    First of all I want to thank you for your lifesaving tip. It happened to me tonight, I'm 73 years old, can barely walk, half deaf, can see well at night (I still can drive) and I'm broke. Well, tonight while on an errant the car stop shifting gears, then the devil whispered in my ear, "you can find your answer in UA-cam and boom, there you are with this exelente video, I tried and CHEETOS it works, the tip works, so I saved the money that I don't have, the car running nice and smooth and I'm happy as a dog with two tails. Again thanks for your tip.

      So you receive this beautiful help and gift....and you thank/ credit THE DEVIL?!?! My friend, please give the credit to where it truly is deserved, GOD and Jesus Christ.
      Furthermore, you better HOPE and pray 5hstvit wasn't really the devil that helped, because he doesn't help without 😭 requiring (and coming back to collect), an infinitely undesirable cost/ compensation.

      Dr math, thanks for your advice, the truth is I really thank the guy that made the video, about the devil whispered in my ear that is only a colloquial expression. About God, well at my 74 years of age I'm still debating, most sure I can tell you that I don't believe on your god, if you want to know I tell you; I believe in Spinoza's God and he doesn't make miracles or needs praying.

      One other thing about the check engine light. A bad fuel filler cap, will cause a check engine light to come on. The gas caps rubber gasket might not be sealing the filler tube so the tank wont be under pressure and cause the check engine light to come on. "If your engine light keeps coming on that is'. And if not your problem my reply is to maybe help another with the check engine light.

    I had a car scare on my E320 W210. First, I stopped at a light, and when I pressed the accelerator to go, the engine revved up and seem like it was stuck in 4th gear but I limped to the nearest parking lot (no first gear ). I worked the gearshift to reverse then drive then park for a bit. Put car in drive BUT it would not switch to 2nd gear....so I was close to home luckily. Drove rest of way home in first gear. Remembered something about a transmission reset from 4 or 5 years ago. I found this blog and decided to try a reset. Hooray! It worked. Took the E320 out for a test drive, and the transmission shifted through all gears very smoothly. The reset took all of 5 minutes. If I had taken the car to the Mercedes dealership for service, I can guarantee that they would have charged probably $300.

    The way I understood it was (and I may be wrong, I don't know a ton about this) but that the transmission is in adaptive learning continuously. Meaning, it is essentially "learning" all of the time anyway. It should 'adapt' to your driving habits over time. However, what this does is kind of reset that learning "data set", so to speak, which kind of accelerates the smoothing out of the transmission, opposed to waiting for it to catch up. So, it's not that the transmission stops learning at a point, it's that the input data gathered is cleared and has no further affect on your the current condition of the transmission. This is why they say that it needs a number of shifts (I've heard 40 too) because there needs to be 'some' input data to adapt to. Further recommendation would be to drive it for a little while after you reset it according to your typical driving pattern. I believe that's why you say that it gets better over time, because the data set becomes more averaged and gets closer and closer to your driving style. If your driving style changes from month to month or week to week, then resetting is where you'll notice the most difference. Anyway, that's kind of what I gathered from a non-technical background. :)

      Unfortunately, diagnostics for afar is extremally difficult.
      What you describe sounds like an engine problem.
      The easy fix could be spark plugs but an inspection before the work is done would be the best thing to do.
      The transmission is notorious for fluid to leak into the electrical connection and causing problems like you describe.
      I hope the repair turns out to be something simple like I described.

    Here is what I found. My starter battery was going out, this is the battery up front in, the engine compartment. Then I also load tested the battery in the back and it said it needs to be replaced due to the amperage being to low. Long story short, that tranny reset/ learn more works. My batteries being low and 1 bad caused this other issue. After replacing both, all worked fine.

I have never heard of this reset function. not saying it doesn't do something, but there are several incorrect terms used here. 1) the switch under the pedal is the wide open throttle switch, yes it will cause a down shift but that is only cause the engine module told the transmission to downshift. 2) the key position numbering he used is incorrect. off is key position zero, next is key position 1, turns on circuit 15R, next is key position 2 which turns on circuit 15, next is key position 3 which activates circuit 50 for the starter. also, once the key is turned off, the engine and transmission module are not communicating. once the key is in position zero, that turns off circuit 87 which is what powers the transmission, be it the 722.6 or the 722.9. once power is removed, there is no communication taking place. also, a "smooth" transmission is a transmission that will wear out faster. harsh hard shifts do not wear out an automatic transmission. a smooth shift actually wears the clutches faster cause of the slippage that has to take place. an automatic transmission is controlled slippage and the more of that taking place the less life your automatic transmission will have.

