Super interesting! That's why stop motion is so amazing and unique, just a small rod can make a difference! Edit: oh, and congrats on 50k, you are the best!!!
Such an amazing animator, cool that you got to hangout with him and make this video for us to learn! You both are such amazing animators, really enjoyed this video! 🙂👍🤘
Your Chanel is so useful for myself and my friend who are just starting out on the Animation journey and your videos are helping a lot, hope you are still doing well in 2023, cheers
Wow I love how much your channel grows! you teach me my first steps for Stop Motion and now thanks to your videos I’m doing videoclips for 5 songs of a peruvian band :)
Edu, this was amazing! Thank you so much for this! You are actually my favorite person to watch, as your obvious passion for this makes the videos way better than most of the stuff on this site. Thank you!!!
Thanks, Tim (and Edu)! I was using toothpicks to shape and position clay characters but they didn't hold up too well. So I made a "pick" out of 1/8 inch diameter steel much like your Dob stick. I made one end sharp and the other rounded (for shaping).
Yes metal is the way to go for those tips, but sometimes wood is better to avoid damaging soft parts of the puppet so, don't throw away your toothpick😀
Dob stick - How about knitting needles or particularly - straight "cable" needles which are short and pointed at both ends and used for fancy stitch work? Thank you so much for your videos. They teach me so much.
Very helpful video!! Many thanks to Tim for sharing tips with the world! Was great working with him on Flying Machine and Frankenweenie! Looking forward to meet him again soon. ... Funny: I don't even remember who gave that name to the tool, but I've never called it that way.
You might try using TIG welding tungsten electrodes. Use a small bench grinder to shape the ends. Hold the tungsten in a drill chuck and spin it. They’re available in various diameters and can be sharpened to a needle point easily. (Be careful).
¡Buen video!
How is the small puppet object scaled to bigger canvas on movie screens ? Second question is the frame rate maintained in full animation flim like 1080p, 4k..etc.
I want to be a stop motion animator and i was wondering if they still make the puppets by hand or if its done digitally, because i would love to do it by hand
Tim Allen, totally superb ! but this Dob Stick thing is pretty lame. Thus this whole video is.. Thought may be someone would have the same opinion, but everyone is finding it amazing and the video too. My fav stop mo movie Boxtrolls :)
Hope you liked it, please go and say hi and thanks to Tim Allen, good friend and amazing animator!

This was so coool!!!!!
Thank you! That was an amazing mini master class. :D I am thinking that double ended knitting needles might work as a dob stick too!
Amazing video, thank you guys
Awesome as always. I’ve not had the pleasure of meeting Tim yet. Maybe one day 👍🏻
You have more chances than others being from the same country
Ha I know. I’m sure our paths will cross at some point 😀
Amazing as always.
Always stay tune, thank for share brother
I'm in love, the video was really interesting and amazing
Great video, thank you both so much
Thank you for that it was very helpful and informative .
I’m about to do a test on the mini stage and this really helps, I got some steel rod and a grinder!

Thanks for share this..very useful tips indeed...maybe one day I will able to make a decent puppet to use and I will applicate this to him...
I am sure you will, start making it tomorrow and you will!!!
I am the 503 visualization!. woohoo...I love Edu puertas!!!!!!
Dob stick - How about knitting needles or particularly - straight "cable" needles which are short and pointed at both ends and used for fancy stitch work? Thank you so much for your videos. They teach me so much.
Modified needles might be perfect

Wow, seems really fancy for this application but I will give it a shot. For now I am using stainless steel rods.
To infinity
*AND BEYOND!!*
Hi an d thanks, Tim Allen!!.... And cheers Edu puertas!, you are my amor platónico!
¡Buen video!
edu puertas Muchas gracias
I am so amused that Dobrin got an animation tool named after him :D Height of fame!
Funny: I don't even remember who gave that name to the tool, but I've never called it that way.
My god! It seems to me so impossible to animate these puppets the way real people do. You must be crazy, cause you make it thousands of time.
Great tip. I've been using chopsticks and bamboo sticks. Is there any advantage to steel? I may change over.
Just that they can be thinner to apply force but it can be same principle
Thank you very much❤❤❤
Yey
Yo he visto todas esas animaciones, buenísimas!, he visto incluso la de Isle of Dogs, pero mi favorita en definitiva es El niño y el zorro...
I wonder if a wooden skewer can be used as a substitute or if they're not strong enough.
I think they can bend so it is hard to trust them
I’ll call it the “Stabby Stick 9000”.
Thank you.
excellent tips
How is the small puppet object scaled to bigger canvas on movie screens ?
Second question is the frame rate maintained in full animation flim like 1080p, 4k..etc.
The dob stick is around 10 cms. We shoot normally at 4k 24 fps
Dob stick is a short double-pointed knitting needle, used for knitting socks .
I want to be a stop motion animator and i was wondering if they still make the puppets by hand or if its done digitally, because i would love to do it by hand
Puppets are real, all by hand
@@edupuertasfruns unbelievable
Thank you for this video and all the tips! I have just subscribed and I wonder if there a link where we can see a long video of Matilda.
Time stops when you’re making stop-motion animation, it’s been 6:39 the entire duration of the video
Can you use a dob stick to turn eyes?
You could but it is not the most pointy tool
Post-production or using plasticine to cover it
edu puertas muchas gracias!🙏🏼
WOOOOOW THANKS!!!

I would love to watch you stop motion movies. Are they online?
