LG SN11RG Soundbar Subwoofer Not Working \ Issue and PCB Replacement - Repair Guide

- I wanted to share this video as I know hundreds of other folks are experiencing issues with their LG SN11RG Sound Bar Subwoofer. I believe LG manufactured a defective product and should make this right for customers. The replacement part was $72 and can be purchased at directly from LG.

Many folks our just outside of the warrant period and LG's customer service has been attrocious based on my experience. I got impatient with trying to get LG to repair it and fixed the issue quickly myself. This is a very simple procedure to replace the part and requires no soldering - just unscrewing the back of the Subwoofer, removing the back panel, removing the ribbon cables and additional connectors, installing the new PCB board, reconnecting the connectors, and finally placing the back panel back on the unit and screwing it in. All you need is a Phillips head screwdriver and the LG part and your $1,200 investment will be back up and running in not time. I hope this was helpful to someone out there and hopefully you can get back to enjoying your Subwoofer ASAP.
Thank you for this. After a couple years of intermittent connectivity issues my sub died. Paid LG about $100 for the PCB, but they sent it overnight and I replaced it easily and am back up and running.
This video solved my LG sound bar problem! Thank you for posting and your clear instructions. LG should pay you for not only your troubles but for helping customers find a solution. LG should own up to this and offer these PCB replacements at no cost given this is clearly a product defect.
This was great. I am one of us with a SPN8-Y that bricked after a year. Ordered the part off the link provided and had it in about 4 days. Philip's head screwdriver, 15 minutes later I am back in the game with the proper thumping.
My REPLACEMENT SPN8-W that I got from ebay last year just died. Using this board to fix my original subwoofer will make it my 3rd subwoofer for this soundbar
Thank you for posting! I had the same progressive symptoms on my SN11RG subwoofer. Total was $107 out the door from lgparts for the PCB, and I had the board in about 5 days. Very simple fix and it has been working perfect since.
Make sure to insulate and/or ground yourself before handling the new board to avoid static discharge that could damage it. This can be done by wearing insulated boots, nitrile gloves, or touching something grounded in your house.
Based on the comments it seems swapping out the EEPROM rather than the full PCB may also resolve the problem.
Just to say: had SN7Y here. About 2 years in, subwoofer died. Light was either solid red or blinking green, would not connect. Bought the spare part from tbis vid, swapped the PCB out. Power back on, connected straight away and works like a charm. 10/10, great video, thanks!

I just had the same issue and found this video on a SN9GY Sub. Same exact issue as observed here. I bought the board and replaced it. Sound is back and linking is no longer an issue. Bought my board from LG as it was the lowest priced one. Very simple change. I could have sent it back but it was not worth the cost or risk of damage vs just fixing it. The board came in one day.
Make sure when you pull the back you have a short speaker wire that needs removed before the back can be removed. That was the only thing missing from the video.
The board is just stuck to some foam and it comes off easily.
To relink turn it on and unplug the bar and plug it in and they will link.
Now will this one last more than a year and 3 months.

Hey Sherry, I have the LG sn9yg as well. Can't get the light on my sub to come on and just before it went out it wouldn't link with the soundbar. What was the cost of the new board? Did you order it over the phone or online? Part number? I appreciate any information you can help me with.
Ordered the part from LG, got it in less than a week, replaced in under 15 minutes, and now it works perfectly. LG wanted me to package up the soundbar and subwoofer then send it to them at my expense for the opportunity to spend $150 for them to repair and send back to me at my expense. Would have been out something like $300+ with shipping charges to then be without the soundbar for at least 6 weeks. Thanks for the video. Super helpful and saved me a bunch of time and money.

Definitely defective. The same happened to me. It's a few days passed the warranty so LG said I'm on my own. I did exactly what you said and it's fixed! Thank you for this!
I got them to pay for shipping and repair .3 months out of warranty . Said you made a defective product from the start. Said it was one time courtesy repair.

I bought this soundbar when it just came out and paid almost $1900 and since the subwoofer stop connecting right after when warranty got expired and LG was not helpful at all. After watching your video I was still nervous but bought the part and took 20 minutes super easy and subwoofer start working again. Thanks a lot brother for this video

Hi I have the spn8-w sound bar and subwoofer and I had the same issue. It’s the same PCB as this one. I followed the instructions replacing it and my subwoofer is working fine now. Mine was also just out of warranty, so had to pay for the replacement PCB.

