It does kinda look like you may have hooked 191K reds in 1 day. Not gonna lie - pretty jealous. Flipping for reds on the Kenai is some fun stuff. Ok, and the look at 11:33 cracks me up. It's kinda like when you go albacore tuna fishing and after you've brought in the 10th or so tuna and your forearms and hands are cramped in "the claw" position, you toss your anchovie back out and it's bit as soon as it hit the water.
It was pretty epic! We've never had fishing that good - it was a nice change of pace for sure, but our arms we're ready for it. Thankful it was over quickly!
So nice seeing you catch your limits both days. Is salmon fishing still going on or is the season over? What boots did Cate get? Until next time take care .
Thank you! It was great that we both got our limit both days! We’ve never experienced anything like that, it was so much fun! Fishing for sockeye is wrapping up and Silvers are what most people seem to be going for now. Cait is much more comfortable now in new Simms boots.
We go with a pretty simple setup. A hook with a bead and then 5-6ft further up the line we attached spit shot weights. There are more complicated set ups with different style weights, spinners to keep the line from getting all spun up. But this is simple, quick and easy.
Could be true! More likely it was because I was filming Cait and netting for her. We still did okay! Not going to complain about fishing on a day like this!
@@semi-wild-alaska yep. When you’re just trying to limit and not have fun that setup will let you jerk them out of the water in seconds. If you’re fishing for fun, which I do, a less brutal approach is better. 😄. Tight lines to you and your wife.
This is flossing. We're trying to draw the line and hook across the mouth of the fish. Snagging is when the hook is pulled aggressively through the water to grab the fish wherever - which is illegal on the Kenai river. Sometimes when flossing we accidentally fowl hook the fish - a.k.a. hook it somewhere instead of the mouth, similar to snagging - but we let those fish go.
looks like the airport......disagree w your fish fighting method....keep your tip up...much easier to fight them rather than keeping it low to the water!! that was a great day fishing....
This is at the Gibson Fishing Center. We keep our tip low and even in the water in case the hook comes out. We’re not interested in anyone taking a hook to the eye. Keeping the tip in the water helps absorb the energy from the rod if the line breaks or the hook comes out. We’ve also had pretty good success with bringing fish in with this method, but thanks for weighing in! We are always looking to learn more about!
One of my tarpon guides in the Caribbean told me to almost point the rod right at the fish and just reel. Have the rod held up just enough to put a decent bow into it. Your line has more umph in it than the rod does. I live on the kenai, have employed that technique on them ever since. Hook em and just turn on the winch Lol.

Nice floss job
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice catch! Which state you moved from?
Thank you! We moved up from North Carolina a few years back.
This video should be titled. "How to Floss Your Limit Of Salmon".
Yeah! Good suggestion!
That's how they do it up there. There's videos of people using weighted hooks snagging salmon. Different rules for different places.
How do you set up your rigs to fish like this .
We go with a pretty simple setup. A hook with a bead and then 5-6ft further up the line we attached spit shot weights. There are more complicated set ups with different style weights, spinners to keep the line from getting all spun up. But this is simple, quick and easy.
Dan, no wonder it took you longer to get your limit. The fish were swimming past your feet, while you were casting too far out!

Was this the 2nd run late July or early august?
Closer to late July we’d say…
The 'Thumbnail' should be how to bludgeoning your salmon. give them the old headache #9.
Is that Centennial Park?
This was at the Gilman Fishing Center, a bit further up the river from Centennial.
@@semi-wild-alaska oh gotcha! We live in Kenai 🙂 Your channel came up as a suggestion.
@@Sunshine_AK Awesome! Thanks for checking us out! Maybe we'll see you out on the river!
What is the limit for each day
6 fish per person per day at that time.
Need a 9 foot Lamiglass Kenai Killer rod and a Penn 10 with 40lb Dacron. Yard them out.
Is that what works best for you?

Is that called flossing or snagging

@@semi-wild-alaska you are correct, keeping the rod high looses leverage... You are doing it correctly...
