2 of 2 - Mercedes S-Class W220 boot does not open fully

- This video is about an issue where the boot does not open fully and stops half way. This video is useful if you have powered boot open and close and not just soft close. The car in the video is a S500 W220. Please watch both parts to understand why I have changed the gas struts and how the solution worked in the end. I am a Mercedes owner and enthusiast and not a full time mechanic. I hope you find this video useful. If there are any mistakes or suggestions, please include them in the comments.

Thank you for dronng on for 7 minutes on everything that does not work
WOW!!!! this video was HELPFUL 100%. I was wondering why my trunk wouldn't open all the way, I honestly thought it was something with the pump in the trunk. Thank you so much man!!!!! FLORIDA USA
Great video, I had the same issue and just went down to the garage and fixed it thanks to your explications. Thanks!
You the best! Got an 02 CL500 today boot only opened halfway. Now it's opening fully! Thank you ever so much!
Thank You Waqas for this video. I have S600 but the trunk is same. your videos are all very helpful.
Thank you! I have a 2002 CL500 with a trunk opening half way. I replaced both gas struts and topped off the hydraulic fluid prior to finding you video. Your button instructions have it opening fully. I wish I'd found the videos earlier, but suppose it would need struts and fluid eventually anyhow.
This is great information, very detailed and concise. Thank you so much... Greetings from Florida
Great and informative video, thanks for sharing (from a Brit with a S500 in California)
One of the best I have seen, well done!
Thank you very much I have a CL600 Bi-Turbo with the same problem. After watching your video I was able to fix it. Thank you.
You are welcome. I am glad the information was useful.

Thanks, very helpful video, worked on my w220 s500 , year 2003
Thank you very helpful!
Hi. Very helpful, thank you.
Great video thank you so much !!
Thank you very much.
Thank you Very well explained.
Ross Bennett you are welcome.
Followed your guidance and did the reset. Added fluid (synthetic hydraulic) and it worked fine a few times, then completely stopped! Wouldn't even kick open slightly. Frustrating. System seems overly complicated and could have been designed less so.
Hi, your video's are very informative. Thank you for all the help. On a 2002 S600 the trunk is not programming. The trunk boot hydraulic pump does not get any power. Can you give me any help with getting it to work. Thanks and leave info on this forum.
Hello. a very useful video. I have absolutely similar problem. either opened or not, or to half. looked at the level of the liquid in the pump, it is necessary to add. how to do it and what the liquid is used? thank you very much !!!

Hi, you are welcome. The fluid used is hydraulic fluid. If
you ask your local auto shop, they will be able to guide you. To add the fluid,
simply unscrew the housing metal strip, which kind of clamps the plastic case to
the metal.
I suggest you put the unit on a level surface and if the fluid
level is just above the middle, then don’t replace the fluid. Also check to see
if you hear the pump turning to push the fluid and to build pressure.
If the fluid is present, then follow the procedure I have
used in the video. I tried this a couple of times before it worked. Hope this
helps.
Does anyone know how to align and adjust the s500 w220. The upper right corner of the lud closest to the window sits about 1/2 inch tilted up. Another symptom is when I hit the trunk release the kid would open like a quarter of the way then get really stiff and wouldn't fully open up.
Any input to what's going on and how to repair. The kid was working and closing fine without issue. And no accidents .
Great videos. I have a S500 1999 v reg I have a problem with the boot opening It is not hydraulic but won’t open with the key fob or the button in the door Any ideas?
Thanks!
you are welcome.
How do you fill the reservoir? Also, if I've removed the 2 hydraulic lines going into the pump assembly, does it need to be bled out? Its for a 2004 CL55 AMG? Thanks
Works
I have a 2004 s class 320 merc and the lever on the tailgate has started to become slow going back in when i close the boot is this easy to sort?
What hydraulic fluid do I need to fill in this system? and I do not know how to pump up the hydraulics, so that there is no air in the system? and at me this system noisily opens and it is necessary to press some times. Who can help me?
Does this apply to the 1999 S320 W220 LWB? Thank you.
The boot wouldn't drop...????? Wtf is a boot? I mean I have boots on my feet right now, you england guys need to learn proper English so we can all understand!
And don't use automatic transmission fluid because that's an hydraulic pump which requires hydraulic fluid !!!
This ain't an American car where you can use automatic transmission fluid in a power steering pump.
The word "boot"(which is commonly used by the English), goes back to 18th century horse-drawn carriages where the coachman sat on a chest, which was used to store, among other things, his boots. This storage space came to be termed as the "boot locker", which soon became the "boot"
