    1. "A Human could never become god" becomes REALLY retroactively chilling when we realize the player is an AI...
    2. I suspect that, since the AI learns from observation (NEMO learns from Rena, after all,) NEMO might grow a personality around the people it's observing: UPEO wingmen teach it to protect the world as it is (and to not dwell over morally dubious actions overly much,) General Resource teaches it to pursue its own desires, Neucom teaches it to put others above itself, and Ouroboros teaches it how to accept its nature as an AI by showing it the difference between it and even electronic humans. I imagine the path NEMO chooses to finally take is how NEMO decides its own personality.
    3. It's also probable that NEMO's origin goes all the way back to Zone of the Enders from Assault Horizon Legacy, which would mean NEMO is rooted in an AI that took off against the Belkan's orders and also somehow disabled its own self-destruct mechanism, which we also see in AC7 as the AIs there also start ignoring orders too. One wonders what will happen after AC3's story, when Simon apparently lets NEMO off the leash because Simon got what he wanted and doesn't seem to care about anything beyond that.

That’s a beautiful point. I never caught on that ZOe and Hug/Muggin actively ignored or defied programming orders.

These are brilliant points that you make here! I especially like the third point as when we step back to see how Artificial Intelligence has evolved in the Ace Combat series, you're right when you say one wonders what will happen after AC3's story. Part of me says that NEMO may become another AI program that disobeys its orders, whether it disobeys the order to wipe Dision from the Electrosphere, or whatever self-destruct mechanism NEMO has, if it even has one at all. Like you said, Simon let NEMO off the leash, implying that there is no self-destruct or return to base order to serve as that leash. So it's very possible that NEMO is now totally free to do what it wants. And that ties in with the second point of the program deciding what path to take and how that will ultimately form its own personality. I really like how this makes you think a lot more about the ending. Like I said at the beginning of this comment, brilliant points that you made here!

Well, AC7's belkan scientist's assistant is Dyson's future lover in the AC3 game and partner of Neucom Simon's scientist developing NEMO, so the AI probably has the knowledge from previous ZOE historical battles in the Ace Combat series and modified in AC7 with Mihail experience.

One of the scariest parts of Ace Combat 3 is that, decades after its release, it's still relevant with the current timeline. Nemo is most likely programmed with most, if not all, of Z.O.E.'s combat data - data accumulated from ALL of the protagonists of all previous in-universe games; that is, AC, AC2, AC04, AC5, AC0, AC6, AC7, ACX, and ACXi. All of those aces. Nemo literally cannot lose because it was programmed *not to* , using data of aces that had *never lost* .

    • @LiteBosmark
      @LiteBosmark Рік тому +19

Since when was the data of Mobius, Cipher, Blaze, Gryphus, Falco and Talisman ever given to Z.O.E? It never encountered any of them (true, there was data from Pixy's final fight but that's not the same as getting Cipher's info).
Z.O.E is formidable, yes, but it lost like 5 times to Phoenix and even when improved was bested by Trigger.

Since Simon was such a great programmer, that he created an AI indistinguishable from actual human, and creating complex simulation of multiple companies, and actual humans transfered into electrosphere, I think we're just looking at a absolute genius here.
My headcanon is, that Simon was tasked in creating this AI, or wanted to create it and sell it to UPEO. While doing that, he tweaked and tested NEMO to see if he could also remove Dision, benefiting him four times - get revenge, kill a terrorist, save the world, and since it's his AI, no matter what path Nemo will take, Simon will be needed to supervise it, so he's set for life. 4 birds in one stone. Considering how much of a genius Simon is, it wouldn't be a stretch to think that Simon planned everything for 10 years so perfectly, that he could achieve all goals he could ever had with one creation.

