Honestly the one thing I never understood in the story in that "why didn't Thumbelina ever return to her mom or did the mom ever try and look for Thumbelina?". Just saying
I always thought Barbie's Fairytopia was closer to Thumbelina than the film they named the story after. Alina lives in a flower, rides bugs, and even gets wings at the end. Also, her name is Alina. Literally Thumbelina without the thumb.
But yeah I do agree with you about that. Not gonna lie though, my mind blown from shock after realizing this idea Fairytopia is not Barbie original story but reteling Thumbelina. Kinda like Frozen.
I’m excited you did Thumbelina next and that you put Don Bluth as #1 on your rankings because Jodi Benson voiced two Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale protagonists.
While Don Bluth's film wasn't all that, "Let Me Be Your Wings" is my favorite non-Disney love song, and Thumbelina is played by Ariel's voice actor, so I like her even more!
YES. The long hair that was on the merchandise and dvd cover only for it to be missing on Barbie’s Thumbelina in the movie used to bother me so much 🤣😭
I am so happy you covered Thumbelina! I think the versions of the story that are combined with the story of Tom Thumb are super interesting. On a different note, since it's December, will you please one day rank the animated versions of Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer? The Rankin Bass one is the most iconic, but there was also the Fleschier one before it, the Goodtimes one in the 90s, an obscure Montgonery Ward exclusive one called Rudolph's Lessons For Life, and a version of Rudolph is in The Secret World Of Santa Claus.
I'm kinda glad Disney never touched this fairytale (yet...) (and no, Don Bluth's version doesn't count), so it still holds the essence of a classical 19th century fairytale. Disney's effect on what fairytales used to be is so strong it's no wonder fans of the originals hate Disney for turning them into something different
Besides having Jodi Benson as Thumbelina, Don Bluth's version also had other great acting talent, including the dearly depart Gilbert Gottfried as the Beetle!
I am really happy to see that you ranked the Bluth Thumbelina 1st. I feel like people give this version of Thumbelina a bad rep, but I just find her so lovable. I think it's nice that they fully utilized Jodi's beautiful singing voice to the fullest since she sings a lot of songs. I always feel sad for her when she sings the Sun song about winter taking everything away from her. People complain that she's whiny... I don't know what people want from her, she is literally in a world so new to her she doesn't know that the seasons pass and the winter isn't forever. I love her and that movie and I don't know why anyone wouldn't.
Don Bluth's Thumbelina's color scheme, while very lovely and iconic, reminds me of George Jetson. The reddish hair and outfit consisting of white, green, and blue.
Most likely because of color theory. Many characters from different animated franchises have the same color palette to the point that people think one is the copy of the other, when there was never any intention to copy. It's just comes down to which colors combine pleasantly with others. The first example that comes to mind is orange and green: there are two animated characters that share that palette: Vicky (Fairly Oddparents) and Wendy (Gravity Falls), you can maybe stretch it a little and say that Frankie (Foster's Home for Imaginary friends) also has that palette, just that her hair is more red than orange. Because of this, many posts on the internet compare these three character's appearance, despite how they have different personalities and come from different franchises. I can name more examples, Anna (Frozen) also uses this color palette with her party gown and her common dress at the end of the first film. It's just that green and orange are complementary
disney should re-imagining Thumbelina 1994 in CGI animation with sabrina carpenter as the voice of thumbelina, Alex Aiono as the voice of prince cornelius, Daphne Rubin-Vega as Mrs toad, Lin Manuel miranda as Jacquimo, Blake Roman as Berkeley Beetle and Sarah Stiles as Mrs Fieldmouse✨🧚♀
I'm happy with creating new versions of Thumbelina. The original had way too many animals wanting to marry outside of their species for unspecified reasons.
@Kylesb true. And tbh, if there's one thing I like about Eah is the amount of thought that was put in each and every name. It's a lot better than Regal Academy. Because quite frankly that series some of the most atrocious name combinations I've ever seen in fairy tale media. The only names that I like and think had a little more thought into them are the sleeping beauty kids. Ambrosia and Adonis.
Small correction, little girl in Spanish is "niña". Nina actually comes from latin, also meaning little girl. The words look very similar, but the pronunciation is different :)

Yeah same I dont know why everyone hates Barbie Thumbelina, its a really funny movie too like when the twilerbees fight off the construction workers. Ppl rank it way too low, I think theres some Barbie movies way worse than Thumbelina...
I would love to see you do a comparison for animated nutcracker movies you could do for like the actual nutcracker character and maybe have a Clara/Marie character analysis because on that front they seem to exchange the name Clara and Marie a lot. It would be fun for Christmas.
I was confused with Golden Films so much. Edelweiss, yes, weird. The prince looks like a Russian cossack for some reason. Also correction, the GF version is supposed to be in the Netherlands, I feel the emphasis on the dams and tulips tells us this.
The reason disney doesnt promote thumbelina is because they dont own her. Thumbelina is property of Warner Brothers like looney tunes and Harry Potter. Also i think the song edelweiss was around long before sound of music as i was taught it as a campfire song...
Thumbelina is owned by 20th Century Fox, as is a lot of other Don Bluth projects. Disney does own the rights, but she’s not really a “Disney Princess” since they didn’t make her. For the 25th anniversary Anastasia had a few merchandises on the Disney Store website - so I believe that’s what he’s referring towards.
@@LaBellesGrace What actually happened was WB originally made it, but then Fox bought the rights to the movie soon after, thats why the Fox logo appears on the later VHS copy and DVD and cuts the WB logo.
So one question. In that version the both thumblina and tom thumb born as royalties they are siblings? Because after they marriage we kinda get a game of thrones situation 😂😂😂❤
It's fine that people like the Don Bluth version but I personally don't like it because of the animals like the frogs for example being racist depictions of Latino and Hispanic people and that for a lot of the movie no one listens to thumblina and she's heavily disrespected, even more than the original I might add, not even Jacquimo, who is supposed to be her friend, listens to her in the tunnel when she tells him to shut up!
Hey! So will I do Dorothy maybe…the issue is the script would take a really really long time and it’s already been done by another huge UA-camr. I was planning on doing a Glinda ranking but again I struggled with writing it
@kingdomorange2 first thank you for all your jobs. Your videos are so great. We know it's a long project and need long time and also some other youtubers done dorothy before. But i personally love your videos and they are very interesting to me. That's why i said that many times. Good luck we love your channel 🤩🤩💙💖

Honestly the one thing I never understood in the story in that "why didn't Thumbelina ever return to her mom or did the mom ever try and look for Thumbelina?". Just saying
I agree
i don't know.
Only a few versions show that she does return to her mother/family.
In the Bluth version she does. Her mother is at the wedding at the end.
Finally, someone that else points out the Tom Thumb/Thumbelina mix is just fanon.
I think Tom Thumb is the originator of the tiny human story as it came first, then Gulliver's Travels, then Thumbelina.
I always thought Barbie's Fairytopia was closer to Thumbelina than the film they named the story after. Alina lives in a flower, rides bugs, and even gets wings at the end. Also, her name is Alina. Literally Thumbelina without the thumb.
It's spell Elina, not Alina. Just letting you know.
But yeah I do agree with you about that. Not gonna lie though, my mind blown from shock after realizing this idea Fairytopia is not Barbie original story but reteling Thumbelina. Kinda like Frozen.

People forget that Thumbelina very recently came into existence, so her pessimism makes sense. She hasn't lived for 16 years, she only looks like it.
Bluth actually pronounced “blooth”, like “tooth”

For Nina Thumble, the reason for her first name is probably because "Nina" means "Little Girl" in Spanish.
