To hear a man say "I am fully responsible for what I've done and whatever is coming is coming, I'm ready for it" is so good. So many people hide behind excuses for the decisions they made in their life. JJB is one hell of an inspiration.
Are you smoked out? He's an inspiration!? You inspire to become a lifelong convict and get put on? We don't deserve redemption and i guarantee he ain't trying to be a roll model, he did what he had to to come home to his family, there's nothing inspirational about the life, for every one of him there 3000 of the other no name no face types. Find better role models.

He’s just saying he manned up to his mistakes that’s why he said it’s inspirational.
As ex convict I hide my past from my kids and when I don't I speak down on my actions in no way would I want my kids to commit crime and feel it's ok to do so.. my father did the opposite and and contributed to my delinquency, he he even went to prison selling my drugs. Fuck crime. The work requires to become a successful crimminal could be focused on legal routes and in the end qill brimg u far more success

I was 33 years old when I realized I was on the wrong path.
Started working a shitty job...... but through hard work and being good to the people around me
I gave myself a break.
60 years old now and doing fine. Not in terms of a lot of money but I´m self sufficient and sleep
like a baby.

It takes strength and dedication to change like that, some people can't or don't want to; people with a brain eventually realise that it's a shit existence being a career criminal, and the straight goers that once were resented are the people you want to become! Spending a great portion of one's life in prison is a very sad, that or the constant threat of violence, like you say looking over your shoulder. The quick easy cash isn't worth all of that hassle and stress! Some can't get out of it or end up dead. really not worth it, I've a lot of respect for guys that turn it around.

Damn near the same age as me when I met my now wife. I was on the wrong path, but on our 2nd date she said "you have a decision to make, it is either me or alcohol" I chose her and next spring I will graduate from college with my 2nd degree. If not for her I would either be dead or doing time.
Being a former prison guard I take my hat off to this man for seeing he needed to make a change. Keep going forwaed and dont look back, you have alot to gain and living a life others respect,

This guy was at the same yard with child molesters. So how can you say this guy is a cool guy, honest conversation and open when he allowed Child, molesters and rapists to be on the same yard as he was. Go watch his mouth videos..

I just shared this interview and wrote a long post about it. This man is a good man. He hasn't always been, but now he's a good man. People make mistakes and sometimes live their lives for years within those mistakes. This dude owns up to everything. Jon Jon's story is a testimony of why cancel culture shouldn't exist. My dad spent decades in prison and so did my uncle. My uncle was free for 3 years between the ages of 15-56. He made many mistakes. Him and my dad tattooed the ss eagles on each other in prison covering their entire backs. They took lives before and during prison. My dad passed away but he was a good man when he did. My uncle is in his 60's now and is free. He's a good man now. Polite, kind, and respectful. There is that other side to him and he will bleed anyone that deserves it, but he's a good man.
Mad respect for this man. Hardest thing in life a man can ever do... Own up to his own shit and take control of his life.
Part of the problem is telling people how "hard" it is to own up to your mistakes. It's not hard at all. Stop putting that stigma on it.
This is legitimately, one of the strongest interviews that has ever graced UA-cam. This is an honest man, the result of bad timing and extenuating circumstances.

I didnt relize this was Jon Jon till almost the end of the video, then i read the comments and saw prisontopupose comment on the video and i put it all together. Proud of you Jon Jon. I wish you the best Jon Jon. I can relate to a lot of your story. I ended up working maintenance at a drug treatment facility for a few years and although it wasn’t a lot of money it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Keep your story and journey going. Keep growing and keep showing up
I did four years at 85% in a CA State Prison when I was 23. This guy is definitely an inspiration. And he should be a considered a legend and celebrated within his old gang, not denounced and hunted. Around the 46:00 mark, Ian acts completely shocked that Jon Jon isn't always on full alert and completely freaked out and paranoid that his old gang may or may not be looking for revenge for him stepping away to better his life for his family. He's put in so much work for that prison gang, in-turn elevating their sales within prison and directly making them more powerful within the prison, he was a valuable high ranking officer. He sought out getting clean so he can be the best man he could be and take care of his family. It would be so counter productive to a gang who benefitted so greatly from his prison career with them. what is that telling new recruits? Give your all, until to have nothing to give, so we won't help at your darkest most personal hour but we'll hunt you down while discrediting your career because your disease of addiction and now have nearly lost everything? He didn't backstab or snitch or denounce the gang, He just wanted to get clean before it killed him so he could take care of his family and handle his god given responsibilities like a man. He should should remain a legend like he is. And let's face it, no one has mopped him up because they know what will happen. He's definitely an inspiration. Keep it rolling Jon Jon. I apologize I didn't proofread.

Sounds like he had rhabdomyolysis after his OD. I had it after an OD also, was paralyzed on my whole right side for a month afterward ... But like this dude I kept using, wasn't ready yet, was still shooting speed balls in the hospital! Luckily I finally was ready about 2 years later and clean 3 yrs now. Hats off to this guy for turning his life around. Another great interview Ian

Anytime urges come and they will, drop and do push-ups or something til failure, it helps but sounds weird.

