Wonderful song...My favourite line is 'One breaks my body, the other breaks my soul'...What a beautiful but eloquent way to describe alcohol and love. Poetic!
What can you say about this guy? Brilliant, genius, a true artist in every sense of the word. Saw him this past winter in Columbus Oh. Superb show , and I never knew he was so funny. Nice to see he's mellowed with age.
all you people that think this song is about a city are absurd; song is pretty self explanatory; stop trying to be self righteous. phenomenal work as always from ryan.
I love the info post on this song. "Ryan's tribute to Los Angeles, to go along with his tributes to other fine cities like New York and Chicago... " That set me thinking, and somehow, I couldn't help hearing Tom Wingfield saying that, in the line that goes, "in otherwise peaceful cities like Chicago, Cleveland, St. Louis..." And with that, "He is... an emissary from a world of reality that we were somehow set apart from." In memory everything happens to music.
please just explain to me how this song is not sad. have you actually listened to the words? this is just a step away from Dear Chicago. "One breaks my body and the other breaks my soul"...not sad? Really?
Ryan Adams is a beautiful songwriter and musician, and has the best job in the world. He get's to do what he loves to do, and he's amazing at it. How many people can say "I love going to my job everyday" ? Yeah, you make minimum fucking wage, and Ryan Adams is the talentless one.
Ha ha, enough with the sad songs? Only in relation to the tragedy, loneliness and heartbreak evident in his other songs does "feels so good but damn it makes me hurt" not seem sad. Nice tune, nice job ufopilot.
"and i'm too scared to know how i feel about u know"... just thinking about it makes me feel sad.. and yeah.. "i hold u CLOSE in the BACK of my mind".. always.. =/ this song is saaad and it doesnt seem like its about a city
'flannel' shirts definitely seem like they're making a comeback. except, it's mostly just plaid button-up shirts that kids call 'flannel' because they don't know any better, and not real flannel's like this western style one.
I love his musical genious, his songs, and I will always look upward to his gift of talent. However, after seeing his embarrasing live performance in Ann Arbor a few years back, I can only hope he gets "straight" and buys a bar of soap and some shampoo with the money I wasted on a ticket to see him stumble around the stage smoking cigarettes, and playing along to a 45rpm recording of "Like A Virgin".

I had a different take on it. But that’s the genius of Ryan’s songwriting, it’s often ambiguous. Whatever it’s about, it’s a thing of beauty.
I wrote this: which did I assign to which ?
Best under rated song writer and singer ever
Jenny Lynne fuck the ratings, that’s for others! 😁🎸✨ he’s beautiful personified 👌🏼
He is just the best ever!
He is underrated, just like the music of #marieesiou who's lyrics take one on a transformational journey. Check her out. Marieesioux
Such a wonderful and sad song. Sad songs say so much
I LOVE him. Breaks my heart all the time and that's ok.
What a beautiful soul to write music like this, truly gifted. His music goes straight to my heart and soul.I love him
A genius , helping to save us lost souls , one can only thank him for his endeavours
Its awesome how excited he gets when the crowd starts cheering

Great song from a legendary song writer.Flying the flannel!
Holy crap I forgot about and lost this song for too long! :(
so lovely and i think ryan gives an homage to the Cure in the end...Pictures of You. It's amazing. He's an amazing dude. Manned up.
never noticed that but yeah, the string melody is similar to POY guitar lead and the song is in the same key.
So, so beautiful. The cello... *sigh*
Great Tune ! Ryan is the best !
DRA just awakening to how good his repertoire is
Love this song!

If you're gonna steal, steal from the best. Can't hate on you Ryan, Thomas Dolby broke the mold w/ this one.

Cada día me fascina más este hombre. Es imposible no enamorarse de canciones como esta.

Best song ever
la cinega is a street in Los Angeles which he wrote about when leaving LA to relocate to NYC
beautifuuuuuul'xx
please just explain to me how this song is not sad. have you actually listened to the words? this is just a step away from Dear Chicago. "One breaks my body and the other breaks my soul"...not sad? Really?
william mac singing about alcohol breaks his body and doesn't help him sleep anymore, and she breaks his soul. Just my thinking of it
I think of addiction, of the dealer coming in those jeans and he loving getting High but knowing it will break his soul and body, anyone agrees?
wow. "how I feel about you now"

This isn't about a city. It's a about a girl.
@VoodooPolitico It's aslo a place in Santa Fe County, New Mexico
@SamMcCumber I think we should find out who it is and make them cry, eh? That's what I think... damn good song..
Ha ha, enough with the sad songs? Only in relation to the tragedy, loneliness and heartbreak evident in his other songs does "feels so good but damn it makes me hurt" not seem sad.
Nice tune, nice job ufopilot.
here because of cocoakuma
💔
Felicity brought me here
@waves14 : easy. I'll always love you Swindon Town Services. Dear Slough, you'll never guess. Goodnight Basingstoke highstreet.
whats la cienega? a girl's name?
It's a street of LA, but it's a metaphor about a girl, from there i guess.
@waves14 what about "English Girls Approximately"? - "a Norfolk waterfall" ... (not as sexy as Hotel Chelsea Nights, admitted).
The songs I like are always are not the number one on billboard or other charts. This is his best song and charts disagree as always!
"and i'm too scared to know how i feel about u know"... just thinking about it makes me feel sad.. and yeah.. "i hold u CLOSE in the BACK of my mind".. always.. =/
this song is saaad and it doesnt seem like its about a city
This song is clearly about heroin addiction
@moonpainter metaphors
...what?

You don't know what the fuck you're talking about, so shut the fuck up

haha funny that one of the most beautiful places has a name that means "swamp"
Not a great version of a great song
