I'm glad to have come across this, Zach. I am also on a high fat diet, and have just started training again after a week's break with a view to do a 90km race here in South Africa called The Comrades Marathon next year in August.

Great stuff! I 16/8 fast everyday as a college distance runner. People think I’m crazy skipping big post run breakfasts but I feel the break on my digestive system helps me recovery better

Brandon Whistler thanks for checking it out! I’m hoping to get some more stuff on here soon. Moving to Phoenix and starting Human Performance Outliers Podcast had me put this on the back burner for a bit.

Zach I have been intermittent fasting for 5 weeks and have dropped 17 pounds. I'm a ultra runner and It seems like when I go out for a run in the faster state my energy level is even for the whole run. Not the highs and lows of carb fueling every hour. Thanks for your video. I'm doing the 16-8 fast.

Zach Bitter I'm training for The Jackal Marathons in Tennessee. 5 marathons in 5 days in June and The Dreamchaser 100 later in the year.

Terry, are u saying u had 17lb of excess fat to lose (or more) even though ur already an ultra marathon runner? If so how did u have this extra fat? How and what was u eating before?

This is great info, and explained in a very understandable and helpful way. Thank you Zach!
I've long been looking for more info about how to best maintain my weight while running ultras. This is exactly what I needed.

After claiming the 100-mile record, Bitter continued running for another 40 minutes and upped his own 12-hour distance world record to 104.8 miles, an improvement of more than three miles over the previous mark.

Hi Zach! I recently tried a zero carb diet 2 days just before a half marathon. I panicked the night before thinking I would bonk with no carbs in my body so I ate a few slices of pizza. I even had a couple of gels on the run. This turned out to be one of my best runs ever! My legs were strong and lactic acid didnt slow me at all. I have stuck to the low carb diet now for the last 2 weeks and I'm in ketosis but all of my runs have suffered. Next week I'll eat some slices of pizza and go for a run to see the results. Any idea what I my body was going through? I havent felt that good on a run since, so was my body in transition? Thank you!

The zero carbs for 2 days prior simply fully depleted your glycogen stores so when you ate the pizza your muscles absorbed the carbs better.
