I’m not sure if this is exactly why, but I think the Snow Queen is the villain of Barbie in the Pink Shoes because the title is a nod to another Hans Christian Andersen story “the Red Shoes,” though those shoes are cursed by an Angel to make a vain girl dance for all of time. Giving this sanitized story a villain from another HCA fable makes sense to me, but it is definitely a seemingly random choice!
The Snow Queen is also a ballet! That's probably why she's the villain of The Pink Shoes. Personally, I'd have gone with Carabosse from Sleeping Beauty (otherwise the Rat King or Rothbart, but the Rat King was already used in Barbie in the Nutcracker and Rothbart in Swan Lake, so I get it)
I think that the Snow Queen was chosen over Carabosse because she is simply a fairy that cursed a baby while the Snow Queen is an evil ruler wich make her more imposant, they also maybe wanted to avoid making any Sleeping Beauty reference after that Disney forced them to concel the project of a Barbie Sleeping Beauty

Bruh, Barbie and the Pink Shoes is a love letter to the art of ballet as well as the old Barbie movies that were based on ballet. It's a multi-ballet crossover with all of the characters being from various shows like Swan Lake, Giselle, The Nutcracker and yes, The Snow Queen too. How does one watch this movie and not notice it's about the ballets rather than the exact original stories these ballets were based on? Heck, Barbie movies have *adapted* half of these ballets. That's like complaining about Loki being the villain of The Avengers because you don't know any Marvel comics and Loki wasn't using an alien army to conquer Earth in the original mythology.
I'm gladly agree with the Top 7 (even if I never watched the n°6 but I'm agree that her design is cool). 8:50 Soyuzmultfilm version is the one I watched as in my childhood. The animation is... very characteristic of Russian CGI animated movies with over-animated SFX like smoke or fire and characters who move much more than their face expressions. 14:55 The thing with Regal Academy is that the Snow Queen is supposed to be around the same age as the professors since they represent the 7 Major Fairytales Families... so how can we believe that Kira is her daughter around the same age as our protagonists who have granddaughters and grandsons of the other fairytales ?? Anyway, her presence as main villain for Season 2 was a good decision. 4:55 Despite this stupid arc of tie her shoes, Crystal Winter is a good character. And the movie is pretty solid. it's just that Ever After High franchise ending with this movie feels a bit flat. At least, it has given a redemption arc for both Daring and Faybel. I just wish that Darling and Apple could have handle the consequences of the kiss situation in Dragon Games. 3:27 Her presence into the movie is kinda strange because of course the Snow Queen is not a ballet. The Snow Queen from Happily Ever After is the best take on the character. Plus, she is voiced by Eartha Kitt, aka, the evil Yzma. You can’t go wrong with her.

Before they officially made EAH's Epic Winter, I named that background ice princess character "Winter Queen," the daughter of the Snow Queen and cousin of the Raven Queen. I couldn't remember if I imagined her as a Royal or a Rebel. Still, since they decided that Briar Beauty and Rosabella Beauty were cousins, I thought it would be cool if the Evil Queen and the Snow Queen were sisters, making Raven and Winter cousins attending the same school, too. I do like Epic Winter and how they incorporated the Evil Queen's glass shards into the story, and adding the Winter King instead was a unique idea. Still, I couldn't help but wonder how cool it would be if, after defeating the Evil Queen from Dragon Game, Raven now has to deal with a crazy aunt, the Snow Queen, who's bent on creating an eternal winter just to get her own daughter to be as cold-hearted as she is. Anyway, thanks for doing this episode! I agree with your top three choices. I love Frozen and Ever After High Epic Winter, and I thought that Russian Soyuzmultfilm's Snow Queen was pretty cool. I think that if the Snow Queen is the main antagonist of Barbie and the Pink Shoes it's because she has ice power, by frozing people she prevents them from being free and being their own person while the plot foccuse on the main character being able to be her own person. Personnally I have nothing against Crystal Winter but her special is really not great, it's simply a worse version of Way to Wonderland, in the two we have the story of a ruler who is under a kind of spell and separated from their child but we care less for Crystal than for Lizzy since we knew Lizzy for a long time before her special and we knew that she missed her mother, Lizzy's behavior make sense while when Crystal see her father becoming totally crazy she behave like if he simply said mean things to her... Way to Wonderland also show us the world of wonderland and we have funny moments, in Epic Winter we are technically introduced to the kingdoms of Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and Beast and Cinderella but we don't see any inhabitants so those kingdoms are not porperly explored, the characters had to solve puzzles to get the flowers but I find those moments boring while what happened in Wonderland was fun to watch, the villains of Epic Winter are not bad but when they tries to stop the heroes they always fail so it's hard to take them seriously while Jester had many victories, held some power in the School and is entertaining to watch, also Way to Wonderland advanced the main plot and we understood what the characters involved where doing here while in Epic Winter exept for Faybelle, Crystal, Rosabella and Daring the characters are simply here and could easily being remplaced, the sole plot advence is the romance between Daring and Rosabella (wich is quite good is a so minor part of this special) and maybe Faybelle if the show wasn't cancelled.

