Indeed, it's the best playing surf green guitar on the market! Thanks for sharing the benefit of your experience and wisdom in these matters. All the best, Dale Harris
Great review, thanks. I've been playing one of these for almost two years - probably around 50 gigs as my main guitar. Would absolutely recommend. Plenty of great sounds, the neck and board suit me perfectly, locking tuners very nice. I find the neck profile very comfortable for string bending. I've floated the bridge with about a tone and a half of pull-back on the G string. I use a lot of vibrato but it holds its tuning well. I managed to punch one ding all the way through the finish to the wood but it was a heavy knock! Also, I was inspired by your use of the bridge pickup and will be giving it much more air time. Cheers.
I myself, own the 1993 Surf Green.!!! JB signature, USA. made Fender Stratacaster. with the Lace Sensor pickups.!!! I also have the Jimi Hendricks signature, Fender Stratacaster. and the Stevie Ray Vaughn. Fender Stratacaster.!!! And two more Fender Stratacaster guitars.!!! 3 Fender Telecasters. A Fender Meteora, guitar. And a PRS, signature John Mayer, silver sky. 2, Fender P. Basses and, 1 Fender J. Basses and 3 Gibson Les Paul's and a Gibson SG.!!! And a PRS. USA.Maryland blue crab guitar.!!! And somewhere around 2 more dozen other great guitars.!!! L.S.S. MY FAVORITE by far is my 93 JB. signature.!!! There's just no other guitar in the world that comes close to it.!!! And the fact of the matter is that There never was, is not now, nor never shall be a True Bona-fide, master of the guitar, such as the late great Jeffery Arnold Beck.!!!!!!!❤❤❤😢
Agree with all you said. Mine is a Surf Green 2014. It’s my only Strat at the moment. It’s very well made and is a very stable guitar. The LSR and two point trem stays in tune very constantly. I don’t know about yours, but I can see a bit of wood grain on the body behind the trem plate in good light which indicates to me that the paint finish is not very thick.
Hi, I'm so sad with the news. To lose anybody in that manner is so frustrating. We really ought to be able to provide antibiotics to those who need them (especially to our elders) when bacterial viruses are rife as they are this year. All the best, Dale Harris
I’m saving up money to buy myself an Olympic white fender Luxe body because white is just a beautiful color and a Strat with locking tuners and a rolling nut is just awesome!
1. Did JB played an OLYMPIC WHITE STRAT in his last gig 11/12/22 @ the Grand Sierra? 2. Did JB ever used a SURF GREEN STRAT in his live performances? Thanks for your answers. JB LEGEND
Hi, Beck's main recent guitar was the Olympic White with a reverse headstock. And yes, he used the surf green strat extensively and especially during the 1990s. Thanks for watching. Dale Harris
You are a gerat player! Let me have a question please! The second tone knob shapes the tone of both the mid and the bridge pickup here. Please confirm that this feature does not take away any of the piercing sounds and tones of the bridge pickup, thanx! I love the highs and harshness of the bridge!!! 🙂🙂🙂
Hi, thanks for the kind words. Yes, the Jeff Beck Strat does have a tone control on the bridge pickup and I switch to that sound during one of the examples in this video. Beck used that sound as a kind of reflective contrast on occasion. The piercing tones are still possible yes especially when using a Klon Centaur and a Marshall amp. Thanks for watching! Dale Harris
I first heard about the original JB guitar when I was in a shop asking about wide necked electric guitars. "Baseball Bat" is what they described it as! Thanks for watching. All the best, Dale Harris
Very interesting. I'd not heard that, but it fits well with that era when he was playing the Tele-Gib, looking to Gibsonize his telecasters and strats.
You cannot go wrong really. Still good value new or see if you can find one that's mint and not been abused is my advice. Best of luck and feel free to write again if you find a suitable one! All the best, Dale Harris
Basic (Fender) business practice is my hunch. The LSR is actually very good anyway so no harm done. Beck has the luxury of using more elite gear anyway, even if there's no operational or sonic difference. Best regards, Dale Harris
It is although I suspect that the 11k pickups are there to make up for the difference in attack (in comparison with the greater attack and velocity of a pick/plectrum). But yes feel free to play with a pick. There are no rules... Best regards, Dale Harris
What's the difference between the nut on the signature model and the one Jeff actually has on his guitar? There is something different about the one on Jeff's guitar in pictures/videos. It's wider.
I believe the neck and nut on Jeff's is a 1987 to 1989 Strat' Plus. If you do some research on the early Strat' Plus it was basically developed by Beck, intended to be his signature guitar but delays in confirming lead Fender to brand it the Plus and release it as such. I play an 88 Plus, best Strat' neck I've ever played and the Wilkinson nut is superb.
I have a 87 strat plus I have a 91 Beck (baseball bat) and a 2010 Beck CS the neck on the strat plus and the 2010 CS are the same. I changed the pickups on the CS to sd Ssl6’s And they sound closer to Beck than the Lace sensors on the Plus And The 91 Beck
I recommend to buy both the Fender Clapton Stratocaster and the Fender Jeff Beck Stratocaster!! Two is always better than one and less is NOT more!! Thanks for watching. Best regards, Dale Harris
Jaques Els Honestly I don’t see a $2600 difference. The specs are the same except the $4300 model says “thinner C shape” neck vs “special C shape” neck. both are 9.5 inch radius so they could be exactly the same. The more expensive model has Jeff Beck’s signature on the back of the headstock. The only way to really know would be to play them side by side at a guitar shop. But listening to the $1649 model on a lot of UA-cam videos has been enough for me to pre-order one from Sweetwater. Just my opinion though. If you do get a chance to compare them, let me know. Good luck!
I haven't played the custom shop version either but in my experience, you get significant detail and finishing touches when an experienced luthier finished off a guitar. For instance, the fret-wire is even and balanced, the exposed sections of wood (such as the fingerboard) is finished absolutely properly, and is oiled appropriately. Other issues can be amended there and then and not creep through Quality Control. I would guess that such details are a luxury and many might not even notice these. The real test of course would be to blindfold and A/B compare the regular and custom shop versions. I am very happy with my regular Jeff Beck model, and despite initially buying it to sell on, I love it so much that I would never sell it. Jaques, you honestly cannot go wrong in purchasing the JB standard. It works with loads of FX pedals and I love the sound through my Vox AC30. Drop me a line perhaps once you've played in yours and let us know what you think of it and if you are happy with your purchase. Best regards, Dale Harris
Hey Jaques did you order one yet? I Just ordered mine (the $1649 model) today. Surf green. Let’s compare notes when we get them. Sweetwater says they expect to get some in from Fender in early October.

Why didn't you discuss the locking tuners and how quickly you can change the strings?
I've had one for several years, and I love it.

I think Beck uses the Wilkinson nut and I never figured why they didn’t use that one. It’s basically a Strat Plus without the Lace Sensors.

Is the bar a pop in or screw in?
I suspect Jeff gets a pop-in, but the Beck model comes with a screw-in, which is slightly disappointing, for me.
Why call it a Jeff Beck strat if he doesn't use it? What does he use?
In the words of his tech, he owns 7 or 8 of the Fender Custom Shop Signature Stratocastors. My ref 3'30": ua-cam.com/video/W4EBBPOr2no/v-deo.html