@@GUITARTIME2024I'm glad the twelve step program is working for you bro. It's helped a lot of people I know, my mother included. But I've also know people who are triggered by meetings. Please be careful about knocking anybody's recovery. There are other paths to sobriety and however anybody gets there, it's cause for celebration.
Mom getting me a hotel room.. to wait to go to rehab.. I’ve been there bro. Sober for 4-5 years now bro. I remember times when I checked into rehab.. that feeling of immense relief is so so relatable brother. Finally safe, finally comfortable, the chase is finally over. God Bless. Christ saves brothers

I work out at the same gym as Jon Jon. I know just know him as Jonathan Bristow. Never would have thought he was in that kind of life. Probably one of the nicest people I have ever met. Bravo bro. I've lived through the drugs & trips to prison. Don't get discouraged, being able to start life over at the age of 30-40 can be one of the most humbling & rewarding things you'll ever do. Hang in there, fly straight & walk that chalk line. If I can do it, the worst person can do it!!

I turned 30 on thanksgiving day been to prison twice, Christmas Day will mark 5 years clean and sober for me.. I can relate so much to this story with being stabbed and putting in work trying to fit in, I have a beautiful wife that saw better in me and after being released from prison she was there instantly. I have two beautiful, smart, amazing children and my only idea of how this is happening to me is God saved me!! Not aggressive but still dangerous for the rite reasons ❤

I've been watching clips for a while on tik tok but this was my first full video. Ian is a great interviewer. He lets the other person talk and does a great job listening and asking relevant follow up questions. So many podcasts run on clearly premade outlines but this is completely different.
Amazing story jon jon, you were always a leader you always from day one knew your situation and what needed to be done by you for you servive in prison and for you to make it out in one piece , most 99% can't see the path or have the balls to execute it for fear. You've always been a great man and your dad did what he knew how to do or teach you. You just didn't see it in your self because it all snow balled down shits creek so fast. No you are truely the man. Hold your head up high brother your the most honest person on self ,character, morals ect. No one will bother you bro because you didn't do the gang dirty you just put in work for 10 for free. I got mad respect for John John. It’s refreshing to hear somebody telling the absolute truth. Admitting that he was scared and admit what he did was more because he was scared than anything else. Ian , What a great interview ! Salute to my man’s honesty. He clearly held it down during his time and despite his rank, was able to be honest about the fear he felt . The transition from being highly feared and respected, to be on the street not getting that same treatment is tough but at least your free and nothing is better than being free big bro! The response to the question at 54:30 hit with me the hardest. It shows someone who has experienced the path and knows it wasn’t the fault of their parents and they can’t fully control it. That even if they steer you in the right direction that a curveball can steer you off of it and you’ll have to figure it out yourself. But the one thing different is that your father will understand, and that he loves you no matter what you do. He’s been there. Love this interview. Thank you.

This has been the best podcast I’ve seen on this channel I’m from Texas been to Texas prison never been in a gang, but was a solo and got to see a lot of the politics firsthand. They are very strict like to see a part two much love and respect.

Parents divorcing is a big problem, thats when my whole family fell apart. Too mu'h time on our hands, moms couldn't control us & ended up on drugs. Us kids got separated to different family members..... All Downhill soon as that divorce happened
Dads not being in kids lives are the number one contributor for the child going to prison.
I have mixed feelings about this one. Some of those questions I think you probably know better than to ask bro. It seems like he is answering questions he knows he shouldng because he either feels guilty aight it or is trying to make up for some of that negativity he put out there.
But this is exactly the type of thing that will get you back in their radar. Itseem like you put in enough work you earned the right in their eyes to go do you. Without being officially Xd out or programmed out.

Do you ever run a background check on the people you interview to make sure theyre legitimate? Its a good con because not alot of people are going to know anything about it, but it is still better to be a man of integrity, whose word actually means something. Those character traits are in short supply these days.

So many men come out of prison spiritually changed and find ministries that support tha new found faith, Jon Jon has somehow found a way to navigate pure darkness and evil as though he was protected by a source of love and forgiveness that new that he had that seed within him and given the chance to make the right decision, that source of love and forgiveness would assist him in the planting of that seed and whatever was to grow would bring forth fruit not only to his life but he lives of others who were in need of love and forgiveness and these attributes must first come from within. Go'd had your back Jon Jon.

Wrong.... Terrible Tom of the AB killed a guard. So did Clayton Fountain. Both at USP Marion. Huero Sherm who was a Mesa for La Eme, told the screws to their faces “ who says cops are off limits? If a cop starts acting crazy, he’s gonna get stabbed.” Furthermore, if a shot caller loses a beef to some random newb, chances are greater the gang will whack the shot caller and court the newb.
Always show your kids love and attention but most of all let them know and find Jesus Christ 🙏

This dude is a badass to society. I had to come back and listen to this interview again very inspiring and I wish this dude the best him and his children I love how he ended it saying the truth that we want the best for our kids but we know the reality of life.