For the Barbie one - the red shoes story itself is very short and also the inspiration for the pink shoes. The only villain in the story is our rude main character and the shoes themselves. It’s also a bit of a more underground story, you wouldn’t mention it in the same breath as Hans Christian Anderson’s other works. So they probably added the snow queen for a recognizable villain made by Hans Christian Anderson.
Finnish live action the snow queen 1986 is one of my favorite ❄and I'm a little disappointed that the version no longer mentions Finland's own winter wonderland, Lapland
at least Disney tried to make a faithful adaptation of the snow queen, but this was the best they got and, in some ways, it has a unique way to tell the story for the audience I do love Elsa's dress from the first movie I used to want her exact dress to from the stores I could find close to it
my first movie version of the snow queen was Soyuzmultfilm´s movie version of the fairytale. I like it more than Disney´s version just because it is much more based on the original story.
I kinda love the Wizart films 😂. The first one is probably better in Russian, the English dub is god awful. The third one is my favorite though As for the explanation on how the snow queen returns, the snow queen is a kind of spirit that can posses people so the little girl wasn't the snow queen herself, just possessed by the spirit...if that makes sense. The second movie is interesting enough, but I think they are running out of ideas, a good portion of 4 is good but the ending was pretty bad. Idk if I even wanna watch the newest one. But if youre willing to give any others a shot, i recommend the 3rd, I think its creative enough but not too far from the world they set up. (The 2nd movie isnt really important to the 3rd.) Also the voice acting improves from the original film lol

Not animated, but there is a really good and close to the original live action version of the Snow Queen which go by the same name by Hallmark Entertainment (Shocker, I know). It was my introduction to this story and it is visually appealing.
Next time you should do Alice!! There are some other animated adaptations of Alice in wonderland and there’s even a new Disney junior show about Alice’s great grand daughter who runs a bakery in wonderland! :)

Ice Queen is from a completely unrelated property. *Ginorma* aka *The Ice Queen from Beyond the Fence* doesn't even properly qualify and she's more credible than her because she actually comes from a fairy tale related property.

For the Barbie one - the red shoes story itself is very short and also the inspiration for the pink shoes. The only villain in the story is our rude main character and the shoes themselves. It’s also a bit of a more underground story, you wouldn’t mention it in the same breath as Hans Christian Anderson’s other works. So they probably added the snow queen for a recognizable villain made by Hans Christian Anderson.
Finnish live action the snow queen 1986 is one of my favorite ❄and I'm a little disappointed that the version no longer mentions Finland's own winter wonderland, Lapland
at least Disney tried to make a faithful adaptation of the snow queen, but this was the best they got and, in some ways, it has a unique way to tell the story for the audience I do love Elsa's dress from the first movie I used to want her exact dress to from the stores I could find close to it

my first movie version of the snow queen was Soyuzmultfilm´s movie version of the fairytale. I like it more than Disney´s version just because it is much more based on the original story.

As for the explanation on how the snow queen returns, the snow queen is a kind of spirit that can posses people so the little girl wasn't the snow queen herself, just possessed by the spirit...if that makes sense.
The second movie is interesting enough, but I think they are running out of ideas, a good portion of 4 is good but the ending was pretty bad.
Idk if I even wanna watch the newest one.
But if youre willing to give any others a shot, i recommend the 3rd, I think its creative enough but not too far from the world they set up. (The 2nd movie isnt really important to the 3rd.) Also the voice acting improves from the original film lol

They both talk about love and the importance of family.Also if, you think about it in some adaptations of the snow queen.The snow queen and the summer witch are sisters so maybe Disney combined the stories and yeah Frozen was made.❤️❄️

I think princess kaguya from the sailor moon movie could have gone on here as well. Although i could also say the same thing about Queen nehelania from the sailor moon anime could fit on both the evil queen/ evil fairy from snow white and sleeping beauty fairytale.
Definitely think Disney and EAH had the best versions (and I love the mirror's tie-ins to Snow White).

* I found out this Wizart's Snow Queen in my country, Malaysia our television once had a movie channel that shows non-Hollywood films (especially focus on Europe's films) & I accidentally watch The Snow Queen 2 back in 2015, a year after it released & found its was dark especially on the 2nd & 3rd act . its the 1st film that actually like a spinoff to focus on other one side character. Also Bella Throne voiced as Gerda in English dub & made a song soundtrack called "Diamond" & Isabelle Fuhrman as pirate girl, Alfida .. Then I decided to watch the 1st film & other sequels years later..
