It's funny because when I started to consider going into stop motion I was like "ok what is the best process for removing the rigs ?" and I used to analyze the making-of videos from Kenta/Animist showing some editing parts, accelerated, but as he's not speaking in them and all his softwares are in japanese I took some time to translate all the info displayed. That said, I can confirm that you just posted the only one video explaining the After Effects rig removal process from A to Z on UA-cam, with pro tips about the rigs, set & shooting, so, thank you so much for this, the newcomers & beginners will be helped, for sure ! well, it is completely diferent, and on after you can control the interaction between frames, a lot of times you make a stroke with the stamp and in the next frame it does not match the one you just made. In photoshop you cannot control it playing nicely.
All the cleaning of rigs, compositing, editing, colour correction can be done in Resolve, it's free so no need to pay for Adobe products. And if you want to pay for Resolve, it's a 1 time licence at a decent price that gives you access to updates forever.

I think some people use green tape to cover the end of their rig where it meets the puppet. Then they key out the green as a starting point for rig removal in post production.
Have you ever tried using z-depth to eliminate rigging? In 3D animation, of course, you get this layer for free. With stop-motion, you'd have to use a stereo camera or perhaps LIDAR.
Great video, to be honest, Davinci can do great film editing and color grading. After Effects is a software on to itself that would be amazing to get an alternative. Also, more of these would be great!

Thank you very much for the tutorial, really clear and precise 👍 Question of a noob: Why not cover the arm rig with "green" colour before the shot, would it not be easier to edit out like we see the backgrounds and objects in the movies?
I have a question. Whenever I try to use the eraser tool, the area that was erased stays for the rest of the footage. How were you able to erase a new area of a frame without it carrying over to the next frame?
Congratulations for the video, I would like to know how you cover the holes you make to fix the puppets' feet so they don't appear in the following scenes.
When you use tie downs lets say for a walk, how do you hide the holes, do you take a back plate, then drill all your holes in the floor for the walk, and then remove them like when you remove the rig in post production?
