, like Matsuya. There's one by the river near the Kaminari gate. Near that, there's also another chain restaurant, CoCo Ichibanya, which specializes in curry. They'll have a ticket vending machine with English menu at the entrance (and online) so you'll be able to order easily. Get your ticket(s) give them to the waiter when he'll ask, and your food will arrive in a minute (or they'll call your number on a monitor, it depends)

As a Canuck living in Japan, and on the topic of convenience store sandwiches, you need to get the egg sandiwich and buy the rectangular fried chicken thing (L chicken at Lawson, NaNa chicken at 7Eleven or Famichicken at Familay Mart), Ideally, cut the chiken in triangle shape since the sandwihes are already precut, then insert them into the middle...you'll thank me later.
FamilyMart for both items, ideally. L-chiki and Nanachiki are always too greasy.
Fuji XT 5 (18-55 lens) and a Leica Dlux 7 is all that I carry. Covers 99% of what I shoot in a city.

As a basic level enthusiast using Lightroom, I prefer the simplicity of editing over classic, but classic has these data pay walls that stop me from using it anymore and only using classic for capacity.
I wish they would allow interchangeability or just make one single program and not financially penalize those that want to you use Lightroom over Lightroom classic.

The best way to travel light is buy what you need in your destination town. I was in Toronto this weekend several provinces over from Edmonton (home base) with my Xt50 and 35 1.4 (fly light, right?)and found that the 35 was not cutting it for streetwork in the big smoke. Downtown camera had a cheap used 50-230 ii on the shelf. Problem solved. Not the sharpest or the brightest but a superzoom has its versatility charms.
Have some nigiri for me. Jordan, all my circular filters are 82mm. I have a 95-82 step-down ring for my longer lenses with 95mm filter threads. Works like a charm, no stickies.

Limited 2 prime combo for me... voigtlander 28mm f2 ultron and the 90 2.8. Great combo. 3 primes add in the 21mm color skopar 3.5 😁
I live overseas, so I travel enough that I try to keep my kit very minimal. I have an s5ii and 24-105 but thinking of grabbing a compact light prime. The 50mm 1.8 would be the natural choice but also looking at the sigma 65mm f2 To get something with good light gathering and a bit lighter when I need it.
For my trip to Iceland in 2020 I brought my Fuji X-T30 with the 10-24mm, the 18-55mm, the 55-200mm and a tripod as well.
Since I frequently used all of the lenses and the tripod I'd say it was worth carrying all this weight but it sure was way to heavy for hiking long distances...
For my trip to the Seychelles this year I cut the 10-24mm and the tripod but overall I might as well have left the camera at home because most of the time I took photos with my phone.
But in hindsight this might be mostly because this time I was travelling with my wife an kid instead of travelling alone.
If something like the Tamron 18-300mm would've existed back in 2020 (I think it was released in 2021) I might have considered only travelling with this one lens but on the other hand I really like some of my shots with the wider end of the 10-24mm... 🙈😂
My travel kit this summer = X100 VI Occasionally i wished I had a longer range (such as when I saw an Eagle) but my back was happy I only took the X100 VI
My dad who travels on safari , used to take 2 camera (both Fuji), one with something like the 18-55 (or 18-135) and the other with the 100-400, Since buying a X-T5 and getting the Tamron 18-300mm... that is all he takes, knowing he can crop a little, image quality is not as good as the 100-400... but it is good enough considering the camera with the 18-300 ways less than just the 100-400 (he also take a small fast prime for when needed such as the 35mm F/1.4)
My standard travel kit is my Z6 (though if I went to Japan as I hope to one day I would want to take my Z8), 24-120, 14-30 and a fast prime (Z 50 1.8, though I intend to get the new 35 1.4 which may become my default travel prime). If I’m going somewhere Im going to want some reach I would take my F mount 70-300 G on FTZ - I really wish Nikon would do a Z version of that, the Tamron one doesn’t have VR and only 6.3 at the long which makes it not an option for me. All that goes in my backpack (with my iPad and other stuff) which is my hand luggage.

