This is really her at her best - iridescent, shimmering, luscious, lyrical waves of sound, swelling like the depths of the sea until they climax and break. Brings me to tears every single time.
When I was age 14, I saw a movie where Wagner’s Liebestod was played, and it overwhelmed me!!! I am now 89-years-old, once again, I have been overwhelmed by the music of another German composer, Korngold!!! Combine this divine music with the Eternal Story, and we experience a bit of Heaven!!!
Oh Kremer isn't even close. She does a good job but the voice isn't really spot on when it comes to the top. Renee does it magical with a very golden and lush sound. And Anna Tomowa-Sintow who recorded the opera is the absolute best in it. She does something incredible with her voice in the last 30 bars. It's unbelievable
Oh my god. This. And I knew her CD recording of this aria. I've only come across this performance now, in 2024, and it is such an extraordinary testament to what Fleming could do at her incandescent best.
One of the most outstanding performances I have witnessed on youtube! Ladies and gentlemen, it does *not* get any better then this! Fleming is absolutely outstanding, and the score, libretto, orchestra, and conductor are all in sync with Fleming. Sublime perfection! 4:27-4:49 is one of the most compelling synchronizations I have ever seen or heard among orchestra, conductor and performer. And, from 3:24 to the finish has to be one of the most beautiful extended melodic and lyrical phrases in all of opera. Korngold was a genius!
Im certain this should be added to the great soprano arias list with Marietta's Lied from Die Tote Stadt. What a thoroughly moving piece and sentiment.
I love her smile at the end. You can tell she's proud of what an accomplishment she just showcased. Unmatched singing and artistry--so glad she resurrected this stunning aria. Brava, Renee!
Ms. Fleming possesses a great vocal talent and physical beauty. She also sometimes has a certain coolness in performance. Here she totally entered into the music or it entered into her. What a wonderful performance. Never seen her better. The reaction of the conductor and orchestra says it best.
Renee Fleming is at her finest in this performance. Her voice is in full command of the arias requirements, matched by fine musicality and fierce commitment and delivery to the dramatic moment. Brilliant!!Wonderful support by Noseda and the orchestra. Thrilling!
Gorgeous music sung by a truly gorgeous voice in its prime. Fleming's style in some music is sometimes too syrupy for my taste but here in this ultra-sensual music she is perfect. This live performance is every bit as good as her studio recording of the aria (apart from one small text glitch). Such a privilege to be allowed to bathe in that sensual velvety sound!
This is so superbly done that I am breathless every time I watch it. How I wish the whole concert were available on DVD. Ms. Fleming, please go on sharing your extraordinary gifts with the world. Bless you!
This is enchanting. Fleming's calling card is 100% emotional investment and musical understanding. (Look up her Daphne.) That's what makes this piece seem to be her own extemporaneous creation. For the first time, I believe in this character and in what deserves to become an opera with a place in every repertory.
what a perfect voice from Renee Fleming for a perfect aria... i possess the recording from Anna Tomowa Sintow. each of them has her own beauty. I am still blown away from Fleming's full body sound in her high register... i had to cried...
The whole aria is gorgeous, but from 3:24 to the end blew my away. It has to be one of the most intense, moving sections in all of opera. The building of the melody to the climax is so perfectly done, and the orchestral wave that comes along with it is as powerful and exquisite as the famed Liebestod.
Incredible, unbelievable, intensively emotional simultaneously very professional and dramatically performed, even as a recording viewed on a minimal audio system not to be forgotten, so utterly strange that this composer gets so little attention
What a wonderful singer Renee Fleming is, and what a magnificent performance of this work. I expected the conductor to fly off at any moment but unfortunately he kept flapping throughout the piece, which is supposed to be intimate and subtle. Fortunately the orchestra responded magnificently to what is in the score.
I have to say this again. The idiotic show boat conductor here had to make the performance all about him, not Renee Fleming. His ludicrous flapping of arms distracted from the beauty of Renee's singing.
Interesting story. German Opera in the 20's seems to have been influenced by German (film) expressionism. Too bad you'd need someone who sings Brunhilde or the Empress to sing Korngold's music. I'd love to see her play Heliane.
A great aria sung to perfection by the greatest singer of our time. So beautiful, so moving. Bravo Korngold, brava Renee.

