    As for the next Dragon Priest, I would love to hear about Krosis. His name is a curse, and unlike the other priests, he's just kinda out in the middle of nowhere. There's of course also Morokei, the only one that we get to "converse with," so to speak.

    • @EpicPrawn
      @EpicPrawn 2 роки тому +34

      Wanted to suggest this as well. Krosis is approximate to "sorrow" in the dragon language. There is little information on them so it would be interesting to see what Drewmora can dig up.

      What about Ysgramor as a dragon priest?
      Co-Lead Designer of Skyrim, Kurt Kuhlmann:
      "If Ysgramor was indeed a "dragon", most likely he was a Dragon Priest - in the Late Merethic Era, it would be unlikely for a leader of Ysgramor's reported stature to be unconnected to the Dragon Cult. But connecting the Nord hero Ysgramor with the now-reviled Dragon Cult is of course anathema to those who favor chauvinism over historical truth."

      Honestly, this is the only "dragon priest" that matters if that is his true lore. A "simple" human who managed to exterminate an entire race of Mer AND topple Dragon supremacy. He grabbed all that he could from every last one of his enemies and used that power to utterly obliterate their existence. If he indeed met the 500 companions and assisted them with all the knowledge he had gained from the Mer, that very much explains why it was possible to commit genocide on the snow elves, and good riddance. If he had managed to use all that he knew to impress the dragons enough into giving him more power and harnessing the Thune only to cast off the false mantle of "Dragon Mage" in order to drive away or kill every last dragon. This would make him the only individual that matters in Skyrim lore. It's too bad they made his tale end after coming back from oblivion. The audacity that Oblivion somehow holds enough power to drive him mad is rather ridiculous. Every Daedric Prince is merely a parasite occupying part of the infinite chaos of Oblivion real estate. In all honestly, he should have killed them one by one in order of weakness gaining power as he went along. His mind is too powerful to be affected by these dime store devils.

    The part of the story about Yngol & Ysgramor's interaction on their ship, while Tamriel was once again fading from view behind them after the Night of Tears, gave me chills. It really did.
    The whole thing about how Ysgramor's eldest son consoled and grieved with him, got him to take a few swigs of mead, wrapped him up in furs before laying him down in a hammock below deck, and then went on to forge the original Wuuthrad for his dad _right there on the sea,_ with only the tools they brought, and Ysgramor's tears, and the natural gifts of Kyne around them...I mean come on, it's _so good._
    And by the time the Harbinger awoke, Yngol presented the yet unnamed Wuuthrad to him, who named it Storm's Tears in their tongue on the spot, and embraced his son with all of the bittersweet emotions going around in their heads on their way back to Atmora.
    Man, that was awesome, thank you, Drew. I was under the impression all this time that I read the Songs of the Return series in-game at some point, or that I'd at least absorbed all of the information in them over time throughout my 11 years of playing the games and watching lore videos, but it turns out, _nope._ I didn't lol, so I'm going through them now!
    *Even Ysgramor cries,* fellas. The ancient Nords had masculinity and the importance of good emotional health figured out a long time ago. So if any of my guys out there need to hear this, *follow Ysgramor's example.*
    I'm not saying you have to genocide elves, but _I am_ saying that they're lucky they don't exist alongside us in the real world-hey wait, what? lmao 😉😂

    I think the Dwemer were responsible, whether directly or indirectly, for the Night of Tears. The ruins of Mzulf proved that the Dwemer were the ones that had the means to locate both the Eye and Staff of Magnus. And whether they convinced some rogue Snow Elves or did it themselves, Saarthal was attacked but the Eye somehow wasn't relocated. I think this means that the Eye was not the real target. Then Ysgramor and the Nords happened, killing and enslaving any elf in sight (they even confused Bretons as elves at some point). Of course the elves that would suffer the most are the Snow Elves which are the most prominent elves on the surface. This forced the Snow Elves to desperately seek refuge with the Dwemer, which I think is the whole plan all along. A magically-inclined race is a perfect subject for magical and supernatural experiments.