One thing I noticed about missiles in AC3 from watching gameplay is that they act like real mid-Cold War sidewinders in how they maneuver. Unlike every other AC game from 04 onwards where standard missiles will trail enemies in a direct path similar to early sidewinders like AIM-9Es, AIM-9Js, and AIM-9Gs, the missiles in AC3 seem to do the "s-turn" that modern sidewinders perform like the AIM-9Ls, AIM-9Ms, and AIM-9Xs. Funnily enough, the missiles in AC3 seem to suffer a similar problem that many of the real world sidewinders that first used this form of tracking, such as the AIM-9L, where they would sometimes miss targets that aren't significantly evading. IRL, this was a problem that occurred more often against low speed targets as the predictive tracking of the missiles were programmed for targets traveling at a minimum speed (I believe it was Mach 0.8 for 9Ls) - anything traveling at a speed lower than that would sometimes cause a tracking error in the sidewinders resulting in them missing what should have been an easy target.
Besides that, another thing that I noticed is that the standard missiles in AC3 appear to have a "dumb" phase after launch similar to early AIM-9s and AIM-7s, in which it takes about a second before they go "live" and begin tracking their target. This would severely hinder the ability of missiles to track close range targets, especially in head-on attacks.

It's the fact it's so petty and human is what makes it so great. about the missiles tracking. im a bit surprised you havn't noticed. they track the cocpit instead of the engines and as a resault all the AI or you need to do is rotate the plane so the cocpit points alswhere to break missile lick. look carfully and you'll se the enemy AI move the cocpit ever so slightlly, thats how basic planes eveid 45 missiles. its much esier for the ai then you and the reason missiles are a nightmare to deal with. all your instinks from the later games work against you. iv actually coind the phrase missile prison, its when you shoot 6-8 missiles wilst rotating in order to ensure missiles will hit the target from every angle.

I remain mostly convinced to this day that, since Electrosphere came after Ace Combat 2 where the ADF-01 was already foreshadowed as a drone (and later even moreso with the 3DS remake) powered by the ZOE AI core, Nemo was meant to be a foil to ZOE to an extent.
Now with 7, I feel like considering the ending being what it is (plus Yoko being tied to its creation to a degree, courtesy of working with Schroeder), I can't help but feel that Nemo is either an modified ZOE core, or at least, an emulated bootleg of it in Simon's lab.
As you rightfully pointed out, Nemo cannot give orders, only take them. In the second half of Skies Unknown's mission 16 (Last Hope), well, we know how leaving drones free do that has turned out!

But he has a very obvious bias, and he seems to want to terminate Dision above all else, so he will be satisfied with the program if it shows him that result, even if it's unrealistic. Interesting fact about AC3 and AC4, I had a Japanese friend back then, he went to Japan to visit his family there, on a trip to buy games, he found AC3 and he knew I absolutely loved AC2, so he got it for me, I didn't understand anything (later, he found a booklet that had english translation of the story, so I knew what was happening), but I loved the game.
Fast Forward a few years, got my PS2, got AC4, after playing it for a month or so, made 100% in the game, it felt so underwhelming compared to AC3 JP, that, after doing everything I could in the game, I went right back to play AC3, which was the game that made my heart pump with adrenaline every time I played, simply beautiful, seriously.
AC3 is the best Ace Combat ever, the only thing newer games are better at, is the Sp. Weapons system, which triggered automatically in AC3, I mean, you choose a Air to Ground Missile, not only it would use the same missile ammo pool as the main missile, you couldn't freely choose it, they would only be enable if you choose a ground target, which made things complicated sometimes, as the air to ground missile behaved like an Air to Ship missile in new games, which means it would drop to the same elevation of the target immediately, then fly towards it, so, if it's inside a crater, the missile would always hit the crater border, since it didn't maneuver mid flight, and you couldn't just choose standard missiles for that target, because it's automatic, the perfect solution would've been to make the missile behave like air to ground missiles for ground target, meaning flying high then dropping from above into the target, and a air to ship against naval targets, but hey, that's *the only issue I have with the game,* everything else is perfect, and I even wouldn't let this semi minor thing impact in a review score, so the game is 10/10, simple as that.

I think another set of hints is each ending closing out with a "TV turning off" effect, and the end of the General Resource route where you hack the Geopelia, both land after the fight and they find no pilot in either of them in regards to Nemo being an AI, that way more or less each route gives some piece of the puzzle regarding it being an AI.

I hope at some point we get a remake of AC3 but instead of being a simple remake, make it be like being Nemo after Simon release it on to the real world. That would be a good excuse to have very identical misions and events but also different misions, paths and events too.

