  • I'm installing the TCP Total Control Products Adjustable Export Brace on my 1969 Mustang. It was a real easy install other than some changes I had to make to my car to make it work. There were changes required to my PCV system and I had to go back to running an original style system. I also had to reroute some wires and heater hoses to make everything fit correctly.

    Nice piece! Look's cleaner than factory and don't use as much space! Great installation!👍

    I had the same issue with my 69 coupe I just jacked each side of the car up to line up the brace and I was able to install it. All ima say is that it was a pain😢. I still enjoy learning from you!!

      Glad to hear that worked for you! I tried that and wasn’t able to make it work. I left it overnight with a jack stand in the center. Never moved enough.

    The new traditional export brace I bought fit in nicely. I guess my 67 held up over the years. One tip I saw on installing these is to jack up at the crossbar. It might align the shock towers during installation.

      That’s a good tip. I tried that on mine and couldn’t get it far enough.

    I really like the look of the TCP brace especially with their integral Monte Carlo bar added. I almost went this route but got a Mike Maier one piece shock tower brace ( export brace and Monte Carlo bar all welded together as one piece). It forced me to bend the body into the correct position. My brace requires full removal to get the distributor out but I’m happy with it otherwise. I still look at the TCP brace and love how the pieces can easily be removed without much trouble.

      Yea that’s what I’m thinking about the Monte Carlo bar. It may be worth changing from the one I have now over to that bar. I know i am going to run into some fit issues in one of my next videos when I go to install Qa1 coilovers on the car so I’m waiting for that. I may end up remaking the aluminum shock tower mounts thinner and in steel but we shall see. I do like the idea of a one piece brace if you’re tracking the car more often. The rigidity must be nice!

    On my 73, I went with stock. I think it is ugly but I am trying to stay true to the restoration. I sure do feel what you mean by, it is the start of the season and I don't want to bring the car down for a few months. That is not the point of enjoying the car! You made the right decision. P.S. Taking the dash out! My worse nightmare!!! LOL

      I hear you. If I had a lot more original parts I would have stayed more true to the restoration as well. Maybe one day when I get the car back lined up correctly I can put the original bracket back in. lol on taking the dash out. I feel like I've done it so many times now I can have it done in like 10-15 minutes... Not sure that is a good thing though!

    It's one of the things that drives me crazy is having to modify or fix 10 other items to make the one you are putting in, work

    • @SmackeysGarage
      @SmackeysGarage  3 місяці тому +1

      I know right! I couldn’t believe I had to take out the dash to install the export bar… lol

      @@SmackeysGarage not sure I would've been willing to do that much work for it. Lol
