I think more people respect Sonic 1 rather than love it, I like the game but looking back I can agree with you and what KingK said about the game that Green Hill Zone is the reason these games caught on and where it found its identity for the original Megadrive/Genesis run. It was simply the blue print and what came afterwards really put the series on the map, shame most of the 3D games are still trying to find their way but I still like this series and will support it for better or worst.
The SNES Man that’s what sonic was though, 3D sonic games are what set the tone for sonic games to just be about speed. In his 2D era he was meant to rival Mario so even though speed was his gimmick and part of his identity that’s not all there was to sonic originally. Yeah there was speed but there was also platforming

I’ve heard they made it switch from fast-paced stages Green Hill-Spring yard-Starlight to slow paced stages Marble-Labyrinth-Scrap Brain to help not alienate players from back in the day who were used to slower paced tight platforming

Facts,it was like the calm before the storm considering what happened in 2020. And even on its own,it’s arguably one of the few good video game movies.
Sonic 1 is Great. Sonic CD is Sonic 1 on Steroids, Sonic 2 is Sonic 1 PERFECTED, Sonic 3 is 2D Sonic Perfected (& KNUCKLES). In all seriousness, Sonic 1 is a pretty stellar platformer. -Sure Marble Zone can drag but there are sections that can be sped through with risky platforming. -I actually absolutely love the color palette and designs in Spring Yard Zone. -I uh... Yeah, I can't defend Labyrinth Zone. -Starlight Zone is your speed-filled reward for beating Labyrinth Zone. -I forgot how cheap Scrap Brain Zone actually was/is for first time players. -Final Zone is hard for n00bs. Sonic Mania is just as good and in some ways better than Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

I never really had these problems with Sonic as a kid. I started playing Sonic Christmas of '91 and I was awe struck by how amazing the game truly was. I recieved an Snes that Christmas as well and too me Sonic The Hedgehog was superior to Super Mario World. My first time playing Sonic I made it to the end of Labyrinth Zone. I wond up beating the game after two or three tries and kept coming back for more. I was 9 years old at the time. Now Super Mario World...that took me quite a bit more time to beat. That damn Star Road was the bane of my existence.
There are plenty of good Sonic games after SA2. I know Heroes soured a lot of people since it was a step back from SA2, but Heroes, Rush, Advance 3, Rush Adventure, Unleashed, Black Knight, Colors, Generations, and Mania are all good and that isn’t including spinoffs like the racing games.
Marble zone may drag on a little but its got some sweet music set to it. I have all the sonic games for my genesis and i still love playing 1 or 3 more than 2. Probably only cause I played 2 over and over since 92 when i got it lol
Out of all the 2D Sonic games (main series), this is the one I like the least. It's still a fine game, but I don't understand why people continuously praise this game when they only really like half of the zones, while Sonic Adventure is bashed for the same "only half the game is good" reason. I love Green Hill, Marble Zone is boring and tedious, Spring Yard is a fun romp, Labyrinth is horrendous, Star Light is also fun, and Scrap Brain actually isn't that hard, except for Act 3, which needs to lie down.
I like 4/6 I hate marble and labrinth. Spring yard was good but not great. Scrap brain and starlight i thought was great. And green hill is of course the Best
You should try playing Sonic 1 via Sonic Jam on Sega Saturn. The games were not emulated on the Saturn they were made from the ground up for the Saturn and they look and running beautifully. The reason I say this though is Sonic 1 added the spin dash from later entries in the Sonic Jam version
Just gonna say, if you want a save feature in this game, the Sonic Classic Collection on the DS has a save system for this game as well as Sonic 2 and Sonic and Knuckles.

Hey man, Generations and Mania are amazing!
There are plenty of good Sonic games after SA2. I know Heroes soured a lot of people since it was a step back from SA2, but Heroes, Rush, Advance 3, Rush Adventure, Unleashed, Black Knight, Colors, Generations, and Mania are all good and that isn’t including spinoffs like the racing games.
Bonus points for using Socom 3 for that PS2 example.

Marble zone may drag on a little but its got some sweet music set to it. I have all the sonic games for my genesis and i still love playing 1 or 3 more than 2. Probably only cause I played 2 over and over since 92 when i got it lol

Out of all the 2D Sonic games (main series), this is the one I like the least. It's still a fine game, but I don't understand why people continuously praise this game when they only really like half of the zones, while Sonic Adventure is bashed for the same "only half the game is good" reason. I love Green Hill, Marble Zone is boring and tedious, Spring Yard is a fun romp, Labyrinth is horrendous, Star Light is also fun, and Scrap Brain actually isn't that hard, except for Act 3, which needs to lie down.
I like 4/6 I hate marble and labrinth. Spring yard was good but not great. Scrap brain and starlight i thought was great. And green hill is of course the Best

You should try playing Sonic 1 via Sonic Jam on Sega Saturn.
The games were not emulated on the Saturn they were made from the ground up for the Saturn and they look and running beautifully. The reason I say this though is Sonic 1 added the spin dash from later entries in the Sonic Jam version

Just gonna say, if you want a save feature in this game, the Sonic Classic Collection on the DS has a save system for this game as well as Sonic 2 and Sonic and Knuckles.
