Hi Chris Brockhurst, thank you so much for the video! I'm a new subscriber and have a few questions after going through this setup. I will ask on your Instagram and or Twitter links. Looking forward to more of your videos. Blessings!
I watched your setup guide for the A7iii when you first got it and now here we are for round two with the FX3 👊🏽☺️ pretty cool to see us all growing together as creatives
Been subscribed for a long time... You really helped me with my A7iii. Just moving into video after 2 years with A7iii and no plans to upgrade... I don't do commercial stuff. Thanks
The shutter button can act as a movie button, and the Movie start button can be customized to something else. You gain a custom button yet the Shutter button cannot be customized to anything else so I always start and stop the movie with the Shutter button and map the Movie button to whatever I need easily accessible ;)
Hey Chris love the set up video but with the new soft wear update a few things have changed with the FX3. Any chance you can do an updated set up guide featuring your thoughts on all the new addition the FX3 has to offer. Thanks Steve
14:30 I’m running the new fall 2024 update and my toggle function brings a pop up that states that the toggle lock ISO is not compatible with log shooting Cine El. I’ve set up my camera as you did here so I’m not sure how to fix this here. Any tips?
Thanks, just got the FX3 and your video was very helpful. I just wish Sony would get someone sensible to design their software. Having 2 different exposure modes makes no sense, and the quirk with the iso dial appearing twice unless using custom dials, it's maddening.
Thanks Chris for the clear & precise instructions. I have a question for an EVF for the SONY FX3, Zacuto Pro, Porkyes Leye are two options I have seen demo on. The both seem to work with tweaks. Do you a have preferred EVF that you use. I'm so disappointed with the LCD screen for outdoor use. Thanks
You’re in a different country so are likely set to PAL. No big deal, NTSC (in North America) is different we use 60(you’d use 50) when we use 24(you use 25) and for 120 (you use 100)
Great video! Thanks alot for the informative content. I tried shooting 120fps in movie mode, but the option wouldnt show up for me. I assume that it has to do with the SD card. Which ones do you reccomend? Thank a lot!
I’m planning to rent one of these, and I won’t have long enough to figure out all of its complexities. I’m planning on getting footage of a lake at night (hopefully with a full moon in the shot). With regard to the aperture setting, ISO setting, and shutter speed, what would you recommend for crystal clear footage with no grain and the sharpest possible focus for everything in the frame? Also, if you set all the settings to exactly the way you want them, will it stay on those settings if you turn the camera off/change out the battery/change the SD card/etc? Thank you. :)
I just subscribed, in the hopes that you will be the first UA-camr to answer this question. Why do I only see UA-camrs using photo-first lenses? Are cine lenses garbage? I specifically am interested in the Sony 28-135mm f4 PZ lens, for the FX3 and FX6. But I only see people talking about the G-Masters. Are they superior lenses? can you go over the differences and help me make a decision? Why would I buy one or the other, and what are the pros and cons? Thanks for not ignoring my question.
This is a great question, in short i think Sony is starting to cater their lenses (especially something like the GM lenses) to both video and photo alike, de-clickable apertures are a big giveaway. BUT cine-glass is crazy expensive and doesn’t boast the same AF as some of the photo lenses (just my opinion) The 28-135mm PZ would be a great lens to go with the FX3 and especially FX6 too, its something i looked at but ended up going with the 24-105 instead.
Can you do a video about customizing different shoot modes like 24 4K and 1204K and 240HD to have like presets on the same Slog mode for different fps on the most pro profiles we can set up on the FX3? I really enjoy your info man, thanks!
Very helpful video, thanks! I've just received my FX3 and its awesome but was a bit thrown by the fact I couldn't see all the frame rates as you show in the video. It turns out this is because it was in PAL mode instead of NTSC (I'm in the UK). I think its worth mentioning and I wonder if others have found this?
@@chrisbrockhurst Thats cool. I thought there was something wrong with my camera at first! I've put mine in NTSC mode now as they're the options I want.
How do you edit and play 4:2:0 10bit? I have a high-end Windows computer, but none of my editing programs can use it. I can't even play it on any video players. I have tried it many times. What am I missing?
I move from photography to videography. Can I ask how can I use shortcut for exposure compensation in video mode? I find it very inconvenient to dig deep into the menu for changing the exposure compensation value, espcially when it's recording a footage. Thanks!
Hey Chris! Just got my FX3 and am sort of thrown by all the display markers on screen. Have you found a way to get rid of the "Av ISO Tv" display on screen without getting rid of everything? I'm just used to the A7s3 display and this one just looks like a hot mess! Even displaying the word "Shutter" and IRIS is just annoying to me. Am I alone in this?? Thanks!
I got it to just say iso. I set mine up just like the video but I hated having to switch to the "my dial settings" every time (I think it's custom button 4 from Chris's video) to use the controls I wanted. If you go to Shooting mode -- Exposure Ctrl Type -- change to P/A/S/M Mode. Instead of Flexible exp. mode. This let me also use the front dial as shutter and back dial as f-stop as well as cleaning up my display a little. Chris said you lose access to those buttons on top, but I didn't...
Hey Chris! I recently purchased an FX3 and I noticed that I didn't have access to the same frame rates as yourself. I recently discovered that I had to switch my settings from PAL to NTSC to make the correct changes. Once doing this, I was still unable to get access to true 24fps, 30fps, 120fps, and 60fps. Instead, I have access to 59.94fps, 29.97fps, 23.98fps, and 119.88fps. My firmware version is 3.00. Would you by any chance have any clue how to fix this? Your time is much appreciated, thank you.
Hey Chris, you may have mentioned this, but I missed it if you did: Is there a way to have memory recall set up so I can still adjust my white balance (like I use a card to set it.) It seems like I'm locked into whatever the white balance was set in custom at the time, and that I can't adjust it! Also, I suppose I could set the presets to switch card slots if I want? Thanks for the channel, you're very good!
Hey man, Thanks, I appreciate the video, I have a question, when you set up custom button 4 to change the AV/TV/ISO... Why is the default one have 2 ISO options? is there anyway to change the default one? I cannot find it anywhere and seems it is stupid that it gives AV/ISO/ISO or no? Not a Big deal but why would they have those set to that? Thanks!!
Great video Chris very helpful. Have you tried using the Dual-Channel audio receiver (URD-P03D) with it? No matter what frequency I'm on, I'm getting some audio hiss in my recordings... any ideas?
I haven’t experimented with the handle a ton, but i also got hiss when i tried it out. It’s probably just a setting, i need to spend more time with the handle
I want to display the clip name label 'c0001' etc on screen while recording - I've seen it done on fx6 but is this possible on fx3 too? I've not been able to find the menu for it so far and start shooting in a few days!
I just got the FX3 and really like it over the A7siii for the form factor. I think the FX3 is also better on a gimbal. It even balances out fine on the Ronin rsc2 so I think if you use you fx6 mostly handheld and on sticks the FX3 would be a good gimbal and stagnant shot bcam. But either are really good. I think if you take pictures at all just get the A7siii for the photo features and the thumb stick on the back vs the top. But of you plan to use it your bcam for 99 percent video work get the FX3.
