First off, thank you for making this. Here are the few mistakes or unclear things I found: @26:40 there's a mistake - the home token is placed right before someone places a bid to start a company. I.e. its space is occupied even before the interest rate is set. @28:45 - there's no limitation on which of the two tile actions is an upgrade (if any). The only restriction is that one is not allowed to lay a yellow and then immediately upgrade it. (Also, you didn't make a mistake I don't think but it was a little ambiguous: unless there's a cost on the map, the tile placement is free and only the second tile costs 20$.) @35:50 - note that if a company ever needs their president to contribute to pay loan interest, they go into liquidation. @58:30 - you said it before but it would have been helpful here to repeat, for every loan a company takes, their stock price drops a step. So it's sometimes highly advantageous because you could take 5 loans (500$) and then buy back at least 8 certificates that used to cost 100$ each. @1:00:22 - this is only true for 5 and 10-share companies (otherwise every company's value would go up at the end of the first SR). Final couple of things: all tiles are unlimited in this game and when upgrading city tiles you need to use the maximum number of exits that can legally be placed.

Nahhh, just play some lighter-weight games until you've internalized a lot of common mechanisms. You just don't want to play this and forget things like how trains run, or that stock prices adjust with the market, etc. I'd been playing 18xx for just under a year (maybe ten games actually) when I started playing this game.
Thanks for putting this together. This is definitely how I'll introduce the local group to the game at our first opportunity. (Good to hear your voice again so many months after our games at Chattanooga!)
I know this is an old video but I just bought this game and I really appreciate you making this tutorial. I was wondering, at 21:30, if you pay with the value of the private, it goes to the bank and you lose the private? It becomes part of the capital of the company and the company acquires the abilities of that private? I didn't really understand how that bit works. Thanks!

You must sell then wait until it it is your turn again to buy that single share? I'm thinking about getting 18USA, which I understand to be an 1817 variant, mostly because I like the greater geographic scope. How does it compare to 1817?
1) No, if you're acting individually (not on behalf of a company) then you can sell any amount of shares, and/or then short a single share, and/or then buy a single share of a company that you have not yet sold or shorted this SR. 2) Sorry, haven't been able to try 18USA yet
