I remember finding this album in the UK in 98. I heard it for the first time and knew I’d stumbled across something very spacial. I’ve listen to Ryan since and he is a very accomplished musician and songwriter.
The writing is remarkable and I've always been amazed by his ability to put great melody to it. The twang and grit of old Whiskeytown still gives me goosebumps. "Excuse Me..." is priceless.
I hope other people feel the same way about Ryan Adams as I do. Some of his songs are honestly so perfect for me that I physically can't bring myself to explain the sheer emotion that overcomes me when I hear his voice. Sometimes it's joy, being so amazed at the flawless music. But do you find yourselves listening to these songs on repeat and feeling hurt? If you do, stop listening to this stuff and branch out. Listen to early hip-hop, some Soundgarden and throw in some reggae ffs. Live life!
His work spans a few decades and even at his tender age, the man brings experience you feel to the subject matter he examines in his work. Sincerity is a true currency in songwriting which makes Ryan wealthy beyond our understanding.

+Peter Kier - I've been a DBT/Isbell fan for a long time.... RA fan for even longer. Saw Isbell w/ the 400 Unit in Orlando a while back with about 20 people and was so confused at the lack of people there (this was during his drinking days).. man has that changed. I've seen him several times since and always a huge crowd. I had wanted to hear Isbell solo-acoustic since his DBT days because I felt he would be unbelievable. I was fortunate enough to see him open for RA in San Diego during an RA tour and was blown away, especially when he sang Alabama Pines. I'd venture to say I enjoyed his set more than Ryan's, and that's hard for me ;). His albums following that have been unbelievable. Got to see him and his amazing wife play with RA at the Ryman not too long ago too. He's right up there with Ryan in my book, close 2nd of course ;).
That wife of his is a huge talent in her own right, but also she was the one who could be said to have saved Jason from his demons. Now he is one of the best talents in music.
They're actually pretty good friends. Ryan was apparently a friend to Jason when he was getting sober. Isbell wrote Chaos and Clothes about Ryan's divorce from Mandy Moore. I've seen Isbell and Adams play together live once, but it's happened more than a few times based on the videos on UA-cam. Two lyrical heavyweights. Would STRONGLY recommend checking out Joe Pug's entire catalog if you're into this. Also, American Aquarium and the frontman, BJ Barham's solo record. Also, Justin Townes Earle.
If only Whiskeytown could've lasted longer. I suppose we maybe wouldn't have gotten much of Ryan's solo stuff, which is absolutely incredible, but Faithless Street and Strangers Almanac remain as Ryan's best work IMO.

Try to find that word once for Ryan Adams. He is a phenomenally gifted and talented musician and I love his music.
