Actually there is a point to going to the future, though its not a huge one. The bad future is an obstacle, full stop. You end up in a harder, uglier version of the level and you would need to travel back to make it easier. The good future is an easier variant, removing enemies and even outright shutting off certain obstacles (like the Wacky Workbench electricity for example) allowing for much smoother level progression. If you get all the time stones, all levels are automatically set to the good future, which lets you just jump there and cruise through the level freely.

My favorite sonic game... Sonic Cd. The first time I play it I was very confused but after month of practice I managed to get the good ending. The art style is beautiful, the ost is awesome, the intro and outro are awesome, The time travel mechanic is awesome, exploring the levels is hard but fun, yeah... this game is awesome!
I think the time travel is an awesome concept, but the level design being built more for exploration really does not compliment the requirement for time traveling, which almost single-handedly kills the game for me. I simply can’t stand when a game tries to have its cake and eat it too.
In all honesty, this is actually my favorite Sonic classic game. Despite its slight departure from the Sonic formula, it still appealed the most to me with the time travel, level aesthetic and definitely the music.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles is definitely the best game. But the one I enjoyed the most is Sonic CD. The music, the concept, the special stages. The level design didn't make a lot of sense, but I enjoyed it so much more because of it. Can I mention the music again? Specifically Stardust Speedway and Metallic Madness and their variations? God I love this game
13:40 I'm probably adding to a deluge of identical comments, but... why don't you just press DOWN to curl into a ball after the Peel-Out? :P Sonic CD is probably my second-least-favorite of the classic games, and it's fascinating to see how much our perspective differs as to WHY we don't like it. I watched the intro animation a billion, billion times too... I just did it on the Sega CD, haha. The fact I could only play it when I rented a Sega CD, along with how freakin' unique it was, gave it this surreal, special vibe to me. If you grew up being able to play it on a phone and look up the ending on UA-cam, WOO, yeah, that would change a lot.
Oscar McCormack depends, if you’re playing the original with the shitty spindash but you want to get speed whilst in a ball, that’s your go-to. otherwise yeah there’s no real point
@@tev1300 They're good for different things. Spindash is better for going up sheer walls, but the peel-out is your best bet for getting jump height off slopes.
Oscar McCormack Nah, even with the Sonic 2 spin dash the peel out has its uses and is really fun to use. It’s essential to learn how to use it if if you want to efficiently time travel
I forgot to mention this but if you listen closely to the Japanese version of Metallic Madness Bad Future, there is a deep, robotic voice saying some dark sentences like "Just give up" and "Dead or alive...Sonic is mine." The voice is theorized to be Robotnik speaking to the player because, since it's the bad future, he has already taken over Little Planet. Pretty disturbing.
I agree so much with the overuse of colors in this game. I also had trouble seeing enemies in the stage plus the stages dont really represent anything Its like playing in a painting
*Didn’t You Know?* The CD in Sonic CD actually stands for Sonic Can’t Dash, because of all of the crap that gets in the way when you’re trying to just play a Sonic game with your 4-year old nephew who won’t stop crying over how he keeps dying on the first level. 9/10, has something for everyone.
This game and Shadow the Hedgehog are some of my favorites in the series. As flawed they are, they had some really unique level tropes and ideas at their core ( Time Travel and Branching Paths )
I'm elated to finally to find someone who agrees me, since the unanimous judgement I've seen towards Shadow's game has been that it was a piece of garbage, as though we can't like them as flawed as they are. I feel like if it was remade with love, it could be phenomenal

I love the concept of Sonic CD, I think it would be amazing if they remastered this game as a more modern 3D game with the same story and stuff. The time travel mechanic is one of my favorite concepts for a video game and can have so much potential.

Sonic CD is great, No game is perfect and even if you look at Sonic 1 it has its own issues. But Sonic CD definitely deserves its place among 1,2,3,and K. Hell Sonic 1 had a bug that prevented the title screen from displaying "Press Start". But they were all great.
Unpopular opinion here. But I actually like CD more than Sonic 2. Sonic 3 & Knuckles is still my favorite of the classic series. But I would rather play CD over Sonic 2.
For me though, Sonic CD’s flaws outweigh everything else the game potentially has going for it, making it the lowest ranking of the four main games included in Sonic Origins by a wide margin in my opinion (and I already find those games overrated on the whole).
@@jaredargento1511 So if the year was 1994 are you telling me you wouldn't be a Sonic fan? There was a time when that was all there was. Those are what great Sonic games are to me. Their level design, their gameplay, their music, their style.

Yeah, but it makes me want to knock some sense into them. Seriously, you can like what games you like, but if you accuse someone of being wrong for not feeling the same way you do, then you deserve to be called out.

Major props to Scott for uploading on a Sunday.

Scott always uploads on Sunday.
In all honesty, this is actually my favorite Sonic classic game.
Despite its slight departure from the Sonic formula, it still appealed the most to me with the time travel, level aesthetic and definitely the music.
I agree, Sonic 1 had only three good levels, Sonic 2 was a uhhhh- it's alright, Sonic 3 was a little too dark in colour variety (for me)

I'm probably adding to a deluge of identical comments, but... why don't you just press DOWN to curl into a ball after the Peel-Out? :P
Sonic CD is probably my second-least-favorite of the classic games, and it's fascinating to see how much our perspective differs as to WHY we don't like it.
*I would marry sonic cd*
Because it's awkward and less effective than just using the spin-dash from the get-go.

Number 27 When Infinite was revealed I was REALLY hoping he had something to do with that whole thing.