I didn't get the update failed message, or any message once I'd replaced the circuit board. The sub woofer just connected very quickly and worked fine.

THANK YOU for posting this. This helped me fix the subwoofer that came with my SN9YG. It was really upsetting when LG basically told me to get bent when I asked for help when the subwoofer stopped working just outside the warranty period.
I want to give this guy a Medal of Honor. I asked about a similar issue a couple of weeks ago here. I know he couldn’t answer because my situation was a bit different. My subwoofer would still light the green light. But it was dead. I bought the piece. And it worked. Thank you so much. And fuck LG
Hey JJ - thank you for the kind comments. Happy I could help folks out.... I was in the same position and was so utterly pissed at LG. Once I found the solution I couldn't help but provide a video. The fix is a lot less intimidating than people might expect it to be. It literally took me 5 minutes to swap out the PCB. LG stands for Lifes Good - its unfortunate, but they made my life bad for a while. If you can please sub to the channel - it would be much appreciated brother.

I too replaced the PCB for SPN5B-W. Yet when I powered on the wireless subwoofer after replacing the PCB, the green light slowly flashes and then remains green solid without a successful pairing. I tried all of the troubleshooting recommended in the soundbar manual with no luck. I was overly excited after discovering this video, watching this video, ordering the PCB, and waiting with anticipatory glee at the prospect of resolving the pairing issue. Alas, I have not been successful. I feel defeated although now much more knowledgeable about circuit boards. Thank you.

@@dmitrybondarchuk5916 hey, so I have the same sound bar as you. The question is when I power my subwoofer, I get a solid green led light right away, without any flashing green or red light. There is no sound coming out of subwoofer. Do you think my PCB is defected?

I have a LG SN8YG soundbar and it came with the same subwoofer. I was able to fix it following your video, thank you so much! You did a great job going over things here. I will reiterate the ribbon connector is tough to remove, there is no release tab, you need to pull it out carefully but with force.
Glad to know this will work on the SN8YG as well. Mine is JUST out of warranty and LG support couldn't help resolve my issue or even find a repair outlet I could send it to! The part is out of stock (of course) but I I'll keep hoping for a restock. Very disappointing for a ~$1000 product. I agree with

Too many people have experienced the same issue with this defective PCB that it seems LG intended for this to occur. LG should be required to place an expiration date on their products since their failure following normal use can be reasonably estimated. I wouldn’t complain if they were offering free replacements, but to charge for parts, repairs and shipping to rectify flaws known prior to sales is criminal!

Thanks for the vid. Like many others, I'm here to gnash teeth and grumble about LG. Turned on my sn5y this morning and didn't take long to figure out the sub was dead after 25 months. 1 Month almost to the day out of warranty. Have to try to hunt for an Aussie supplier.
This is THE perfect video solution to this problem. Look no further. I did it myself & I’m not even good at repairing electronics. I either break something or my static destroys the part I’m handling. Remember to discharge static buildup before handling the part. You’ll need a Phillips screwdriver and a pry tool (I used a butter knife) for the process.
Don’t forget the last screw in the middle of the old part in the subwoofer. Lol
If you live in Canada and you’re close to a border crossing, buy it from the link posted and ship it to a “border boxes” location for pickup. Buying & shipping the part in Canada is way more expensive ($120-150 CAD in the US vs $ $320-350 CAD in Canada). I’d say double-check which one works for you best.

Nice. I did the stupid thing and sent my unit into a repair centre to be charged £168.00. Useful video and trully...LG screwing its own devices and customers with OTA updates.
I had connection issues, but after a recent update it works fine for me, hope its going to last for a while 😬.

Try doing a reset on the soundbar. If the sub is blinking green then the sub is working and searching for a pair. Sounds like your issue is with the soundbar and not the sub.
I feel like I have tried doing a reset.... in many different ways. Maybe I've been doing it wrong. Can you please explain it to me? It's a fast blinking green light.
Also, both rear speakers pair without issue.