      This is a transmission reset which puts the setting back to the basic factory setting. The the feature that you are erasing is what was learned over time.

    I prefer my trans to shift a little firmly, lasts longer, less slippage ... easier on it, plus, being in Chicago and doing most of my miles at high speed I crazy traffic, let's just say, she gets to stretch her legs. it's fast shifting, it's firm. your transmission will actually last longer with a firm shift is the moral of the story.

    Seen a couple of other videos on the subject and everyone says that after removing the key, do NOT do anything for a few minutes - no opening doors, turning on anything - just stay put for a few minutes. Also no one has suggested to repeat the exercise every so often. Really confused now - help !!!!
    Can it be done even if there are no obvious signs of transmission mis-behaviour?

    • @A_Renaissance_Man

      Thank you for your comment. Of course, this will cause no issues if you do not have shifting problems. This puts the transmission in relearn mode not reset - if there is such a thing. I think that waiting in the car is a bit much. Without MB Star to prove it, my opinion is that opening the door, getting out, and closing the door does not prevent blanking the shift history for a relearn as I am quite sure this works for me and I get out of the car all the time after performing this procedure..

    • @KB-zq9ck
      @KB-zq9ck 5 років тому +1

      I don't know why this guy say "Relearn mode" It sets the trans back to factory default like the day it drove off the manufacturing floor. So it is a reset. So...being an adaptive driving style transmission of course it will learn how it is driven.

    Would highly suggest not executing this procedure once a month as you could actually do damage - and a lot of it ends to your transmission its control module or other various components. The reset procedure is meant to be executed after certain malfunctions have occurred not just because “the shifting isn’t buttery smooth“ Believe it or not the shifting in these vehicles is actually dictated by your foot on the Excelerator it will shift more aggressively if you are more aggressive with the gas pedal and it will shift more smoothly if you are more smooth with your acceleration - your foot going down onto the gas pedal...

      This function resets the learn mode and the transmission then shifts in accordance with the pattern seen. The two extremes would be little old lady and drag racer. Now, in the process of the reset to relearn some issues are corrected because, like all software, sometimes it gets off track and a reboot can take care of some issues. This is a no harm, no foul situation. Also, do not change the fluid. Only a disassembly, repair, should involve a fluid change no matter how old the fluid is.

    • @A_Renaissance_Man
      @A_Renaissance_Man  2 роки тому

      The last time I changed fluid was 25 years ago in 1997. The fluid is not subjected to the kind of heat that plagued them in the past. Usually fluid is not able to be filled as the fill cap is sealed off or otherwise discouraged. Typically fluid is only filled, or topped off after a minor repair and a transmission swap, the current practice, already has the fill done at the factory. I don't want to discourage you but finding a repitubal shop is also an issue you will have to deal with. If you find a good shop, see what they say. Good Luck and Safe driving.

      Thanks David, since my last inquiry, I know now that my issue isn’t a “speed sensor” like someone on UA-cam stated. I searched forever it seemed liked and got nowhere!
      So since I had one prepaid service left on my car, I had spoken to my service rep at a local MZB dealer I wanted to get it done and I asked him if he knew what a speed sensor was and he didn’t, but I should get the car in to check out the problem!
      After having it towed, I started looking for local independent MZB repair shops. I found out it’s one of two sensors on the transmission not on a wheel. It’s like what you mentioned, an electronic signal that controls the shifting from my steering wheel!
      I called a few repair shops before one of them told me (who will now get my future business) and one Dickhead told me it was the transmission, I was kinda shocked that he would think my GL450 with 60,000 miles would have that kind of a problem.I told him that I would think it was something more electronic than mechanical. Then he was a smart ass and said okay, it’s something electronic! I just said thanks and hung up. Now I hope Mercedes-Benz is as honest!!
      After the car arrived the service rep called me to let me know and that they were backed up and it wouldn’t be looked until Monday! Then he added since it’s out of warranty there’s a $200.00 “diagnostic” charge! I told him what my “diagnosis” was and he can check that! Well, of course you know the answer, they still must do their “diagnostics”!
      Now, I really regret not towing it to the local shop I spoke with. There would be no “diagnostic” charge, like any other establishment they would do, tell me the problem and give me the price for the repair!
      I’ve never gone back to a dealer before for repairs on either of my Mercedes or BMW’s in the past because of their exorbitant high costs of service and repairs! Now I’m sure I’ll regret having big towed there first!!
