GOOD MORNING (DeConstructed) is finally complete. Ended a little crazy and weird but super fun adventure. So many discoveries and also many bad decisions too.

GOOD MORNING DeConstructed!
Переглядів 937Місяць тому
GOOD MORNING DeConstructed!! Creative workout with lots of breaking and rebuilding. I wasn’t sure if this crazy adventure will crash or take flight but I was certainly having fun all morning. This 2nd version is an abstraction exercise without creating an exact replica but rather extract the essence from the first artwork. Happy to hear your critic and comments. #watercolor #watercolorpainting ...

Colourful Monday
Переглядів 986Рік тому
Kicking off my new week with a bit of playful exploration. I enjoy deconstructing my art and explore new possibilities especially when I need a boost. Here I am looking for new combination of marks and colours. Lots of new shapes are generated too. Have an inspired Monday too! #artoftheday #sketching #drawing #watercolormixing #watercolor_inspiration #watercolourart #danielsmith

I decided to spilt the process into 3 parts. 1) Drawing & Creative travels 2) Breaking, Bending & Building 3) Defining & Refining the story Hope you will enjoy my fun messy process! #watercolours #watercolor #danielsmith #drawing #sketch...

My little fast and fun sketch of a durian stall in my neighbourhood. It is the durian season again and this year the harvest is bountiful. Prices have been greatly reduced because of export issues. We fondly call the durian, king of the fruit kingdom. You will be rewarded with sweet creamy flesh once get past the thorny outer shell!! This is a short visual summary of my recent 3 weeks trip to UK. First trip in 2.5years since Covid hit so I am really grateful for the time in London, Manchester and Oxford. Main reason for this trip is to teach 2 rounds of Discovery Workshops in Oxford. I managed to also meet and teach a Sketching Dangerously workshop in Manchester before heading down to Oxford. I met so many wonderful sketche...
Sketching with my new brass nib and ink from Kakimori

Playing with my new brass nib and pigment ink from @kakimori shop. The nib gets smoother and better with frequent use. You can get thick and thin lines just by changing the angle of the dip pen. The ink is also flows really well and waterproof when dry. The lines will not smudge even when you add watercolour washes. You can click on their website for more information. kakimori.com/en #sketchboo...

IIn less than 3 weeks I will be jumping on a plane and heading to UK. Super excited to be finally teaching workshops in Oxford and Manchester after the cancellation in 2020. First trip out in 2 years!! I am both elated and nervous to see the world after the pandemic. So here is a little preparation sketch of Turf Tavern to get myself ready for the workshops. I still have a few spots open if you...

I first visited beautiful Hoi An in 2016 and fell in love with this ancient town instantly. Every corner you turn you see something picturesque and totally sketchable. In 2019 I returned to Hoi An and led an art retreat with Anna from @annasartfoodculture . She is an amazing host/guide and she really opened my eyes to the food and people of Vietnam. So this sketch is my way of paying homage and...

Question: once you've cut up the original painting to start into this exercise: do you refer to either an image of it as it was, an image of the original setting, or your memory? Or only imagination? I am glad to have learned to slow down videos just now. After watching sped-up painting demos, I have a tendency to rush my own decision making. I am in love with all your still-life paintings! I need to go back to review them...slowly!

Hi Paul, your style is amazing! This is my favorite style ever, and I am trying to learn it one day. Paul, I have a question: how are you dealing with the comments behind your back that this Is how 3 years old child can draw, or this is NO PROFESSIONAL SKILLS at all, or something like this? These comments hurt me personally so badly, and I would like to know how are you dealing with them especially when they are coming from your loved once? Thank you!

Who made the original, and who makes it now? Without this information, it’s impossible to distinguish genuine from counterfeit. This is nothing but an advertisement for your own social media, and someone else’s potentially fraudulent resale.

The final result is very ...busy. It has way too many details. Up to the 11:40 minute of the video the sketch was balanced, the free style drawing with the touches of colour, but when you started adding every single detail and colour of the ground floor of the building the sketch became over bloated in its details. The line variation of the free style drawing got lost under loads of paint. Why bother to make so expressive drawing lines if you end up hiding them under all this amount of paint? I love btw your drawing style. It has so much flow and expressiveness. Don't hide it under paint. Less is more.
