Since 2d4 is actually better than 1d8, the monk levels did nothing for the damage.
Thank you so much for this build! Something you could also do just cause, you know he's death, instead of bard pick a caster that gives many necrotic spells
2d4 is actually better than 1d8, because the base minimum damage is higher with 2d4. Any chance you have to roll additional dice for damage, you should take it. That means when you crit, your minimum damage is 4 instead of 2 (again, with no bonuses). Note, when dual wielding, your minimum damage total with both hands hiting is 4 (instead of 2) if you have no strength bonus. The upper damage remains the same, but it really makes it so even your minimum damage can have an impact. Every playthrough I do, I have a small IRL rage that I cannot turn one of my Red Cap Sickles into a Sussur Sickle. The RC Sickle really is possibly the strongest one handed weapon for an offhand until you get to the Creche.
Agreed, 100%. That’s why when it comes to two-handed/heavy weapons I generally prefer to use greatswords and mauls to greataxes since the 2d6 from the former two guarantees more damage on average than the latter’s 1d12
I know you picked Bard for various reasons BUT if you don't feel like dipping one level in bard (to get proficiency in musical instruments only) you can also help Alfina the Tiefling Bard with her song, that way you also get proficient with instruments. Just an fyi in case you didn't know 🥰 great build idea btw. I was looking for sickle stuff but could barely find anything
For the record, the math on 2d4 vs 1d8 is actually pretty simple. Statistically, you say that a die deals half its value + 0.5 on average. This is essentially because you cannot roll a 0 on a die. If you roll 2d4 dice, you will then deal 5 damage on average (2.5+2.5), and with 1d8 it is 4.5 on average. Essentially, more dice is equal to more damage on average because you eliminate some element of randomness. For example, while rolling a 1d20 for damage would be a lot, you can essentially roll anything between 1-20. On the other hand, if you roll 5d4, you now roll anything between 5-20 which is a 25% increase in damage, as 1d20 averages out to 10.5 on average and 5d4 to 12.5 (2.5x5) on average. The highest possible damage is the same, but the average is higher. Getting two weapons that deal 2d4 damage is actually a pretty okay boost then, considering how many attacks a two-weapon fighter makes, even if the sickle has been overlooked by Larian! Great find
The damage dice increased ONLY if the original damage dice is lower than you martial dice (d8 maximum in bg3). So 2d4 dice is actually higher than that and cannot be increased at all (you need to become lvl 17 monk to increase d8 to d10 and it is impossible in bg3).
2d4 averages as 5 and the average comes up more frequently compared to the average of 1d8 which is 4,5. If there are more dice, then the probability of the average result increases by a lot.
I think a mix or 3 thief/9 bard, with thief and college of swords being your subclasses. College of swords adds your charisma modifier to your strikes which should help.

The maths possibly does work out better for 2d4, thinking about it. 🤔 1d8 has a 12.5% chance to get any result, 2d4 halves your chances of getting an 8, but doubles your chance to get a 5 and you can't roll a 1. So arguably your damage output is more consistent and less RNG-dependent.

It can be done pretty easily. I would do a Ranger 5/Warlock 7 split. Use the Gloves of Dexterity to make your DEX 18, start with a 17 in CHA and use ethels boon to make it 18, make CON 14 and leave it there, and then have 16 WIS and use an ASI to make it 18. You then have things like the Birthright Hat to make your CHA 20. You even have a feat free for Sharpshooter of you want. With this, all of your nessicary stats are now very good. You don't need CON as much as a ranged fighter. You could even use potions of Giant Strength with the titanstring bow for huge damage.

Yes, but I, *for some reason,* thought that the Monk Weapon feature would upgrade the 2d4 into 2d6 and so forth. But it makes sense when you realize how math actually works.
So explain the monk weapons to me.... Is it *any* weapon you are proficient with, even weapons added by other classes? Or is it just the weapons you get from Monk class? Simplez etc? This is something that has confused me.
Any weapon you have proficiency in can use your dex with a Monk level as long as it's not two handed. If you start with Fighter, then go with Monk, almost every weapon will use your dex
sorlock blasters are overrated, evocation wizlock with the potent robe and maxed out cha and int turns an eldritch blast into a nuke. 2 warlock, 10 evocation wizard, empowered evocation, potent robe, and agonizing blast can add 17 extra force damage to an eldritch blast. If all 3 blasts hit a target, thats a minimum and maximum of 54-84 damage not factoring in DR/DRS and crits. With haste, thats 108-168 damage per turn.

