The versatile DSL series delivers legendary all valve Marshall tone suitable for all playing environments. From shimmering cleans to punchy distorted overdrives, the DSL allows you to easily flex the sound to your playing styles.
DSL offers a diverse range of features across the entire series including power reduction, studio quality reverb and two footswitchable channels. Combined this means that no matter your environment, you can really experiment and release your alter ego.
My favorite way to enjoy this all tube amplifier, is to boost and overdrive the hell out of the preamp! It’s actually pretty incredible! You guys enjoy the video and check out my other demos for more great tones! The whole time I never used the (Tone Shift) feature it scoops wayyy to much midrange for my taste! But damn I’m a believer that a 1 watt amplifier can in fact sound really killer, and ANGRY!!!

Good evening from Glasgow, Scotland. I realise I’m a bit late to this but I’m looking at a used one of these just now. I’m the furthest thing from a metalhead but your review format (and your playing) is excellent. You really put this wee thing through its paces. Many thanks, John.
Thanks! I appreciate it! My last name is Campbell so that’s cool you’re from Scotland I’m a wee bit Scottish myself and I’m glad you enjoyed the tones! That little amp is definitely worth it for its size! 🤘
Very nice demo! I've been looking this amp for a while but was waiting for more metal reviews like yours. Thank you very much for posting this video.
No problem Will, thank you for checking it out! I absolutely love this little monster! Such a great amplifier. Small price for such a huge tone. 🤘
I'm stunned how good that little Marshall sounds. Thanks for posting this.
No problem! Thank you for checking it out. It’s definitely a killer sounding tube amplifier in the lowest wattage range.
Been looking at these. And this is the best review yet. Going to pull the trigger soon. And you got yourself a new subscriber 🤘
Thank you Scott! Much appreciated brother. 🤘
You sold me! Can't wait to play with this little beast!
Hey, aweome sounds with the pedal modes🙏 thanks for that!
No problem! Thanks for watching! The cool sounds between 14:00 - 15:30 was me using feedback and reverb to obtain some cool droning notes and add ambiance to the tone. 🤘
Nice job capturing the tone. Great review.
Thanks brother! Appreciate your feedback a lot! 🤘
Mad Respect My Family. This AmP Is Dope. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING MY BROTHER. Sounds Amazing your right that little marshal kills
Thank you. Much appreciated brother! Glad you liked the tones. 🤘🤘🤘
Well this is gonna be me first real tube amp ! Great playing man
Go for it! They are great amps! Thank you for checking it out. 🤘
@@AngryTonesRiffClips thank you so much ! I’m a new subscriber!
Great review, I've had this amp for a while & had come to the conclusion that it lives somewhere between 10 & 11 and then use pedals to get the rest but yours is the first I've seen that confirms that this is a good amp for pedals. Subscribed.
Thank you for checking it out. Yes absolutely agree between 10-11 o’clock it sounds it’s best. I don’t even use the mid scoop button it just muds the amp up. 🤘
@@AngryTonesRiffClips do you keep the kids on 0? Just got this 2 days ago and tweaking it to get my sound. I love it so far
🤘🏼Sounds awesome as always brother. I also offer the overdrive side of the gearbox in a single enclosure if the player or user doesn’t need the Boost side. 👍🏻 it’s called the ‘Pollution Drive’. It Slays with any amp.
Danny, thank you for checking it out! Yes sir pollution drive is an excellent choice for those that don’t need the boost. Glad you enjoyed the tones! 🤘
That thing sounds sick!!!!🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Jeremy! It really surprised me once I hit it with a boost and overdrive! Face melting tones no doubt! 🤘🤘🤘
Great questions! Overdrive will sound great running in the front, however the Diezel VH4 2 is a (Preamp Pedal) run it into the “Return” only on your FX Loop and it’ll blow your mind. It will transform the front panel of the Marshall so that the pedal will work as the face of the amp. Try it let me know how it worked out for you. I own all the Diezel preamp pedals and the builder himself Peter Diezel suggest the same. Cheers
i have one for my bedroom playing. Seriously this is the only reasonable marshall tube amp for bedroom purpose. Finally I can dial the volume about 12oclock and enjoy the marshall ultra gain channel while playing in the house
I'm picking one of these up this weekend. Found a good price on a used one locally. I've heard some guys nitpick about certain things on this amp, but I've liked everything about it myself. Thanks for a great demo!
