    Slikok and the boat launch in Sterling (free public boat launch) are nice fishing holes with less traffic.
    I remember when the Soldotna airport hole as a Bush whack back in the 80s.
    Keep up the great fishing!!!

      Thank you. I think There has been less pressure on the river in the last couple of years. No surprise, tourism is down and Alaska.

      @@RaisedinAlaska it's way down for sure. I have a couple of friends who have done charters 25 years in their home towns and the fishing side of their businesses were down by $20K in summer of 2020 which is a lot considering they only operate 2-3 months or so. Almost all of their clients are non-residents.

    This was a fun video for me to watch! I know nothing about fly fishing, so it was cool to see some of the ins and outs of it! Seems like a lot of fun and a lot of work as well. As always, thanks for sharing!!!

      Thank you very much. When the sockeye are running hard it is a blast.

    Looks fun! I used to fish and float the Kenai a lot before I moved to Kodiak. I miss that river! Sockeye fishing is pretty good here too but the fish are smaller. I posted a few videos on this.

    Nice!! How do you like that rod? It's a 12 wt yes? Usually that's the size they put a for grip on a fly rod, I've always thought that would be a good rod... Sage Flite correct? Or did you add the fore grip?

    • @RaisedinAlaska
      @RaisedinAlaska  23 дні тому

      @@roblacitinola866 Yes, it is a Sage 12 weight rod. I absolutely loved this rod and I broke it about a year ago. I sent it back to have it warranted and they no longer make that rod so it was replaced with a rod that does not have the fore grip and I do not think it is nearly as good as this one in this video.

    Nice , way to catch them reds and showing how to net fish. Swift water is a great spot lol.

      Swiftwater is one of my favorites. That said, it can get quite crowded at times.

      Some of my net jobs, in a couple of these videos, are absolutely horrible. I could make a how not to video.🤣

    great video what fly reel are you using

    • @RaisedinAlaska
      @RaisedinAlaska  3 роки тому

      I feel several different fly reels but that particular one is a hearty number 10. Probably more real than necessary, but it’s a good one.

    You make a good point about the weights, I usually have to adjust the amount when I get to the river, since it can change (current flow) etc... day to day, or where in the column they are running that particular day too. What was your overall rating for the READYWISE meals? Haven't tried them before.

    • @RaisedinAlaska
      @RaisedinAlaska  3 роки тому

      The Readywise meals were different than Mountain House, but I wouldn’t say better or worse: just different. The thing we found was the pasta meals needed to be prepare with a few minutes of direct heat, not just add water and wait.

    What line test do you use??

    • @RaisedinAlaska
      @RaisedinAlaska  3 роки тому +1

      On my flyrod, this will seem crazy but I use 100 pound monofilament instead of fly line. It’s roughly the same diameter so it doesn’t cut your hands up put it out last fly line 1000 times over. Then I use 30 pound leader.

    • @cnlights2
      @cnlights2 3 роки тому +2

      @@RaisedinAlaska that is crazy! Guaranteed not to break😂

    • @RaisedinAlaska
      @RaisedinAlaska  3 роки тому

      True for the mainline. It beats buying 2-3 spools of fly line a year. I think my 100 lbs mono is 6 or 7 years old.😂