Well... Actually.. I have the SN7Y bar. I've tried and failed at finding the part number. Happen to know number for mine? Spn5b-w is model on sub.
My sub just went out like a week ago. I bought open box and have had it for about 6 months. Never had issues until now. When it went out I chalked it up to possible over use or something from the original owner. I noticed I could hear a capacitor whine when I’d disconnect power. Hadn’t thought a firmware update would cause this but I guess it could possibly change voltage regulation and inferior components could give. Thanks for the video. Really helps.
Are you sure it was a capacitor whine and not a coil squeal? I'm asking because I have the same issue where the subwoofer stopped working and I hear a whining sound when I unplug it, but I can't quite figure out where it's coming from and visually everything looks fine. I don't want to spend $100 on a whole new board if I could just replace one component, but I'm having trouble location which component specifically is the culprit.
@@mrgallbladder I ended just getting the new board. Works great again. I'm not super knowledgeable on what the noise was. Just went with what Google said it might be. But with my limited knowledge, buying the board was worth it.
I also get the whine when unplugging. That's IF it powers up.
So far…so good. I got it all apart and my new Board from LG is being delivered tomorrow 🤞
Further to my post…the new board from LG showed ($90 with tax ) and it installed in 10 minutes counting screwing everything back in and ITS GREAT AGAIN!

Replaced the PCB to a SN6Y but i was unable to pair back to sound-bar. There is a fast green light back of sub woofer, hours and following every recommendation . Given up however I will post this and give it one more chance in case there is a way to pair.

Did you succeeded with pairing the « new » sub with audio bar? I have the same issue. I replaced the motherboard, the power is back on with the sub, but the audio bar and the sub don’t pair… what should I do ?
@@Lataupe11 Try turning tv, phone, anything with BT off, leave soundbar on.
The item on the board you identify is a common mode choke, part of the power supply filtering to prevent interference with other devices. The two devices are basically the same, just physically different arrangement, one a ring core, the other a rectangular core. Very unlikely that is the source of the fault and the change of type makes no difference to reliability. My board has a fault in the low voltage power supplies.

My subwoofer on the LG SN8YG stopped connecting a few months back and I could not figure out why. I tried all the reconnect methods but it wouldn't happen. I just ordered a new PCB (which matches this model as well) and am hoping that fixes the issue. So far I wonder if my switch from Samsung to LG was a bad idea.

For anyone wondering. It works on the lg 2.1 sl5y sub too. Mine was powering on but it will not sync and go red. If you hit the button it will flash green and stay like that forever. Went ahead and ordered the board. Change it on the subwoofer. Power on and instant sync.
Great video..I had woofer problems but I fixed then the problem was that the light (not blink anymore and woofer doesn't work) that was just when unplugged from the wall and when plug it again dint work don't know why the woofer cannot be unplugged if you no want to let it plug it. Should I change the pcb or the module??
So so greatful of you uploading this. If i have to watch another pairing video I'll scream. I have the SN7Y system (UK) And the sub gave up about a week ago. I've installed old fireware then manully updated it via memory stick. Today I made some progress and could see from the Lg app the sub was linking shortly but then disconnecting after a few seconds. Still no sound. So I think I'm done. The best thing is I was looking to go for the R11 next bust as I can clearly see the subs are identical, I thunk I'll shell out a bit more and go for something more credible like Sonos or maybe even Sony. Thanks again, wish I'd of seen this last week. Wasted hours already. SO FRUSTRATING!!!
Can you share any link or info about updating the firmware on the soundbar and by extension the wireless subwoofer? Correct me if I do not understand. I would update the firmware via the USB port on the back of the soundbar which would wirelessly also update the sound woofer? Thank you for any input.
@@dmitrybondarchuk5916 Hi Dimtry, I found the instructions and a link for the firmware on this thread somewhere. Just make sure your memory stick is empty, and drop the file into the root folder on the stick (basically the main window which opens when you double click the drive on a computer) transfer the file over, turn off the soundbar, plug in your USB, turn the bar on and it will do it itself. Regarding the sub, I don't think it holds firmware. And if it does, and the bar won't link to the sub, the bar couldn't update the sub anyway. No inputs on the Sub at all except for power. Lots of people having success with replacing the pcb in the sub. It didn't work for me so I sold it all for 50 sterling pound. Then I spent out on a bose setup, also having issues with that. It's just been sent back to them for repair. Typical.