Thank you! It’s a great amplifier I absolutely love it.
I got one and love it! 3 months now
Great demonstration 👍
Thank you
Thank you for checking it out 🙏🤘😈
@@AngryTonesRiffClips please, the pleasure was all mine
Great little amp. I have a 100 and a 1watt DSL, and use the 1watt much more. It is so much easier to haul around. In my youth I would just as well be seen on a moped as playing through a small amp. Today, I would just as well load a moped in my trunk as my hundred watt and 412....LOL. Great playing and review.
Agreed! Thank you for checking it out and watching. I absolutely love this amp, and for 1 watt it completely rips my head off running through my 4X12 Peavey 90’s cabinet! 🤘🤘🤘
I used it for band practice with Drummer through a orange PPC one by 12 with my paddleboard and it was plenty loud enough and it sounded really good I was kind of shocked
Great review with the sound (speaking and playing) recorded on the same mic on the room!! Automatically subscribed!!
You think I can have that good tones with a DSL20(in the 10w mode) at the volumes you are playing? Or is better the 1w for that case?
Thanks
Thanks for checking in out! So, If you’re looking for a home practice amp the 1 watt is surprisingly loud and sounds great! The DSL20 is better for higher volume, thicker tones, has more tubes so it sounds really good too!
@@AngryTonesRiffClips I already have a practice amp, a Katana 50mk2. I wanted to try a tube amp so that are my two options. But I'm only a bedroom player so maybe doesn't justify the 20w
Superbly sounding man! Thanks for the review. BTW which riffs have you been playing during the clean tests? I'm sure I know them, I get some Anathema vibes but I'm not sure and it's driving me crazy!
Thank you so much man! All and Everything I play is original. With the exception of my Soldano demo I played some RATT and Dokken songs.
@@AngryTonesRiffClips Ah, really! Those were some great riffs, congrats!
I feel a deep need for the Marshall 1watt DSL head
A friend has the 20 watt one n the clean we get from it rivals the chimey Vox signature chime.
Honest!
I actually preferred the marshall alone, but the od'd one, hit the mark🤘
It definitely shows it fangs hit with my Signature overdrive! Great tones straight out of the box too!
This review made me get this amp. Looking for a cab for it too. What pedal are you using to boost it? Im going to get the Green Day pedal for this but your pedal sounds soooo sick!!
That’s so rad! Thank you for watching and yes it’s such a killer little amp! I’m using my signature boost/overdrive in this video it’s called the Gear Box from Noise Pollution Pedals! They do business through Facebook as Noise Pollution Pedals. Danny builds the sickest pedals! 🤘
There's a Marshall 1x12 16 ohm cabinet built to partner this head, and it's not that expensive.
❤awesomeness!
hey man!! great video!! can this thing hang with a 7 string guitar with a tube screamer style OD?
Yep! All day brother. 🤘🤘🤘
Nice RGA42FM in blue hanging behind you. I have one just like it. Killer guitar for not much money.
I love that guitar! Thank you for watching. 🤘
great demo and tight riffing, you just sold one :)
Much appreciated brother thank you for sharing your kind words!
I believe your sound was simply a mic in your room and not produced thru your computer and various softwares. If that is the case, then this is a true review. Most reviewers don’t share true amp tone as they mix things with various mics, etc. sounds great, but it’s a lie. Therefore, I think I have to subscribe. I appreciate the true sound of your review.
This comment made my day! Thank you. Much appreciated! That is the whole point of my channel. Raw, real, and authentic tones. No post EQ or any studio tricks. It’s just me, my guitar and the amp. All room tones are captured with a RØDE shotgun condenser microphone for a true and honest quality audio experience. Thank you for such kind words and subscribing. Cheers from Nashville 🤘
Awesome, brother!
Im divided between the 1w combo or that head with the Mx112... But the combo its a lot cheapeer. Whats your advice?
Cheers from Portugal 🤘🍺🇵🇹
I prefer the actual head. Combo isn’t bad I just prefer using my separate cabinet it sounds better.