How did you start the game at level 12 and with gear? Is that a mod?
Can you do a fey wanderer build? I'm working with a ranger archfey warlock build but it's not optimal.
You could even use potions of Giant Strength with the titanstring bow for huge damage.
technically 2d4 is better than 1d8 cause the minimum u can roll is 2
Totally understand if you want to slow the content down
Oooo I’d love if you did D&D or TTRPG videos
Clean!!!
although I will make my official response to the question in the right place and time, putting a comment down helps the algorithm.
So 1st, you have an interesting voice, and I enjoy your low key nerdy humor. I love BG3, over 1500hours game play. I also DM a 5th ed D&D group (Sundays 1pm PST) so anything D&D related is on my radar. I also play FFXIV and COH Homecoming. Which reminds me 4pm PST Friday costume Contest on Excelsior. ... this week is Pink, and I'll probably be in the Judge Team since it's my SG that runs it. (I'm an unimportant member, but I love memes)
Ok sorry rambling for the algorithm post done. But yeah, D&D even MMO content would be cool. Lore videos, Build ideas, hells even game reviews as long as they fit the RPG model.
I'm new to a class and still learning what keybinds work best for me. Is there a way to add the keybind number or letter to the CD rotational row?
Hey, this isn't the funny spider demon...
I feel like I'm missing a reference
You could always do builds with modded stuff from 5e such as Hexblade, arcane archer, divine soul sorcerer, etc.
Yeah, but one of the things people say they like about my channel is that the builds are accessible for console players. I don't want to alienate them when there still so much to do with vannilla
@@HoboZone fair
Where can I get this black dye?
It's modded. There are a few mods you can get it from.
Hmm... Are the war picks stronger damage wise, I wonder? If so, the look would not differ all too much from sickles and the dmg may be better?
They may be, but they very little options unfor
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't 2d4 better than 1d8? Because you're rolling two dice you can't roll a 1, the minimum is 2 no?
Yes, but I, *for some reason,* thought that the Monk Weapon feature would upgrade the 2d4 into 2d6 and so forth. But it makes sense when you realize how math actually works.
How are you getting +5 for those sickles? I made this build and its scaling off my strength with a -1
Did you take Monk levels? They cause the sickles to use your dex.
It could just be a bug with the UI, or something broke with Patch 6.
why not a shadow monk
So explain the monk weapons to me....
Is it *any* weapon you are proficient with, even weapons added by other classes?
Or is it just the weapons you get from Monk class? Simplez etc?
This is something that has confused me.
Any weapon you have proficiency in can use your dex with a Monk level as long as it's not two handed.
If you start with Fighter, then go with Monk, almost every weapon will use your dex
@HoboZone
Dang...so anything 1 handed will basically get Finesse. That is sweet.
any chance we can get a ninja build (shadow monk x thief)
Anyone know what that legendary ring in his inventory was?
How you get that outfit?
where do i get the armor
Roah Moonglow the Zhent trader you find at the Goblin Camp and Moonrise :)
@@spctvl03 thx👍🏻
How do you get so high in levels at the start
sorlock blasters are overrated, evocation wizlock with the potent robe and maxed out cha and int turns an eldritch blast into a nuke.
There's any build with the Katana you find in act 3?
ua-cam.com/video/rvhRdNSdwao/v-deo.html
i cannot figure out how to get "1 xp to level" to work any suggestions?
You need to place the files in your Public folder under Data
Then you need to fight an enemy (the first encounter of the game is enough to reach level 12) and then you'll beat level
I was wondering is it possible to add necromancer to this build?
Yep! I would do a split of 6 Monk and 6 Necromancer. Use the bg3.wiki/wiki/Warped_Headband_of_Intellect and bg3.wiki/wiki/Gloves_of_the_Balanced_Hands and you're good to go!
How did you pass up using the Sussur Sickle for this?
I listed it as an alternative in the description, but I wanted the fashion. And since we don't hit level 9 of monk, 2d4 is better than 1d6.
@@HoboZone My apologies, idk how i missed that. I even went through the video a second time to make sure.
So can console get sickles?
Yep. Same method I described in the video
So like where u get that dye 😑
I say this in the video, it is a modded dye
Is that armor a modded armor?
The armour isn't, but they dye is
Malthael did it first, your not copying death from puss and boots, your copying death from diablo 3
Cleric of Gruumsh plzzz
Eventually! Come down to the weekend livestreams to vote for it
Anyone know if this build holds in own in Tac/Honor difficulty?
Tactical yes, but Honour mode would be better with stronger weapons.
@@HoboZone Nice, might have to run this my next Durge run then. Thx HoboZone.
what stronger weapons would you recommend for this build
@@ryangerry2197 probably the Knife of the Undermountain King as a first choice, but any light weapon that has more than a D4 of damage will work better. Dual Scimitars would also be cool.
@@ryangerry2197the redcap sickle is the best non-magical light weapon in the game so you should stick with them untill you can dual wield non-light weapons or get good magic weapons
Nice intro :D
How did you get proficency with the sickles?
Fighter gets all weapon proficiency