Jordan: I’m puzzled by your comment that photographers who do dedicated astrophotography say that 500 is outdated and they do 250. As an astrophotographer I haven’t seen this, but at face value it still seems confusing to me. The “500” isn’t a minimum but a maximum to prevent star trails. If it was “outdated” and a lower number is better, then that would mean that using 500 would give you star trails since the higher the number the longer the exposure and 250 would get you closer to no star trails. But 500 doesn’t give you star trails, so I’m not sure how 500 can be “outdated”. You can do 250 if you want, but you can easily go beyond 250 and not get star trails, so I don’t think 500 being “outdated” is accurate.
I wonder if this is because of the increase in resolution of digital cameras. If you increase the number of pixels on a sensor you are probably increasing the length of a star trail. Although it seems to me this would only affect pixel peeping.
I just went to Malta from the US West coast for a friend's wedding. I was agonizing over camera gear, do I bring film or digital or both, how many lenses do I need, do I need to rent or buy a lens that I don't already have? I had my heart set on getting a Sony 20-70 f4 and 70-200 f4 kit, but decided it would be financially ruinous after paying for airfare and lodging. So I stuck with my 35 and brought the 135 f2.8 minolta lens I use with my XG-1 with a simple E mount adapter, but decided against bringing the XG-1 and film. I'm sure I would have had a blast with the f4 zooms, but it was also great to just work with two focal lengths. If the wide shot wasn't working out, I could try focusing on a different subject with the tele. Or I could just move on, there was so much to see in too little time. I really loved the look of some of those 135 shots too, there is something about vintage glass. Anyways, if anybody else out there is stressing about an upcoming trip the way I was, my advice is don't worry. You don't need to rack up a huge credit card bill, just bring a lens or two, use what you have and enjoy the people and the scenery.
Traveling to Japan, you are close to a Yotobashi so no need to fret about needing a memory card or battery ;)

If you're taking a photo at 1/40000, you're definitely using the electronic shutter... And 1/40000 is less than the minimum sensor readout time, so you're mainly doing it to adjust exposure rather than to freeze motion, because you're dealing with more rolling shutter issues unlike with the mechanical shutter. So by extension a freeze is better at 1/8000 with mechanical than at 1/40000. Does my logic make sense?

Perhaps a stupid question, but why didn't you move the camera to the right close the curtains and then give yourselves more room to sit comfortably? Or did the room lay out not allow for that? It feels like Chris is getting crushed against the wall. On a different note, I just looked up that trigger winder for the bessa, And you absolutely need to get that.
Travel camera - Sony HX99 but I’m considering getting a Tamron 18-300 to use in crop mode on my A7R2. Jordan should stick with what he wants to eat. Nothing wrong with mac & cheese.

How to podcast as a photographer (and not hate your legs)
I currently only own a Canon and a 50mm lens. I feel that I am missing a 100-400mm, a compact ultra wide zoom. For photo focused trips. Would also be nice to bring a second body. Changing lenses is a pain.
You should have started with the split screens (punch ins) but then change to single screen.

Tamron needs to fix the tendency for their zoom lenses to lose the ability to auto focus when the zoom lens is at the widest millimeter setting.
Sadly "bird photography" and "travelling light/compact" never fit in the same sentence. Even if I just bring the 400mm f4.5 and a TC, that's still a very large lens.
Before I started photography, I was able to travel with just a personal item sized backpack (20-24L), no matter how long the trip was. Now, with camera gear, there's no way I can one-bag it, not even with a 35L bag... and I really wish I could, it's so freeing to just have that one backpack on your back and nothing else...
I very often find myself wishing I didn't pick/enjoy the most expensive and most cumbersome type of photography; how easy it would be (in this sense, not creatively) to do landscape or street - get an A7CR, slap a 20-70 f4 on it and you're done; maybe also have a 35 or 24 f1.4 if you wanna do street at night - still super compact, fits in a pocket of plenty a bag.

I've heard M4/3 are quite popular for wildlife shooting since you'll get deeper depth of field even at wider aperture so it's easier to focus even at faster shutter speeds, not to mention how light and compact the system is in general.
@@shira_yone no, Nikon Z. I tried an OM-1 with 300mm f4, but it's still a long lens (even though not as bulky) that I couldn't make work in just one bag; and I don't like the AF accuracy, the low resolution/cropabilty, the low light performance in a dark forest...
And I shoot almost all my bird photos when traveling somewhere, either with that speciffic purpose in mind, or just incidentally, so I'd basically end up shooting everything on a system that performs worse for me.
@@houserhythm I was just wondering since the claim was _"bird photography" and "travelling light/compact"_ apparently don't fit in the same sentence, but from the sounds of it others could do it just fine using a Lumix or Oly system and achieve this goal.

To talk about a comment Chris made about the size of the lens mount, doesn’t the size actually have some effect on the type of lenses a manufacturer can make? For example, Nikon f mount infamously has no f/1.2 lenses and e mount has yet to procure an 85 1.2, for what I can presume is solely a limitation of the size of the mount

Sorry to disagree with you on Dji: I think it would make a lot of sense if Dji would launch a camera system. They have the guts and the IQ to do some game-changing equipment for us photographers and videographers.
Yeah and Jared saying the should just call it a Hasselblad is dumb. Hasselblad is known specifically for high-end medium format cameras. If DJI would want to introduce a camera in a lower market segment, it wouldn't make sense to call it a Hasselblad.