I think that the reason as to why Simon thinks that way is dumb but he has a reason for it
You see, our brain is hard wired with the ability to feel anxiety and anger, it helps us survive and adapt despite some of the problems it can also cause.
He likely blames dision for it because he believes that if Yoko was with him rather than with Dision that she wouldve been alive, he probably has twisted himself into blaming Dision because he believes although wrongly that if he were the man to have been with her that he wouldve been able to prevent her death
He is a narcissist with a savoir complex
The reason as to why he doesnt blame general recourse is probably because he was such a narcissistic he believed it was almost necessary to eliminate Dision
But when he survived he got pissed
It's a simple explanation but I think casting Simon as a narcissist with a savoir complex could really just make the ending better

Well, Dision was the reason why she stay on General Resource and didnt get transfered to Neucom on 2031 with Simon. She and Abyssal get kill on 2030. Simon was part of GR some years later of the lighthouse battle on AC7. That's why the CGI intro shows both Simon and Yoko together analizing data on a table and then she dissapears. Both were the assistants of Dr. Schroder on AC7. They were lab partners years before the Night Raven and Sublimation project. Abyssal, GR Ace, gets in the way and steals Yoko from Simon side. Being only played AC3 international version back in my childhood, I have soft spot for it despite being the massively nerfed version.
My personal headcanon is that the international version is the actual real world events of Simon's simulation. This time you are playing as UPEO pilot which is actual human, your good old silent Ace Combat protagonist.
We all know from the text that the leader of Ouroboros is an AI, Nemo to be exact. But in the real world, the Corporate War happens after Nemo already killed Dision and Nemo took over Ouroboros, becoming its leader.
Nemo being an AI that means he can learn from every past and present aces including the player, now the reason you are able to kill Nemo in the end, because the AI has already fulfilled it's purpose thus no longer sees any reason for its own existence...
but hey it's just a headcanon, my own silly headcanon to be exact lol
tbh if Project Aces decide to do the Corporate War storyline, I don't mind if they decide to get rid of the branching story and focus on the real world events of the war or retcon somethings. All I wanted are just the AC3 planes remake, because they are all so cool to me.

What I really loved at first about AC3 was the massive amount of experimental aircraft and experimental technologies showcased in game and aircraft features. It really felt like you were playing in the future.
Then I found out the AC3 JP version and I got intrigued by the story, art, visuals, etc. And finally saw the translated version and fell in love with AC3 even more!
Now, after having played the game, I don't want a remake to occur. I think what's best, is a reboot, or a "Rebuild of Electrosphere", to have a brand new story based on the results of the simulation. Something like... preventing all the bad outcomes of the simulation, while creating even more chaos. That would bring something new to AC3 fans, while also playing around concepts and story of the original game but in a different, more engaging way.
Something like Rebuild of Evangelion. At first pretty much everything similar, and then BOOM, everything changes.

Minor nitpick, but back then, this WAS the first fully silent protagonist. Scarface 1 in the previous games did speak albeit rarely, but you can infer from his co pilot he’s fairly upbeat and enjoys flying.
This is the first game to make someone fully silent, it’s really strange first noticing that.

As someone who picked up AC3 when it released in North American in 2000, I was so insanely disappointed at the lack of what was promised in magazine previews, wondering what had happened. Despite that major issue, it was pretty clear that there was ALOT to discover underneath the veneer of simplicity that was the international version. And I was so blown away when I managed to accidentally discover the Japanese intro if you pressed all the shoulder buttons, select and start at once (I think?) on the title screen. I got my chance to learn all the ins and outs of the story contained within the JP release in the mid 2000s thanks to the internet and it's insanely awesome to see projects like Nemo provide to fans what was missed in NA and Europe.
Even for the international version, Ace Combat 3 at it's core played great, looked great, sounded great and was so much not just a game, but an experience - whether you were an aviation afficianado like me or not. Namco of the 90s was something else, and much like Ridge Racer Type 4, Ace Combat 3 exemplified a focus on the experience as a complete package with amazing graphical design to boot.

