      I can argue that Kat actually choose to stay with him. I believe at that point she didn’t have much choice, she was a victim herself. As his former girlfriend mentioned she was also in fear of her own life. And once you are in the situation it becomes very difficult to get out, you feel like there is no way to escape.

    It wasn’t until I was in my twenties that I was able to look back at dating a 25 year old man when I was 17. He had been my manager at a fast food restaurant. He got me to sneak out in a dangerous neighborhood, he was promiscuous immediately, provided me alcohol the first time he invited me over, TO HIS MOMS HOUSE OMG HE LIVED WITH HIS MOM AND SHE KNEW ABOUT ME, he tried to get me to hate my mom and got me in trouble many times. I broke up with him when I started seeing another boy, my age, and realized how disgusting he was.

    Law enforcement/prison guard question-if Seth is writing these explicit letters in jail, why were they given to Kat in jail too? I thought mail was read and phone calls listened to? Can’t they choose not to give the letters to intended recipients?

    • @mariahillenbrand8396

      I was going to say the same thing. I just saw a program last night where a couple got arrested together and were in the same jail, just different areas. He wrote her a letter and tried to send her a pack of M&M's. He packaged it up and gave it to one of the guards - who reported him for violating the rules - they weren't allowed to have any contact and he wasn't allowed to send her mail!! Don't they read any incoming or outgoing mail??

    • @dennish3962
      @dennish3962 5 місяців тому +1

      Only incoming mail is opened, but not read.
      Usually, in jail, it's a trustee, not a guard, that will run messages to other inmates.

    • @letsdothis9063
      @letsdothis9063 4 місяці тому

      @@dennish3962 they read it all. At least they are supposed to. They might let some slide out of laziness, especially if your letters are always boring.
      But yeah, it's very rare to get any mail that hasnt been opened.
      You are right about sending messages tho. There is usually a way to make it happen.
      You know how lockup is. Everybody knows your business. Some of them dudes are worse than school girls with the gossip.

    • @queenofthedamned5899
      @queenofthedamned5899 Місяць тому +1

      They don’t sit there and read every letter, they usually have drug dogs check the mail and they open them before handing them over to inmates to make sure there’s nothing inside they aren’t supposed to have.. unless they suspect you of something they really don’t need to read each and every letter. They might randomly pick some but otherwise like I said unless they feel there’s reason to closely monitor all your mail there’s not enough time or c.os to read each piece of mail nobody would ever get their mail!!! Also you aren’t allowed to send mail To someone else who’s in jail so usually they have someone they mail it to who then forwards it for them if it’s restricted.

    • @notsure9874
      @notsure9874 23 дні тому

      I worked in our county jail for 7 years. One of my duties was scanning incoming mail for trigger words. We don't read outgoing mail. Inmates find ways (obviously) to get letters in jail. Possibly by working inmates or shady officers.

    • @emmawalters3581
      @emmawalters3581 5 місяців тому

      @MrTitney I'm so sorry u went through that. My comment was from experience as well, I was 17, he was 25. He was not a good person, but it was my first experience of a relationship and I was totally blinded to it. He would love bomb me then dissappear for days or a week and leave me distraught, I suspected he was cheating, but was so scared of losing him I turned a blind eye to it. My parents hated him, and I ended up moving out of their home and in with him. 6months in I found out he was dealing drugs and there was a terrifying incident where I woke up and his the flat was full of people, he was doing a massive drug deal, there was 4 huge bricks of cocaine on the table. I wanted to leave but he wouldn't let me, he hit me repeatedly and locked me in the bathroom while he finished up. I sat in there sobbing and scared, fully realising that if the police came I would go to jail as well. I pretended everything was fine and smuggled all my stuff out his place over the course of 2 days. I couldn't go back to my parents as I knew he would cause trouble there, so I stayed with family he didn't know of and applied for jobs all over the country. I got one 300 miles away and up and left. I was there for a year and rebuilt my family relationship. While I was away, he was done for drugs and armed robbery and sentenced to 15yrs in jail. So I went home. I'm sad to say im 42 and I have only missed 1 Christmas with my parents and siblings my whole life and it was at that time. I couldn't apologise enough to my family, but as upset as they were, they said its all part of growing up and I'd look back and be able to see why I did the things I did and how not to repeat mistakes.
      My kids are 18 and 20 and I've been honest with them about it all and what I put my parents through in the hope they wouldn't repeat my mistakes or could learn something from it.
      Sorry I went on and on! I'm so glad u managed to get away as well, it's so hard to see how dangerous a relationship like this is when u are in the thick of it and when u have no real experience of a relationship so you don't immediately see the problems.

    Both of these criminals have blood on their hands. Glad the guy will rot for life, but am mad that Kat got off so easy. She essentially lured Lizzie there, didn’t call 911, dumped her body, and may even have been involved in the actual murder. She deserved no less than 20 years imo.

    When Seth and Cat realised she had died or stopped breathing I'm not sure what kind of idiots would then call a Tarot card reader that definatly in the picture wasn't dressed as a nurse, but would bring her boyfriend over aswell and all stand around doing nothing to help her. These cases they always claim were accidental then decide it's better to avoid calling 911 and disposing of the person themselves because "I was scared" are usually the opposite. What they don't want is the evidence of foul play being discovered which screws up their alibi.