Korngold was Austrian
@@thomaslappas879 He was Jewish :)
One of her great performances. I don't think this aria has ever been sung more beautifully.
Annemarie Kremer: more beautiful
Yes! Truly remarkable in every way! It’s one of those perfect moments that connects us with the Divine!

Larger than life. If I could hear this live I could die on the spot.
One of the most outstanding performances I have witnessed on youtube! Ladies and gentlemen, it does *not* get any better then this!

Simply astounding singing and commitment. A lifetime of singing Strauss (and others) produced this wonderment. Brava Renée.
Praise from Caesar !
I think this is probably the finest thing I’ve ever heard.
Surely one of the greatest operatic arias of all time. A superb performance of course, but it is Korngold whom we must thank.
Im certain this should be added to the great soprano arias list with Marietta's Lied from Die Tote Stadt. What a thoroughly moving piece and sentiment.
I must say, this one of the most beautiful arias I have ever heard !!
I love her smile at the end. You can tell she's proud of what an accomplishment she just showcased. Unmatched singing and artistry--so glad she resurrected this stunning aria. Brava, Renee!

This always kills me. It’s so incredibly beautiful...the words and the way she sings the piece. Everything is just so moving.
The shimmering beauty of her high notes are overwhelming! I just have to weep in order to relieve my heart!
Blown away here .
Renee Fleming is at her finest in this performance. Her voice is in full command of the arias requirements, matched by fine musicality and fierce commitment and delivery to the dramatic moment. Brilliant!!Wonderful support by Noseda and the orchestra. Thrilling!
Bellísima !! Magnífica soprano ❤
Just coming back to this performance after some time away. Absolutely spectacular. It doesn't get better than this. Korngold sung by Fleming.

I was just reading a NY Times article about the opera, and this popped up. I love Korngold's lush post romantic music.
Renne Fleming is a nature's miracle. Thanks God for her.
This is so superbly done that I am breathless every time I watch it. How I wish the whole concert were available on DVD. Ms. Fleming, please go on sharing your extraordinary gifts with the world. Bless you!

Renee Fleming is and always will be a spectacular soprano opera singer and humble wonderful person.💓😍💖😍💓😀❤
Absolutely amazing. It's rare that you find a singer that performs with expression that she does. And the story is so beautiful.

Sublime!

Grandísima Renée!!!! Miracle.
It's perfect - so wonderful!
Glorious singing! She is our national treasure!
Masterwork!
Wonderful music, wonderful singer!
Stunning. Perfect voice for this music
0:00 to 7:54 was the best part!
Exquisita interpretación de Renée Fleming
Fabulous rendition!!! Ms. Fleming ... chapeau!!! :-)
A marvelous rendition of a masterpiece!

what a perfect voice from Renee Fleming for a perfect aria... i possess the recording from Anna Tomowa Sintow. each of them has her own beauty. I am still blown away from Fleming's full body sound in her high register... i had to cried...

Maravillosa Aria y voz
At 5:20 every muscle in my body was tied in a knot. Almost unbearable. Never have I heard her sing like this. I actually ache right now. Brava.
Incredible, unbelievable, intensively emotional simultaneously very professional and dramatically performed, even as a recording viewed on a minimal audio system not to be forgotten, so utterly strange that this composer gets so little attention
Listen to Anna Tomowa Sintow's rendition.
You meant "Kitsch"? What is Kitsch about this? The composition or the singing?
@@andyschnabel5225 Kitch lorraine?

Is this performance at the BBC's PROMS 32 event available on DVD? Anyone?

This is so wonderful. Do you have the rest of this concert?
Listen to Lotte Lehmann - it's the unbeatable version!
a quién no le gusta?
And, to think, in its day, this opera was sidelined by a piece of jazz fluff called Johnny Spielt Auf.
👱♂️😂💙
EXQUISITE!