Great vid. What was your eq settings on the amp?
Thanks for watching! Not sure I remember… Usually that’s stated in my video. I believe I was running with no contour button (non scooped) with Bass around 3 midrange around 1-2, and Treble at 3ish. Ultra gain knob at just under 12 o’clock around 11 sounded the tightest and most articulate. 🤘
Good review. You were selling your pedal pretty hard. Surprised not to find a link for it in the description.
Much appreciated brother thanks! Yeah he only sells that ripping dual overdrive on Facebook here. facebook.com/DCrider73?mibextid=LQQJ4d
Which speaker do you prefer with this head. I normally prefer greenbacks. But would a V30 be better in your opinion
Greenbacks are excellent I just prefer vintage 30’s for the midrange aggression because this little amp can be a bit warm with too much bass or can become brittle with the scooped switch engaged. I use it without that switch it just has more life to it with much better feel for a killer small tube amp.
Hi, First time watcher and new subscriber here...... What is the overall resistance of the cab you're using for this demo. Marketing material says 16ohm load only but I'd like to run it into a 2x12" vertical cab and most of what I'm seeing are 8ohm setups there. Thanks for the info, I'd hate to buy myself a new head and hurt something using insufficient load.
Thank you for enjoying this video and for subscribing Keith! This is a Peavey 90’s cabinet with 2 Celestion G12T 75’s and 2 Sheffield 1290 75’s. The 4X12 cabinet is switchable from mono to stereo operation, and is rated for 16 ohms mono, or 8 ohms per-side stereo. I hope that helps.
@@AngryTonesRiffClips That definitely helps. Thanks so much!
I use the dsl1hr with 2 1936 8 ohm cabs in serie, with a palmer cab merger total load is 16 ohm then.
Could this amp run into a Boss Waza Speaker? It’s the speaker in the Boss Katana Artist MKll
I’m not sure. I don’t have experience with the Boss Katana MKII however it’s designed for a speaker cabinet that can run 16 OHM
Great demo man! This sounds unbelievable for a 1 watt ...so, does the 20 watt flat out kill?!?!
20 watt is incredible too! A little more bottom end being it’s got 2 EL34 power tubes. The whole DSL line up is just fantastic!
The 20 watt is great as well. It definitely has more bass, enough that I really didn’t feel the need to use the resonance knob very much. The only issue is it’s a Marshall so it needs to be cranked to get the best tones and this thing gets loud. It’s great for gigging but if your a home/studio guy the 1 watt will suit you better.
How do you think, if the reverb knob is turned to "0" does it mean that there's no digital signal at all or it's still digital before the main amplifier?
Doesn’t respond like digital signal at all and even with reverb switch engaged it’s a sweet spring style reverb gorgeous for clean tones
@@AngryTonesRiffClips thanks for the answer! As I understand when the reverb is engaged the signal sounds like analog but in fact it's digital after going through the scheme of the digital reverb for it's almost at the end of the chain. And after going through the main amp's tube it becomes analog again. Did I get it right?
The DSL 1 HR has an ECC82 pre amp tube in the power section. Can I try real power amp tubes like EL34, KT88, 6L6 in the DSL 1 HR ?
No only 12ax7 and EL84 preamp tube.
I have it in my bedroom, and is always on 0.1W on the back option.
And steel very Loud
This head is 16ohms. There is some confusion to me about running it through a 2 x 12 cabinet which is 8 ohms. Can I do this?
I’m using a 16ohm 4X12 however if you have 2 8ohm speakers wired in series it will meet the 16 ohms requirement.
I just got mine today.
How awesome! Crank it up! 🤘🤘
Imagine it into an orange pedal baby🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
How do you think this would sound at bedroom volumes through a greenback loaded 1x12?
Absolutely killer, it’s perfectly designed for that! 🤘🤘🤘
I wonder how sweet she'll sound via a Hartke GT60 4x8 cab.
You can't do it now, can you though?
Why?
Because the Orange Micro Terror drips with Sabbath like juices in that set up.
😂 Probably sounds badass ! I play my DSL 1 watt head into an old Japan made 2×8 and it's awesome ! They sounds like green backs and Alnicos,I think they are just awesome !