      @@felixhenson9926 I worked for a domestic violence charity before having children. Many of the perpetrators were able to walk free from court by claiming their partner had asked them to hit them. Asked them to strangle them.
      Strangulation was the highest indicator for risk to life on our risk assessments. It would result in immediate action by police and support services because it poses real risk to life. By having a loophole in the law in which people can “consent” to this act, renders it unprovable and often unpunishable.
      Placing your hands around another human being’s neck in order to prevent them breathing freely, when not fearing for your own life, should always be illegal. You should not be able to say they consented to this.
      If you get sexual gratification from stopping another human being from breathing, you have bigger problems than being the recipient of kink shaming.
      Women who are at the forefront of fighting against violence towards women and girls will tell you the same. Laura Richards who is a criminal behavioural analyst,[1] and an international expert on domestic violence, stalking, sexual violence, homicide and risk assessment speaks about the risk of accepting pain and strangulation as reasonable and legal elements of sex.

    I think people often forget that sex doesn't just have to be consensual. It has to be safe, sane and consensual. You can't consent to being seriously harmed because that's not safe or sane - to say it simply. Of course, people disagree on where the line is, but sometimes there's cases like cannibal cafe where someone enthusiastically consents to be murdered and eaten - that's still murder. You can't consent to something like that. I think it's similar to how a minor could have an infatuation with someone and actually think that they want sex with an adult, but they still can't consent.

    This is a sad tale. The question that remains is about Kat and her involvement. It is easy to say that she was abused and under Seths spell. Perhaps. But, something about Kat in all this does not ring true. In the “something about Casey” case we saw how well a woman (in this case) could affect an act to avoid her guilt in court (look, she’s crying again). Kats demeanor certainly seemed real to me in those court photos. However, when Patti Hearse, the cause of having the Patty Hearse Syndrome, was arrested she had been involved in a bank robbery and she was photographed yielding real weapons in a bank robbery. Regardless of how she was coerced, abused, or brain washed, when the victim changes to a willing perpetrator, this should not be allowed to become an excuse. There is a saying that you cannot hypnotize a person into doing something that is not in their nature. That is, a person who is a saint can be hypnotized to do stupid things or embarrassing things perhaps, but a very good person could never be hypnotized to start shooting innocent people for example as those kinds of despicable acts are not a part of their nature.
    However she got there, something still does not pass the smell test with Kat. She lured a friend to her doom. She wasn’t cowering from Seth when she did that. She was a fully independent actor that seduced and lured an innocent woman to her doom. Then, she continued to help dispose of the body. Then when Seth tried to escape she provided her credit card and Seth and her planned to run away together. There are many sad and sometimes tragic stories of people that get swept up in cults or give in to the whims of their abusers. But that does not seem the same thing as becoming a primary actor to intentionally get this innocent young women to where she was meat for the beast. Kat was as much a liar as Seth was. Kat is far from blameless and should have gotten at least 20 years.

    This story is so sad and sickening. As a parent it hits that much harder and just just makes me so angry. Lizzie was a sweet girl and only wanted to help people. I hope that monster rots for what he did 😡 As tragic as it is that her body is lost to sea, i'd take some comfort knowing that she loved the ocean and sea life ❤️

    I agree with you. Despite everything she went through her age and all she still knows right from wrong, she's guilty, in my opinion. She should have gotten more time and taken personal responsibility for her involvement.

    I worked at the private school that Seth attended before college. He was a loner and just “different”. The murder occurred about 4 miles from our house. I was shocked and horrified to hear that he had been charged with Lizzy’s murder.

    This man is a real monster and definitely a serial-killer in-the-making. Lizzie was brutally tortured and killed and nothing will bring her back. I am sad her body was never recovered so the family would have had a place to go and pray and feel closer to her, but she will live forever in their hearts.
    Thanks Annie for this excellent video

    You and me both Annie! When I was 18 in 90/91 I dated a 28 year old. He was kind of immature because I had to show how to budget, do his laundry, cook, grocery shop, and clean his apartment. I remember how much my parents hated him and the relationship. It wasn't until during an argument between my mom and I, I screamed at her that I'm not going to get pregnant and marry him, then she finally listened to where my head was in the relationship. Things like I was serious about no baby and doubled B.C and I saw no long term future in the relationship. I am now 50 soon to be divorced and made a decision not to date significantly younger than me, I see now the power dynamic that can occur in these kind of relationships and how damaging it can be to younger person and I have no interest in hurting anybody especially someone I'm dating. I've been the one hurt more then I care to admit. Plus I've always tried to be a good role model for my children (adults now) especially with relationships and keeping in mind that hurt feelings can hurt as bad as a broken limb. Sorry for the novel...

    BDSM: the book got it wrong/pain is not punishment-punishment is alienation from the master/mistress being shunned-ignored or not in the presence of the same.

    I’m so sick of BDSM and the people who practice it. I have no patience for their nonsense. This is waaaaaaaaaay too common. I’m tired of the gaslighting. The “no kink shame” bullshit. You need to think about your choices, not just give into them.