I've watched your entire video, and it is hard to say, that there could be something more you can add to it to make it even more complete. But... There is still one more thing that concerns me. Especially after you've mentioned it briefly in Rena's Story. Because in the end when you were talking about what NEMO is, what are his limitations, and what he can become, you could've also say about one more thing. What NEMO is actually Capable of, and how horrifying omen he is for the future of Ace Combat.
But to expand my thoughts, I need to show few points from my perspective:
1 - We don't know the exact time the AC3 takes place. Yes... everything is mentioning the 2040s, but it is the year the Simulation inside the program is taking place. We don't know at which year Simon is actually working with his project. Who knows if his program is running after the Lighthouse War, or maybe actually during it. Maybe NEMO is actually a mixture of flight program mixed with the AI flight/combat data of ZOE/Gründer Drones (Which already have complete info of every single conflict before, as well as every single Ace Pilot flying/combat style! Of course including Mihaly's and Trigger's). This can also be a little connection with AC7 in which Drones were learning Trigger's flight style, And in AC3 Rena mentions that NEMO is starting to mimic her flying style.
2 - If I remember correctly Project Aces said, that they are still trying to find a good way to accommodate AC3's story into their world Lore. For now AC0, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are Cannon, AC1 and 2 are retconned/Non Cannon, and AC3 is still having the status Quo. Neither confirmed or denied. That means the future AC8 could have a plot about NEMO inside itself.
And point number 3 - Whatever NEMO is doing in AC3 Simulation, he is fully capable of doing in Ace Combat World. He can make his own decisions, he can decide about what he want to use (choosing the plane and its armaments), he can pilot everything with COFFIN system, he can decide about his affiliations and his partners, he can and will eliminate whatever he wants or he is ordered, and lastly... he can hunt its prey through unconventional methods. And that's the point that is the scariest part of NEMO. He can eliminate his threats conventionally (dogfighting with enemy planes), unconventionally (hunting Dision in Electrosphere), and literally Snatching the body of enemy pilot!
This is the moment when anyone reading this can say "WTF You're talking about", but hear me out: in Geopelia mission we are put against 8 completely unknown aircrafts, and during the mission we are hacking into one of our enemies. It is something that we're never had or gonna have in entire game or even franchise. NEMO never was told that he is even capable of doing such a thing. He just thinks that hacking enemy plane is the most optimal route for the mission and he literally executes it. He hacks into enemy plane, eliminates the threat, finishes the mission and lands the experimental plane while also controlling his primary plane for the whole time in perfect Sync! And hacking enemy plane is a nuance itself, but there is something that makes this mission most disturbing thing in the entire franchise. The XR-900 we are facing can actually be Man operated! We are acknowledged of this in the ending of General Resource, which shows open cockpit of the plane. This means that NEMO can literally Posess a body of a person that is connected to his plane by COFFIN system! And of course empty plane in cutscene isn't the evidence that can sell this idea, but other thing from AC3 campain actually can. And it is the Nanobite incident that Rena survived. The Nanobites were doing exactly the same thing to Rena, that we have done to one of the pilots of the Geopelia. Only difference is that they failed in what we have actually succeeded.
And now imagine a future Ace Combat scenario - You, and your wingman are ordered to test a new fighter jet capabilities, by friendly dogfighting scenario. You flying conventional aircraft, and your partner having the pleasure of checking new standard of COFFIN fighter jet. Mission starts, scenario is involving tailing, and targeting each other. And in the middle of the mission something wents wrong. And no. There is no enemy planes, no typical Ace Combat superweapons, no anything. And yet you're hearing agonizing screams of your partner through your comms. The screams that are repeating over and over again, until they're gone. And until your Wingman starts to fire at you without a word. You're trying to evade everything, but harder you try, it actually harder it gets to evade. You're trying everything to communicate with your friend, but there is no response. So you have no choice than to actually shot down the plane with you're partner in it. The tragic impact of your decision could be made even bigger by hearing how your friend regains consciousness seconds before crashing his plane into the ground, with no possibility of escape, telling you how something took control of his body...
Imagine an Ace Combat game in which you are fighting not against typical invading enemy country pilots, but fighting against friendlies possessed by rogue AI... The true Horror of something unknown!

