Yeah they are pretty simular, but I think if you had the s22 you probably should upgrade, also I think if you just took pictures that aren't in low light it would look better or identical to the 23's zoom.
If u upgrading because of the camera, then yes it not worth, but if about overall upgrade, it’s worth, the screen so beautiful because of gorilla glass armor make minor glare like matte screen, the boxy and durable titanium material & design, performance upgrade from snapdragons gen 3, AI feature, the cooling system that upgraded make performance consistent in long run and make battery healthy safe and 7 years software upgrade
All they really did with the main, ultrawide and 3x sensor is turning down the oversharpening in post-processing, which was a major complaint and is very appreciated. I'm still debating if I should get this phone or an iPhone Pro which would be cheaper, with a better main sensor, but forces me to choose between a 3x or 5x (on the Max) while Samsung is just covering a lot more focal lengths.
Despite the small upgrade - you can easily edit S23 photos to look better. Raise the "light balance", lower the brightness, maybe a couple other tweaks - then you're at S24 quality. Not worth the upgrade. Thanks for the comparison!
Dear Note 9 we have been together for almost five years & you been good to me. We traveled around the world multiple times. The S24U looks better in low light but in better light it isn't as detailed because the lens is softer at such a magnification. Look at the Tom's Guide sample for example. The dynamic range is better though.
Reality check : s24 ultra is better because samsung nerfed down s23 ultra by software update . ... if you wish to retain your cameras , just do not upgrade your software at all , no matter which brand's which phone.
Samsung should've added 50 MP 3x telephoto and add a new sensor to the 10x one. However, They just copy Apple 5x one and their 50MP is not so good at low light.
Thank you for this superb test between X5 and X10 That's what I explained to those around me, Samsung is starting to play too much with codes, instead of making a real camera phone with good photosites, good lenses. It is confusing: on some videos, it's the S24 Ultra that overexposes. So much that the picture isn't even usable. And on other videos, like yours, it's the opposite. Some have even mentioned seeing noticeable differences while comparing some units. There might be a consistency problem between the different phones.

Samsung, from S7 series have that same camera philosophy and technical system. They are stagnating even going backwards, the only benefit in general is the stabilization. They reach the maximum level ALLOWED to not surpass the quality and interfere with the mirrorless camera market.
At 10x zoom the sensor surface area used is greater on s23u than on s24u. The s24u used sensor area is so small because of the cropping, it is not even half the size of the s23u. You should use the camera tool samsung provides to turn down sharpness on s23u und select image quality over speed
Scene optimizer has been borked on my s23u since i bought it. Destroys low light shots. I keep that jank off. Pretty much exactly what i expected. At their native zooms, the s24u is slightly better. But 10x and higher zooms, the s23u is still king for detail in good lighting.
