I could not agree more. I discovered Korngold's songs about 20 years ago and have been in love with his harmonic language, to mention but just one feature of his genius, ever since.
In agreement with this. Korngold was a true genius. This opera was composed when he was only 27 years old. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Das_Wunder_der_Heliane
@@janebrown6722 I have and you are exactly right. Thanks, Jane. Korngold's violin concerto is another gem; he was a genius (I don't use that word lightly)
Two sublime arias by Korngold, the most under-recognised composer of all. And here sung in virtually perfect interpretations by Ms Fleming. Note the way she uses her stole to suggest the actions of the text in the second, more significant, aria. That music of such maturity and sensuality could be composed by a person so young is, to me, incredible.[Das Wunder der Heliane, opera in 3 acts, was composed when Korngold was 27.]
Only Wagner’s Liebestod can be compared to this heart-wrenching declaration of Love, sacrificing oneself for another, for others!!! My heart would surely stop if I should ever hear singing more glorious than This!
Absolutely gorgeous singing and wonderful interpretation of these two songs. Korngold's music is sublime. I sooo enjoyed hearing these pieces and Renee Fleming
i know Im asking the wrong place but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an instagram account..? I somehow lost the account password. I love any assistance you can give me.
@Cameron Jesus thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and Im in the hacking process atm. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Korngold was the last great German composer. I have greatest respect for Renée Fleming paying tribute to his lifetime achievement by singing some of his arias which are said to be very demanding on the singing abilities of an opera singer. She solves this difficult task with her beautiful voice, with fervor, vocal virtuosity and multifacetism, accompanied by her charming smile.
Ich ging zu ihm is a masterpiece. While not a fan of the fractured registration of Fleming I am thrilled at this as an operatic composition. So very touching in sentiment with the elegance of Korngolds hand. Beautiful!!!
Thank you for the best upload I can find of this fabulous performance of "Ich ging zu ihm". (Lovely to have the, even rarer, aria from Die Kathrin, too!) I just wish we had a little more of the uproarious applause. Listen carefully, particularly from about 8.00 minutes. From the words "He was beautiful", we get the most erotic, ecstatic climax in all music. If this doesn't make the hair stand up on the back of your neck...
The music and the delivery are simply haunting. Have lost count of how often I've watched this. Would like to know what the lyrics are in German. Anyone?
The first song is so incredibly beautiful that I assumed it was from "Die Tote Statd", but no: it's " Die Kathrin", which happens to be my favourite Korngold opera. Its only major weakness is that it gets weaker in the last half, whereas "Die Tote Statd" is great through and through.
This performance of Ich ging zu ihm is without parallel, in my experience. A rare jewel! Incidentally, here is the same performance of only "Ich ging zu ihm" (without subtitles), but extended, enthusiastic - and well-deserved - applause at the end ua-cam.com/video/RPZwTJyRQP8/v-deo.html -
Korngold may not have composed as much as Bach, Mozart or Betthoven, but unlike them, every single piece is a masterpiece of its kind. Not so much underrated today as woefully unknown and underperformed.
My public comment is this: I feel like I've experienced music for the first time- a musical orgasm if you will. Even though, I have a Master's degree in it.
MINUNAT. O ADEVĂRATĂ INCĂNTARE ACESTE DOUĂ PIESE MUZICALE. MULȚUMESC RENEE FLEMING!! 💜💖💜🤗
Fleming has so much color in her voice.💕🎶🥰
Truly exquisite music & all interpreters, Fleming sumptuous as the wonder she is.
The most moving aria I have ever heard beautifully sung by the greatest singer of our times. And thank you Korngold!
Korngold - the most under-rated composer of the last 200 yrs. Glorious.

paperlapip Korngold is Austrian and he moved to America.
Renee Fleming's version of Ich Ging Zu Ihm made me cried...
Quel ravissement!
What a voice......
I came to listen out of an academic interest in Korngold's work. I was pouring tears by the time it ended.
What is music for - if not to move us so?

Wonderful songs. Hurray Korngold, who probably wrote the words as well

Edu16, I beg to disagree, unless you can name anybody comparable from pre-1818.
Gorgeous but marred somewhat by that confounded baton wielder weaving about!
Wonderful accompanist -- extremely difficult music which requires sympathetic conducting. What do you think goes on in the pit?
The conductor's silly flapping of his arms is a distracting embarrassment. He is not the star, Renee is.