It's been 7 months so you may have already heard this from someone, but XFA-36A is based on the real life experimental aircraft X-36, while Fenrir, not only was an entirely original design by Project Aces, but actually did not have a designation in the original work of Ace Combat X (it was just called "Fenrir"). It only received it later when Project Aces decided to introduce the aircraft to Ace Combat Infinity as "XFA-33 Fenrir".
And yes, I do think they are suggesting that the development of the aircraft was technologically and/or financially backed by General Resource, although I wouldn't consider Fenrir to be a predecessor to XFA-36A considering the different origins of their design. However, since Diego Navallo was essentially using the war as a promotional campaign for his weapons, it's likely he was, at least partly, acting behalf of the General Resource; meaning the big corporations fighting a war thing was already somewhat a reality in 2020, which is neat.

1:18:04 You got this *VERY VERY VERY WRONG* and all your rant is illogical. When Simon says that Dision stole Yoko from him, he meant, by being in a relationship with her, he took Yoko away from Simon (in a romantic way). He doesn't mean that he stole Yoko from him by killing her.
Simon already knows that GR killed both Dision and Yoko, after all, he monitors Nemo, but he doesn't care anymore about that fact because he can't do anything about it.
Simon is VERY smart, and he knows he can do anything at all about her death, but at least, he can ensure the sublimated version of Dision doesn't live anymore. The dead-copy of the man that stole Yoko from Simon (once again, in a romantic way, not by killing her). If you watched the video of GR forces planting the bomb, you can read that Dision death was considered an acceptable collateral damage. So in conclusion. Your rant there was pure nonsense because you took it on the wrong side.

And most fans thought it was the absolute worst entry in the whole series when in fact it really isn't and it's a alright fine entry of its own even though it ain't a classic gem like 5 & 0 but good enough of it's own & taking in a good risk at the time into bring in new fans into the core series in general did work while having some faults that can be fixed in a future remastered if that ever happens especially easing up the DFM most of the time & such. While Infinite was the 2rd blacksheep of the series for a few years & AC6 being a mediocre entry at the time, I think like Infinite Warfare, it's time AC fans appreciate AH for what they did despite the faults it contains but appreciated for trying new risks & bring in some new ideas that'll carry over to future entries like flares & such & time to truly hate AC3 international version for being not only the 1st blacksheep of the series but truly the absolute worst entry of all time with little to no story & literally 85% of it's content being removed completely whatsoever from the superior JPN version in general. If the entire AC community knows the full story of why AC3 international versions was the way it was released fully, then they'll understand the reasoning of why everyone should hate that game entirely. At least AH didn't remove ANY story elements despite being a bit of reality & kinda predictable in some points tho, but in AC3 international only one story & that's literally it with no VO or cutscenes to tell a story AT ALL!

Simon's efforts in the real world. Simulation after simulation, to achieve the perfect outcome.
For Simon, it was to evolve the Nemo AI to its zenith, but for Katsuhiro Ishii, it was to improve the game's overall AI to the point that you couldn't distinguish if your allies and enemies had real air combat experience or not.
    Truly an impressive effort.

I just replayed acecombat 3, but this time with the translation. And then saw your video. It's so good. Both the video and the game.

Why would you not mention the superb soundtrack in a 90 minute essay about the game? The composers did a heck of a job.

      Especially the Ouroboros betrayal mission.
Gave me chills but it makes sense why the song are like that. We're gonna wipe the girl's identity and memory just so we can traumatize our target.

Awesome vid ! Thank you. I Have a theory why Simon reaction makes sense. I think their is more than meet the eye. Yoko was working with simon who work for neucom. Them she is with Dision who works at Generale ressources, so was here! That is why simon thinks Dision is the first one to blame. They meet yoko fell in love with dision and left neucom to continue their ressearch on sublimation at GR! It's a triple treachery! He took her heart, her body and his work. If it was not for dision she would still be working safely at neucom. And who knows why GR killed them both or even did they really commands the attack? Dision who still working with after. Weird, I think Simon is responsable for their death! (Either directly or by manipulation of GN or even Neucom) But Dision unfortunately was numerically copied just before. That piss him enough to create a Super IA to destroy him. To he dude is the best ace of the world and a computer program, saved online... So very hard to kill. Rhat os the way I see Simon motivation and story. Worst tha' a simp. A narcissist possessive genius.

While watching this, I forgot I had the Ace Combat 3 soundtrack playing, and Quartz started playing at 1:05:12 and I was thinking to myself that was clever use of music in the video until quickly realizing that the music was from the video. Strangely enough the soundtrack from on that point matched up with the video extremely well.
