Refreshing My Power Steering | 1969 Mustang

- The power steering on my 1969 Mustang Mach 1 needs some work. In this video, I'm going to take out the power steering pump, fix a leak, remove the power steering piston/ram and replace it with a new one then button up a few small items.

This is one of those projects that falls under what you were saying about taking twice as long as you think it does. Hopefully your weather clears up so you can get this car out a test the new parts. :)
It's finally warming up and this project definitely took a lot longer than I expected. I think I worked on it over three weekends waiting for parts!

i actually upgraded to the borgeson power steering pump when i dropped the 351W. Seems to be a good unit but i certainly need to look at the ram on mine

I ditched the power steering on my 70. I was constantly chasing leaks. I hope this works out better for you.
Ah really. I’m hoping I have them solved. I moved the car for the first time this year and so far so good. Only the normal leaks 😂
@@SmackeysGarage I don't have a big block either so the wheel is a bit easier to turn. :)
What was the easiest way to get the van seated back on? Is the cam flange flush with the bottom of the pump where the bracket mounts?
Are you talking about the can? It should be flush to the back where that gasket is. Best way to get the can back on the pump I've found is to oil up the o-ring and twist as you are moving it on. If it doesn't go on all the way, I've found a rubber mallet helps.
It did do a auto correct. Can. I did have it all oiled. I made a bracket to attach a plat to the mounting bolts and another piece of steel to hold in a Vice. My can is up about 1/8” from being on square.
