  • The sportiness of the N Line doesn't make it any less practical. But three reasons not to get the Hyundai i20 N Line hatchback.
    First, suspension. Yes it's stiff but it's not too much stiffer. You could drive it as an everyday car and even over broken roads. It will let you feel more of the road and you will hear more of the road too. It's something you will have to get get used to.
    Second, the performance is strong but the engine doesn't feel involving. It doesn't reward the driver for being more connected and being more thoughtful with the input. It's either on or off. Sadly, the i20 N Line isn't available with a clutch and a manual transmission which would have helped matters.
    Third, the fuel efficiency. This applies even to the regular i20. If you are living in a big city with big traffic jams, getting into double digits will be a big deal. This changes once you're on the highway where the economy shoots up immediately.

    Well i have been using this car n8 dct for 3 years. Clocked 40k+ km. Changed spark plugs, fuel pump, dct issues fix. All i can say is the suspension is not something you will find it good for indian city roads but on highways it will give you confidence like no other. Efficiency is something depends on situations, i have got 3 pointers to 20. Performance is something it will make you feel happy always if you haven't ridden the 1.5L turbo engines

    Build quality , recently i got to drive 1st gen i20 sports variant. Its build quality is much better than i20 3rd gen. The door thud and smoothness of the engine even after 80k kms is impressive. I doubt the current turbo engine and build quality will last that longer.

    Hey Kartikeya!! Hyundai should have either not offered the 1 litre turbo with the normal i20 variant, only the NA 1.2 with it or should have an increased output say 130 odd bhp and a bit more torque with the turbo Nline variant..that would have made the N line stand apart..
    The 1.5 turbo that we see on the other models in the i20 N line would make i20 a lot expensive for a hatchback in India..

    This 1.0 turbo is very lethargic, in venue manual turbo, you have to press the clutch twice after speed breakers or inclined roads for it to start pulling, it suffers torque loss because of tiny bore and stroke, if you drive in hilly roads you will hate it. At this price point or less of a hatchback, the altroz diesel is the one to pick, pack a punch, strong pulling power, 20+ mileage, safety, style, etc.

    That engine lets it down. When it gained speed it felt like a bigger alto. It was really good. But when it came to hilly terrain, the engine showed it’s true colours. The lack of low end torque is very apparent. It was much better to drive my Glanza over those terrains.

      I will disagree a bit. Own the car, ran 9000 on odo. I daily (almost) to the hills and generally drive it on sports + pedals. The torque delivery is good enough although rev matching with pedals has to be learnt. Mark it, its a totally different car within a car. Yes, in auto mode, it is lethargic!
      P.s. I have at my disposal a polo gt 1.5 tdi and a verna turbo dct. (Stating this just to tell that we do test the cars on a weekend basis.)

      @@LAKSHAYSHARMAYOGDEEKSHAHaha, you disagreed completely 😂. I was comparing this to my daily driver a Glanza. Compared to i20, Glanza was effortless when it comes to climbing hills. The low end torque is missing as expected because it’s a 1L 3 cylinder engine. In all other departments i20 n Line is a better car. There’s enough power once the turbo spools up. But until that point, it’s a dull engine.

      Turbo petrol its usal even my 1.5tsi mt it lags in steepy hills and traffic in uphill❤🎉

      @@thurules I have a polo gt 1.0 torque converter. Compared to that this feels very laggy and lifeless. Lacks zest. The shift takes some time from first to second. Add to that lot of turbo lag its not even liveable

    I ve had one
    It had clutch and manual gear box

    I just purchased a used polo gt tsi 1.0 , am i missing out on anything apart from cabin features which i know would be a compromise

      Even i have 1.0 polo gt. Polo is soo much more punchy than this. U won't really miss anything apart from backseat space, rear armrest, keyless go, sunroof and a bigger screen

      Both cars are pretty good. With the i20, you've got more powertrain options. Ultimately, a test ride is what will help you decide.

    It should come with manual transmission if it comes i will be ready to purchase it and tuned it to stage 3

    I have to go over around 10 rumbler strips daily on my commute. It's fucking terrible for this use case. Recently, I'm not sure why but it's started making weird beeping noises every time it goes over a bump.

    May be it is good to stop this series explaining why you shouldn’t get one. May be u should highlight what is good and bad about it. There may be people who like it and get it. Not a good series IMO😅
