  • Kyle Overmyer served as Ohio’s youngest sheriff, getting elected to the position at just age 34. But his success in that position was overshadowed by a four-year prison sentence after he was caught stealing items that had been confiscated by other law enforcement officers. Now, he’s out of prison, out of law enforcement, and doing his part to Knock Out Addiction as a public speaker and recovery advocate.

Your right!!! His second chance bullshit is bullshit!!! I know a lot of people who never got a second chance with him. I lived in Sandusky county from when he worked the road and beyond. He's arrogant and acts like he's better than everyone else, and he says he wasn't a dick but that's a huge lie, I have seen personally with my own two eyes how big of a dick he was.

Born and raised in Fremont where this man worked -- for those talking about how addiction did this to him, figured id share the knowledge that this man had previously been caught with prostitutes in his squad car (not under arrest, of ya know what I mean) as well as allegations of drinking on the job. His family runs the local court and DA office, and that's a whole can of corrupt worms on its own. Glad he got caught after years of making our local sheriffs office look like crap 👍

Yeah, these people that are listening to this propaganda and saying they sympathize with his drug use and would vouche for his character or vote for him to be sheriff again are downright brainwashed.
There are interrogation tapes of him on YT surrounding a murder trial where he tried to arrest and accused the wrong people. Listening to it is downright despicable.

From Huron County. I commented this. How him and Seth Fry would threaten female drug addicts into "working" for them, would sleep with them, support their drug habit... But when they were no longer useful, they would just dump them like some piece of trash and still arrest them and charge them anyway.

I am about the same age as this man. I know so well about his opiate addiction. I myself was injured and went to a pain doctor who prescribed me Percocet. I graduated to roxys and then to Dilaudid. I was addicted for 20yrs. I was going to 7 doctors a month. I was a functioning addict. I worked in the medical field. My family didn't even know about my addiction until i got arrested. Luckily we didn't have a drug data base yet so i never got caught. I got arrested for a possession charge and a DUI. I have been clean for over 3yrs now. Getting clean was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I absolutely loved this interview.

@@user-od2jn5eh3ethere’s a couple things I used to help me.. 1. mega dosing Vitamin C along with a few others vitamins. I’d share the link but YT constantly deletes it. There’s a short video on my channel that shares the links in the description box. If you’re not into vitamins you may be able to get Lucymera from your dr. It’s not an opiate, doesn’t cause dependency like methadone or suboxone and you can take it for 30 days. HMU if you need a friend. Spent 14 years on methadone and got myself off by the grace of God and by using the vitamin regimen I share on my video. You’re a warrior and you’re in my prayers!!! ❤

Another amazing interview! Kyle is changing lives. And we don’t provide our first responders the help they need with all they see and deal with. First responders should have one on one therapy, as well as group/peer to peer therapy. I know a man who was a police officer that killed a suspect who tried to kill him. But his life has spun out of control. He uses alcohol mixed with anxiety and depression medication to numb the pain. It is heartbreaking because he is truly a good man. And he loved law enforcement. Now he works odd jobs. I hope he finds his way back home.

Kyle, if you're reading this, please, try to use your experience to talk to different departments, courts and jail staff, show them the face of an addict that was one of them, maybe they'll stop treating addicts like garbage in some cities! We've made a lot of progress but still have a long way to go too. In some cities, their mindset is straight out of like the 1960s or something and they refuse to acknowledge even basic science like medication assisted treatment or harm reduction. I've heard of counties where they're actually telling people in jail and on probation what prescription drugs they're allowed to take and not allowed to take, it's beyond ignorant and is extremely dangerous. Doctors did make a huge mistake with opioids in the late 90s-early 2000s but I'll trust an addiction specialist in 2023 over a judge who's never taken even one class about the meds they're denying people! Again, please, as an ex sheriff your story might get through to some of the more stubborn departments that think it's acceptable to force someone off of a prescription like suboxone when that prescription might be the only thing keeping them from injecting heroin and passing away! Sorry for the long comment, the opioid epidemic hit my graduating class and town as a whole like a brick so this subject is important to me. I don't use, I was lucky but I've lost count of old friends that are now gone or in prison and it all comes back to addiction. Some do belong in prison but there's plenty that were just on probation and told they had to get off of a prescription that had kept them off of street drugs, sometimes for years. The police and especially the court and jail just have no idea what kind of harm they're doing and they unfortunately think they're doing the right thing...

As a former addict from everything including Percocets Suboxone and steroids crystal meth, cocaine, addiction has something to do with your inner being and not being happy with yourself and being depressed. People just turned from one thing to another to escape reality of being depressed but you don't need depression medicine you need to fill your life with Hobbies and get addicted to things you enjoy doing. I don't feel like addiction is a disease I feel like it's just people who are depressed and not filling their life for the right things. I think a lot of addiction AA and NA classes I just filled with people who like to talk about the drugs they used to do and Surround themselves with people who always talk about drugs.

@@DT-kl7uf By disease, I'm pretty sure that's just supposed to mean mental health disorder. If depression or trauma is the root cause of someone's substance use, those 2 examples are mental health problems too, by classifying the substance abuse aspect, it just helps to identify that as a symptom of the other, deeper problems. As for antidepressants, they do some people wonders and cause others to lose their mind, all depends on if their depression is actually caused by a problem with serotonin levels or if it's caused by life circumstances. Somebody in an abusive relationship for example is likely depressed but antidepressants aren't going to fix it if their life stays the exact same, doctors overprescribe the heck outta those meds because they hear "depression" and fail to get to the core of the issue. There's some people who should be happy and actually have a chemical imbalance but they're not the majority imo.
AA/NA is great for some people and more power to them but the program is like 100 years old and stuck in the past, plenty of other, better programs like SMART recovery that recognizes modern science instead of the belief that people make zero emotional growth after years of sobriety and will always be who they were when they were in say their 20s. It's unbelievable, that mindset has 60 year old adults refusing ANYTHING after major surgeries when they've been sober longer than they used, a few pain pills in the correct setting will likely not send them back to drinking a 5th a day and sniffing coke, especially if opioids weren't even their drug of choice to begin with but they're convinced it will. Hey, if a bunch of ex drunks and addicts wanna go to a church basement for the rest of their lives and drink coffee while talking about life 30+ years ago, whatever keeps them sober. I just find it hilarious how some are so against any prescription drugs like suboxone or even psych meds like antipsychotics for schizophrenia when even the founder Bill W credited LSD for his spiritual awakening, somehow that part got glossed over when writing the big book I guess lol. Not saying everyone should take LSD but that's definitely something that deserves to at least be acknowledged, maybe then blue collar workers would stop giving desperate, impressionable newcomers unsolicited, potentially dangerous medical advice they have no business giving. I don't go to my plumber to get a physical and I don't go to my doctor to get advice on how to hang drywall properly, they really need to stick to what they know and leave advice to the professionals! Some truck driver has no business telling a vet with PTSD that they shouldn't be on ANYTHING and they're not "really" sober, driving a truck and getting sober doesn't suddenly make them an expert on all things recovery and the needs of people with disorders they themselves never had, that person's needs and the needs of a vet with PTSD is apples to oranges, meds aren't a one size fits all thing and there's a very important reason why the people who diagnose and treat others have to spend almost a decade in school before they're allowed to prescribe medication.

He was so brazen about it that his wife would come to the station, they would empty the box, pull the shades down in his office and take all the opiates and whatever else they could get high on. His officers turned him in and he lost his job. Turns out he was also on methadone the whole time, too.