    Mr. Drew, another fine telling. You had me enthralled and I was feeling sadness for Ahzidal until he turned to the dragons and then betrayed, even them. He was consumed by his need for knowledge and that, in itself, is very sad as there is not enough knowledge anywhere, in any time, to satisfy one so consumed.
    Well, thank you for all you do for the community and the lore you highlight for us. As for which dragon priest I'd like to hear about, honestly, ANY of them. They all have a tale to tell and you, being the premiere "teller" of tales, are the only one who can bring the stories to us!

    I would love to see Studio MAPPA or Perriot Co. do a TES anime mini-series with 8-12 episodes, each revolving around a specific event in the history of Nirn, beginning with the Dawn War and ending with the Great War of the Fourth Era. I think they would be able to do it justice while giving it a Japanese twist. Or, a Japanese live-action series about the men of Akavir fighting the Snake Men would be very good as well, If we never get a game in Akavir. Really doesn’t matter which of the big studios would do it, I just wanna see a TES anime

    Once again, Drew's storytelling brings great entertainment.
    It's quite interesting that Ahzidal had learned a lot from the Elves, the Falmer specifically. The fact he was able to partake and learn from Falmer Mages after the Night of Tears already makes you wonder if the Snow Elves were only after humans in Saarthal, and let the other Nedes and humans live.
    Because... why let Ahzidal live if it was a genocidal conflict in the start? Which shows that yeah, it wasn't the population of man that truly bothered the Snow Elves. And I wonder if he ever found out why the Falmer destroyed Saarthal, and why he assumed all of them supposedly "deserved" to die for it
    I hope we learn the truth from Bethesda one day. Maybe we can see a short-movie or something that shows the tensions rising between Falmer and Atmorans...

    I'd like to learn about Krosis. Why is his coffin out in the middle of nowhere, with no tomb or barrow? Just a coffin barely shielded from the elements by a word wall. Why does that word wall contain all three words of the Throw Voice shout? What's the significance behind his name, which translates to "sorrow"?

    • @Your-Least-Favorite-Stranger
      @Your-Least-Favorite-Stranger Рік тому +1

      Possible he followed a path similar to the Greybeards minus the infrastructure of High Hrothgar? Possibly exiled and he spent the remainder of his life meditating on the meaning of his words until death ultimately claimed him. He set himself inside his tomb, sealed it with magic, and let himself die on his own terms (suffication) vs freezing to death.
      Exile and dying alone in the mountains both constitute "sorrow" in my eyes; bonus points if the exile was undeserved/unjust in nature, like accused of being a traitor and disgraced but intent on carving his legacy in stone.

    What I don't quite understand, if the snow elves wanted the Eye of Magnus, why would they leave it in Saarthal? Why not bring it to one of their own settlements or temples? Especially since Saarthal has basically been turned into a huge grave, wouldn't be my location of choice for a divine artifact. If they did move it, why would the Nords bring it back later on (as "The Night Of Tears" suggests)? Would they (Nords) really have cared for it? I imagine we would have documentation of that, like a dramatic telling on how and why they bothered to re-bury it back in Sarthaal. I also imagine Ahzidal would have tried to figure out how to utilize the Eye against the elves, if he knew about it - which he would have.
    What if the Eye of Magnus was not in Saarthal at that time - what if it showed up later? Divine artifacts do have a tendency to show up wherever and whenever in the elder scrolls universe. What if the snow elves were at the right place, but at the wrong time?
    On another note: who even figured out the eye was connected to Magnus? And how? Like, who officially named it? It's so strange that we basically don't know anything about this thing, but we know it is connected to Magnus, hmm

    • @morrigankasa570

      Another question I have about Saarthal is during the first era and the Gaulder Amulet situation. The king buried one piece of the amulet and the son who had it in Saarthal in the same area as the Eye of Magnus. Why didn't the king notice it or do anything with it and why did he choose to bury them there in the first place?

