For those that have this same lyre issue with it untuning as demonstrated in the video... remove the tuning pin completely. Add a drop or two of nail polish remover on the tuning pin threads and hand tighten back into ... It will clean the dust (from storage and shipping) and swell the wood around the pin for a tighter hold. This also works with harp tuning pins.

It's a tricky one to pin down, a lot of people label it as a Lyre Harp as they share similar traits, and it seems like a Celtic instrument but Celtic encompasses so many different parts of the UK and even parts of Europe. Honestly I'm not too sure exactly where this one originates, but if anyone has any info drop it in the comments and let us know :)

String instruments need a couple days to acclimate to new environments before you actually play them, during which they need to be tuned at least once a day. It's not really surprising that the first one sounded like garbage if you literally just pulled it out of the bag and started playing.

Nice vid, good to see a lyre review, a few corrections..... a lyre is not a type of harp, but they are the granddaddy of just about every string instrument from the guitar to the cello, though are completely unrelated to harps...... @@s.k.6899 Do NOT buy mass-produced cheap bamboo flutes, those will never play anything but shite. I'd say go for a tin whistle, irish whistle, celtic whistle, whatever you want to call them. You can get some for about $20 on amazon, they're name-brand and reputable (Clarke's, Generations, Feadogh, etc) and they're actually decent enough for beginners and can even be used by professionals if you take enough of a liking to them. They also have pretty much the same fingerings that you'd see in a lot of those bamboo flutes, they're really easy to play.

The super cheap string instruments (like harps) on Amazon tend to be actually be made in Pakistan. I have a Pakistani harp, and they're renowned for not being up to good build quality. Mine constantly loses its tuning, and the levers (which should turn the string from a natural to a sharp) are completely misaligned, so if I want to play anything with sharps, i have to retune the harp instead of flipping a lever. I am not surprised by the quality of this lyre at all...

More specifically a cega 19 string hollow body lyre harp
I will say they are almost always much cheaper than most instrument ranging from $100-$250 the average cost for a decently good lyre is between about $100-$150
As soon as I heard the $30 price tag I immediately predicted it will be a dog shit 7 strings (not saying seven sting lyre harps are bad) hollow body made out of a cheap wood because they couldn't be fucked buying the usual mahogany
    I was almost right

Step one find 3 or 4 strings that make a chord when played at the same time. Reach your hand through the hole, circle at top with no back where you can see through the strings, touch Or mute all the strings EXCEPT the 3 or 4 that make a chord. Now you can strum like a guitar and play easy music. ....or not! LOL

The fact that it was out of tune when it arrived has nothing to do with the quality, becasue it's a stringed instrument...made of wood. So even the most expensive lyre or violin in the world is going to sound like shit because its going through the postal service, and different temperature changes. The quality lies in the type of wood (not necessarily thickness or sturdiness), the construction of the wood, the placement of the bridge, and the quality of the strings. Are you even a string major bro? ; )

Are you left handed? It looks like a left-handed lyre harp! I can't explain how, but I once bought a left-handed one as my first harp, and it was super frustrating trying to learn via video tutorial as the notes/strings are backwards. I guess you could restring all of them if you wanted to, but it'd be more cost/time effective to spend like $10-20 more. The other style such as what UA-camr Samantha on Mars typically plays with 16 strings is far, far better. I have both 7 and 16 string lyre harps in that style, and it was a HUGE difference playing with a quality harp.

I had a 12 euro 21 note kalimba from ali express and it's surprisingly really good, allso had a cheap mini guitar from there and it doesn't stay in tune 😂 and I had like a small 8 note kalimba allso surprisingly really good that one was like under 3 euro.