Dry marshall sound cool)))
Great video, do you think it's too loud for home use?
Not at all. It gets great tones even with the volume dialed back or cranked up. Thank you for checking it out 🤘
Bro would you recommend buying this at $299? I found one basically mint in my area
Absolutely!
What's recording the sound for this vid? Phone? Zoom mic?
RØDE Video mic Pro Shotgun condenser
It sucks there is no option for 8 ohm cab. I wanted to run it via my MB Caliber 50+ combo. Now with a new cab it is more expensive than 20W version but at the same time I want a metal amp for home use only....
Check the Marshall website it might be ok as long as it’s above 4 ohms… I’m running it through my Peavey 4X12 at 16 ohms or my Randall Diavlo cabs at 8ohms mono.
@@AngryTonesRiffClips
The Marshall Website says output 16Ω load only. Where you found that Info that 8 Ohm speaker would be okay?
i just scored one for $50 and have it run through my helix as a dedicated preamp. it is surprisingly good. ive never liked marshalls. its the power section. i have the power section bypassed and am using different impulse responses. sounds killer.
Sounds like a killer score!! 🤘
This amp gets its tone from the pre amp, the power section doesn't effect it like a bigger traditional marshall
@@joshmuz9018😂iboth tubes effects the tone big time !
What is the pedal you are using? Can't seem to find it online search.
It’s actually a signature overdrive pedal that’s only available custom through his Facebook page. Reach out to Danny Crider at NOISE Pollution Pedals on Facebook.
If this amp had a gain knob for the clean “Classic Gain” channel, it would be perfect👌
It does. The Classic Gain is the first knob starting on the right from input. It’s classic gain is a volume knob that’s adding gain to the circuit and the ultra gain setting has its own dedicated gain and volume knob. 🤘🤘🤘
Turn the treble all the way down to lift the tone at high level. Just try it.
Can you run this amp through a 8 ohm cab?
The rear panel says 16 ohm load only.
Use a palmer cab merger for two 8ohm cabs is serie, total load is 16 ohm in serie
👊Damn!!!!!
Thanks Anthony! It’s pretty impressive! 🤘
what speaker are u using? vintage 30?
Normally I use my Randall cabinets loaded with V30’s but in this video I’m running a 90’s Peavey cabinet loaded with 2 Celestion G12T 75’s and 2 Peavey Sheffield 1290 75’s in an X pattern.
@@AngryTonesRiffClips I okay. I really consider this amp. I have a 1*12 vintage 30 cab. Iam considering the 20W dsl aswell. Is the dsl1 loud enough for home use?
If you really want to hear one sing, put a Zvex 2-in-1 in the chain. Unreal. Feels like you've got a 50w!
I noticed the old Nashville sign . You from Nashville? I’m close
Yes sir! I live by Old Hickory lake. Moved to Nashville 10 years ago. Originally born and raised in Orange County California. 🤘🤘🤘
@@AngryTonesRiffClips thats nuts. My bro-in-law lives on that lake in Mnt Juliet. Really nice area.
We love it here! Big change from Newport Beach in Orange County California but we’ve made it our home now for 9 years.
Hi,do you recommend for this DsL 1 ?
All day long! It’s a killer tube amplifier for home use or studio! 🙏🙏🙏
@@AngryTonesRiffClips ok thanks buddy...😁
Isn't that Randal 1x12 8ohm? Unles you have changed the speaker ;)
It’s running through my 4X12 cabinet in this video and sometimes I run it through 2 Randall oversized 1X12 cabinets.
Can you slave this amp?
Great question! I’m not sure if ohms and wattage would be an issue…. Let me reach out to Marshall I’ll find out!
This amp is the truth I got one a month ago and it kills for home use
Yep, it’s Absolutely crushing! Glad you liked the video. 🤘
I'm talking to my wife about buying it though it's really expensive bu our Indian standard.
Grab it! They are fantastic amps!
you should use a clip on mic, it's really hard to hear you
Every review of watched the clean sounds very thin and high pitched.. Great dirty though.
That’s interesting because it’s actually quite warm and rich unless you scoop out the mids it gets really chimey and super bright. It’s a great clean especially for the value. Thank you for tuning in. 🤘
