Pops is right. Keep plugging away. Some is a LOT better than none. Keep it up.
Dad is smart. Just do it. Make steady progress. At some point you'll look up and it's ready to be on the road!
Great job, Omar! I've got a '64 Galaxie myself and watching you work on yours is inspiring to do stuff on mine. Keep it up!
Enjoy your videos . Had a 64 XL convertible back in the day 😊Not sure why the concern about the fuel tank straps , the old tank hung in for almost 60 years .
Yeah, they used that design on thousands & thousands of cars so I wouldn't be too worried, especially with new parts.
A convertible would be sweet! Haha yes I haven’t heard any tank fall off these cars but more peace of mind
Nice job! Thanks for posting this video! Your chat about small progress and moving forward is right-on! I have a 64 Mercury Montclair and did the exact same gas tank/fuel line replacement like you just did....I havent been working on the car at all the past few months but after warching your work, im anxious to get back at it now! Really enjoy your videos!
Good trick on the filler neck re-weld to make it work :)
Thanks Omar.... You've got a good pops.
Your Galaxy makes me miss my '69 hard top coupe. Same color as your Torino.
This sending unit problem is not only Ford specific. A replacement part from a Pontiac specialist did not work well on my 65 Catalina. It jumped down to empty again and again. Because the float had a wrong bend. We had to duninstall the tank again and put an original part in. Now it is working well.
It's nice to see the Galaxie get its share of love. I enjoy all your projects especially the latest addition, the Cyclone. What a rare car that is!
Thanks! I’m really excited on the cyclone especially since it’s running. I’m close to having it on the street, just have to get the brakes situated. Should have a video real soon on it!
Extra strap sure won't hurt!
I did the same job on my '64 XL, but went with the '64 tank. Fit like factory, and was under $300 on Rock Auto. The replacement straps didn't fit as well, so kept the factory straps. After 3,000 miles, some of it on some pretty rough roads, and the tank is still solid using the hooks. For anyone reusing the factory pickup, be careful that it doesn't have any pinholes. Mine did, barely visible, but enough to pick up fuel over the years. Good advice about checking the height on the float. I made sure the replacement worked, but got ahead of myself and didn't also check the height. It's off by about 1/4 tank. Still better than not having a working gas gauge, and you learn pretty quickly to compensate.
Good to know about the straps, I haven’t heard anything about these ever falling so there’s that haha
Looking good. Keep moving forward.
Great news that the interior is coming. Can not wait to see it. Great job on the fuel system.
Thanks Doug! Should be done any day now
Well done!! Looking forward to your next video!
Thanks Patrick!
Lookin' good, Omar!
Looking good, One step at a time.😁
Great work Omar!
Thanks much appreciated!
Glad to see you back in action on the Galaxie . I just got mine back on the road here in the Northeast . New gas tank , straps , j - bolts , p/u , etc . Received the wrong lock ring gasket so I made one out of rubberized cork , works well . I used ptfe fuel lines instead of rubber due to the ethanol in the gas herein NJ . Keep up the good work .
Sweet! Seems like not a big job but definitely takes time to do the complete fuel system
Hey Omar, Good to see the Galaxy getting some attention. With regard to the straps, I didn't particularly like how the bends on the straps did not match the contour of the tank itself, though probably not an issue. As far as stability goes those strap will hold no doubt. Can't wait to see the new interior get installed. Awesome video !
Thanks yeah the contour looks to be a little off but looks to be the correct ones. I’ve been waiting almost 2 years now haha so it should be ready any day now
Amazing Work
Thank You Great Man
The fuel line routing looks pretty good overall but you want to make sure it's not touching the frame anywhere unless it's clamped. You can get some 3/8ths fuel line and cut it in 1 or 2 inch lengths, then slit it along its length to use to protect the line anywhere it might touch. The hose will usually keep its shape but you can use some 3M weatherstrip adhesive (gorilla snot) to glue it to the fuel line if necessary.
Some good advice thank you!
Very nice you did a great job 😁👍
Nice
Looks there is enough material below the strap slots in the cross member to add one self tapping screw to each strap to securely anchor them.
Yes that might work, I feel like an extra strap won’t hurt
And in Dynasty Green
So Beautiful
Try a couple of self tapping screws in the strap
If the factory installed the same type tank straps I wouldn’t trip on it. I have never heard of a tank falling out. Never really heard of them falling out from a rearend accident although I’m sure a big enough crash would knock it loose but you would definitely have other concerns. I think you’re good.
Oh hell yeah let’s go!!!!
lol let’s go!!
F57B is the correct tank for this car, but it costs more like you said. The F57D is actually what they use in 64 Galaxie Wagons and this may be where some confusion lies. Both of these Spectra tanks have an issue with the stock gas cap not fitting though, I have only been able to use the 80's push on caps that use the keys and don't twist.
Yes that’s correct F57B. I ordered some gas caps that are supposed to fit but they didn’t haha. I’ll have to find an original one new old stock I’m guessing since the Torino one fit
very cool
Super job completing the fuel system. Could you have left the tank on the ground fill it with water hook up the power and adjust the float that way before permeant installation?
I would avoid the water just because it will make the tank more susceptible to rust. The way I did it on my Torino is fill the gas tank all the way and see what the gauge reads. Once the gas runs out I drain it, bend the arm, and repeat until it gets close enough.
Should get a hold of Craig and see if you can get him to build you a fuel door and cap like the one he did for his two 64 Galaxies. They look pretty slick. Think his channel is Craig909 or something like that. Guy's obsessed with the old F series trucks though... I have no idea why when he has those Galaxies and the mustang, a 67 Fairlane [I mean thta car right? why the trucks is byopnd me] lol Love these cars Omar. Nice!
Haha I’ve met Craig before, cool guy
Hey buddy;
I've seen the strap loop through those 'hooks' on some cars; can you loop the strap through those slots 'n then fasten it to itself? I hope I'm explaining clearly. Great video brother 👊
Hi Mike, that’s a good idea as well. I can see putting some straps through those hooks, the slot end is closed off however. I’ll have to take a closer look and see if there’s another hole somewhere to attach
Hey dude. Saw you on Hagerty ! Cool.
What size wheels are those? They look good and I need a new set for my 64 Galaxie car.
Much appreciated! Wheels are 15x8 in back and 15x7 in front
Good Job Brother & is that 1/2 Fuel Line 🤷♀️
3/8ths!
@@OmarRamirezGalaxie I'm Running 1/2 Fuel Line To Feed The 1,000 CFM Carburetor 😊
I have 63 galaxie 4 door. Do I need a vented fuel cap?
Omar so what cap did you end up going with? I’m looking at getting the 57B but worried about getting the correct cap as well.
The original 68 Torino cap seems to work great. I’ll be looking for another one once it’s time!
I haven't looked under my Galaxie in a while. How were the original straps hooked? Are the Oriles ones different?
I believe that’s how the straps are hooked originally. It seems like it will hold but want to add extra straps as a piece of mind
Yeah,l know mine reads less than what's in it.
Try bending the arm, you can get it dialed but it will definitely be a pain
Omar, I wanted to reach out to you and donate some tools for your projects, I’m retired now and have a lot of extra tools from my business, I can give you Craftsman wrenches and Ratchets and sockets.