    FYI the dewmer were basically using string theory, super long story short, every atom/ energy source has a vibration that can be tuned etc to get it to do something else. NGL ES lore is so deep that to this day I’m still finding out cool things. Also Molag did nothing wrong ;3

    Hi 👋🏻 Drew! I love the historic knowledge of the lore, even the controversial bits, and the philosophical discussion method of presentation. Always have. Also like the way it’s logically constructed in a manner that is easy to consume and understand. I would love you to delve into each of the Dragon Priests. If some have little known about them, they could be consolidated with others. They are as fascinating as the Ringwraiths who were once kings of men in LOTR. I find Ahzidal particularly interesting as a mage because usually the Nords at least by the time of Skyrim, distrustful of magic. We’re they always so, or was Ahzidal’s tale & the Eye of Magnus conflict of Saarthal part of the foundation of that distrust? That endless knowledge seeking driving him mad, could it have had anything to do with Hermaeus Mora? He seems to fit that whole narrative because of what happens in Apocrypha and his deigns on the Skaal knowledge, who also happened to pass down the tales of Ahzidal. If you mentioned such a possible connection in the video & I missed it, it should be noted that my oldest daughter kept distracting me whilst I tried to listen. 😁

    Falmer: "We can't let the Men use the magics that belong to the Mer against us! We *must* take the Eye of Magnus before they tap it's power!"
    Ahzidal: "So I was just traveling the world learning the magics of the Mer when I came along and, well they gave me a reason."
    wonderful irony

    He was possibly the greatest mage; however, his greatest strength was also his greatest weakness. Fueled by the illusory nature of duality and opposition, he was consumed by the 'I' of the Aurbis and the Wheel of Convention.

    I'm still curious why nobody did anything with the eye? If the Falmer knew it was there and launched a full assault on a nordic settlement, I feel like the other mer would have likely known about it. Why didn't anyone try going after this all powerful eye in the centuries before ES5?

    • @NOHTenma
      @NOHTenma 2 роки тому +3

      I think at the time a lot of the cultures were separated and probably kept to their territories. Though the Snow Elves were arguably the kindest elven race to the Nedes (Nord and elf) and the Atmorans (and their eventual decendents before everything went to crap) they probably weren't going around telling other elves about what was happening in one of the coldest and most remote regions in Skyrim. Also I think the script on the Eye was the "Divine Script" and most likely, short of those that inhabited the surrounding region, no one else would have believed it existed or knew what to do with it. And by the time many of the Snow Elves were wiped out by man, other elves probably didn't believe it was possible that man could possibly overcome the elves and the resulting destruction may have convinced them it would no longer be there anyway.
      Given Azidhal's ability to continue traveling and fraternizing with other elves, there may have been no one left to warn them or tell the story, according to the chronological events given here. Otherwise I would find it difficult for any elven race to willingly covort with him let alone convey such valuable knowledge. And once Sarthaal was destroyed, undoubtedly others merely stayed away as it was a reminder of the horrible losses sustained there.

      pretty sure he could, he has access to abilities you as a half-blood can't access, and Half-bloods are pretty powerful on their own right, still its a good topic to explore, while personally I think there is sufficient enough evidence to say he can in fact slaughter whole towns on his own, it begs the question on if he is so powerful, why would he want to blot the sun out? because maybe he can't single handily slaughter one town, much less the world, or is it simply an act of pride and vanity to proclaim his dominance?

      @@samuelhaverghast2442 A Brilliant point plus he also received his gift directly from molag bal do that give him added benefits.Yes we were a half breed but not a great example because our other half was dragonborn like mixing miraak and him together I do believe fire plays a big part as to why vampires remain mostly isolated I know its not lore but ingame fire was a massive hit at 50 percent more damage when blood starved

      Whiterun: yes, easily.
      Blotting out the sun: Harkon is powerful but his court is limited. There are numerous vampires of various origins, but very few children of cold harbor: these, and their chosen disciples, wield the greatest power among vampires. It was likely his Molag Bal influence coming through; Harkon wasn't content being powerful, he wanted total domination of the living world. Blotting out the world reduces non-vampire effectiveness, strengthens vampires of all kind (some more susceptible to sunlight than others), and essentially makes total control a guarantee in time - vampires are chronologically eternal, so it would be a long-term goal to focus their efforts on.
      I don't think he had any thoughts for after the fact: Harkon, for all his planning, was very short-sighted in his fervor. He already has issues of his court killing or trying to kill one another to better their position - were he to succeed in total vampire dominance, he'd have a target on his head from within his kingdom.
      Bottomline: Harkon was a poor leader.