Thanks for posting. LG has the worst customer service department on the planet. We lost our wireless sub when we moved and since then weve had trouble finding the replacement model number (Sub) for our LG GX soundbar. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks !

I don't think it's a firmware update, as my LG SN6Y don't have any updates available and the subwoofer died anyway (1 week after expiring warranty). The pcb is the same as yours (the old one).

I too have this exact issue with the LG soundbar model # SN6Y and active wireless subwoofer model # SPN5B-W . I swapped the PCB in the woofer and was not able to sync. Anyone have suggestions. Hope springs eternal.
@@dmitrybondarchuk5916 turns out it was actually a software issue. I went to the authorized LG repair store and they updated the software. At first they flashed the wrong version, but they maneged to get it right later. I still don't understand how is it possible to be a software issue, because my subwoofer wouldn't turn on, let alone sync with the soundbar.
Yeap mine wireless sub when out too!! Is the pcb universal? Or there is a pcb for each specific model?
Seems like a simple fix, unfortunately checking the part number vs my model number SN7R, the website cannot find the model number of my soundbar so I cannot confirm if it’s the right part. There is no model number on the subwoofer.

How did you get the backing off on the subwoofer? I took out all the screws but for some dumb reason that only LG knows, it's still clipped into the back somehow.
It takes some force Josh. I had the same issue as well - there is some sort of adhesive that they put on it and it requires more force than you would expect to detach it. I thought I was going to break mine, but it popped off and was totally fine afterwards.

I have a SN7Y and the subwoofer will not connect to the soundbar in just a little over 2 yrs. When you opened the subwoofer, is that the only board? Or is there a separate Bluetooth or mainboard? Thanks
Ok. I can’t believe I just lived through this today. I have the same SN11RG system. With the rear speakers. My subwoofer seems to be working. It has the green light steady. But in the LG sound bar app says the subwoofer is not connected. And the subwoofer itself does not make any sound. But the green light at the back is on. Is this happening to everyone? I’m asking so I can calmly purchase the piece. And thank you man
Same exact thing happened to me. Thought it was strange, so I unplugged it and plugged it back in. Then the light wouldn’t come on at all. Just ordered the PCB board, should have it in a couple of days.

Side note, the part your referring to as a, capacitor. Is actually known as an inductor. The capacitors on this PCB can be recognized by the tall cylinder shape they have.
Does sub still disconnect randomly after this fix... My sub works but the disconnection issue is just getting worse!

Same issue here. I will purchase the part from Lg for $80 but is this the best place to purchase the part and how do you know if you are getting the up graded model Pcb Assembly with the better coil?

Just received mine today changed it unfortunately not working, mine is LG SN6Y(E4). Plus now I get LG SJ4Y(64) appearing on Bluetooth devices any recommendations ? Did I order the correct one
I was told by LG you would have to replace sound bar board also with same chip to me able to work. Replaced mine( same model) have no sound from sub now.
do you think would this work for a LG SPH5B-W subwoofer?
Hey so mine is a different model but it's not connecting to the soundbar, I've done the wireless reset and nothing. It just keeps blinking green, could this be a pcb problem or the wireless module chip malfunction?
Blinking green is in Pairing mode.. Turn off Bluetooth to phone and anything else. leave soundbar on

I have the same issue now with the Subwoofer not pairing with the bar and I have quotation of plus 200$ for the parts and guess what they will receive the parts from overseas and I have to wait for more than 1 month

Mine went out a month ago and have been dicking with LG support and I’m not going to box up the whole system and send back to them. I wasted 70 bucks on a SPY8 model sub and it won’t pair with the bar. Searched REDDIT and found this post and just ordered the part. Will update you with the results.
Question. If it works could I buy another r board and install it in the other sub I got? Can you pair two subs to the SN11RG bar?
I actually don't know if you can or not - but you definitely can order two boards and get them back up and running. I would really be curious if you are able to pair both simultaneously. Let us know what happens.

Hi Norman, there are several other issues that plague the SN11RG. The largest being difficulty in hearing dialogue on Atmos encoded content. You got a great deal on it and it’s still a decent system, but if you have the money I would wait on the new model as it appears all of these are dying after a year or so of usage.
