Back Alley study in Colour Pencils

  • This is a continuation of my studies of the back alley I visited few weeks ago. I want to create different ways of expressing what I see on-location. For this sketch, it goes beyond using colour pencils. I wanted to explore lines, edges and contours with textures from repetition of lines. In the background you may hear traffic noise, shouting from workers cutting down trees and the podcast story from Meditative stories.
Sketching is ultimately finding solace in the midst of the ordinary noises and not running away from it.

Very nice demonstration @paulwangsg ! Sketching is also accepting our surrounding as is and being part of it by connecting with it. It brings us to the Present instantly.

Every time i see your work & read your reflections about sketching, drawing, painting or even the way you see the art (and maybe therefore life), I really enjoy it and found it very honest and inspiring. Thanks a lot!!!

This was fantastic demo of way using watercolor pencils. I guess you had jar of water in front of you, and occasionally you dipped the tip of the pencils into water, and that gave that interesting randomness to your drawing I love it.
