My dad raced a chick in an 88 gt in his (new at the time) 91 gt. He said she kept right up with him but he still had a fender on her. At the light after about a mile they waved and turned off. Never seen her or the car again. Always thought that was an awesome story.
So...so...80's. Lol I bought a new 85 GT back then and it was great car. Seven years and 310,000 miles later I bought a used 85 GT. I miss that car. I would love to get me a 85 GT convertible manual.
I have an '83 GLX 5.0 convertible, and the previous owner gave me the original brochure and manual... Marketing must have been a lot of fun in the '80s. No one writes horribly cheesy songs for cars anymore. I also haven't seen a 'driver information centre' for a carburated car lately.
I worked at a Ford dealership (1979-1985) when the GT came out. The very early "GT" all had "SS" labels on the hatch and pass side dash. My understanding was that GM had a cow about the "SS" moniker and the cars were switched to "GT". I think we had 3 marked "SS"
2000cobraguy I've seen pics of that! Honestly I'm glad gm freaked even if it was hypocritical, just looked and sounded WRONG! Would rather they called it the T-5 like in Germany, anything but SS! Would've been worse if the german ones were called SS I suppose lol, talk about awkward
@@sirs_3703 Ford knew Chevy was introducing an all new Camaro in 1982 and wanted something quick to take the spotlight from Chevy. Since Chevy wasn't going to use the SS model in 82 Ford decided to call the new 5.0L high output SS but it didn't sit well even inside Ford corporate so at the last minute it was changed to GT which Ford had used on performance Mustangs in the 60s. How close was it? At least one pre-production car was tested and photographed by a magazine with SS emblems. Note the first few weeks of GT production had a GT sticker on the hatch because the plastic emblems weren't ready in time, later cars like my April production date 82 GT have plastic emblems. My factory service manuals from Ford list Mustang SS in certain cases. However I've never confirmed a documented production Mustang with SS emblems ever being shipped to any dealership.
The '82 commercial with the Casey Kasem V.O. now looks like a parody of what life was like in the early 80s. There was dancing in the streets! I lived through this time period and I don't remember such outbreaks of street dancing. I feel so left out.
I know that's Casey Kasem doing the voiceover and the first commercial. But isn't that guy driving the one in the first commercial the same guy who plays in Role Models?
Was there a commercial for the 1980/1981 Cobra’s? They weren’t fast but I really like the look. Less 80/81 Cobra’s (under 10,000) were sold than 79 Pace Cars (10,478) of which I had two. I’m in a rust belt state and I’d give my left arm to find a rust free 79-82 hatchback with a 6 or 8 cylinder, ac but no T-roof.
I read somewhere that you could order an automatic 82 GT late in the year. And it looked the same but you got the 117 HP 4.2 liter V8. Funny part was they still put 5.0 emblems on it. Still trying to confirm that one though.
331Grabber I had an 81 carriage roof notch with the 200-6, so I looked up a lot on the 79-82. If you ordered an 82gt with the automatic(why!!???!!!) you got that boat anchor 4.2L 255v8. Must've been a C.A.F.E. thing, cause it couldn't have cost ford more and it certainly wasn't wanted lol. Not sure if they had 5.0 emblems, never seen one in the flesh. I know they were black/silver/red only for the GT, but you could order a GLX with the 5.0 and SROD 4spd manual.
Ha! My first car was a 79 Mustang Ghia notch with that weird vinyl roof and the wheezy 140 HP 5.0 and 3 speed auto. Had that horrible variable venturi 2 BBL excuse for a carb on it. Mine had a sun roof and the vinyl on the roof ended right before it so it stopped before it got to the front. Also had the funky porno red interior. I also owned an 80 Ghia notch with the 2.3 turbo. Had the hood scoop with "Turbo" badge on it. Never got that one running... :(
331Grabber the 4.2 v8 were autos looked the same even the Trac loc axel but no 5.0 on fender it was the standard power plant guy in high school had one in 83
That first commercial seems intended to sell something like air freshener but the sponsor backed out at the last minute and they inserted a car. Good God.
The only domestic autos that could outrun it in production at the time was probably a Vette. Look at what they were pushing. It was impressive for it's time. I had a stock '83 GT. It was peppy. I now own another one that has a little more in it.
I like the LX badge , and prefer the LX over the GT any day. That’s why own a 92 LX 5.05 speed emerald green hunter percent original except for exhaust cat back and Offroad H pipe and ford racing 355 gears with a Hurst short throw competition series all . Correct bolt on’s
Now they just hire someone with computer skills to make fake car ads not even commercials any more. back then they hired actors, singers, dancers closed off roads to film and went to test tracks-and those cars actually LAST!!
That was at a rated 157 hp for the 5.0. It helped that those cars were light - just under 3,000 lbs. The thing with new cars is even the little ones weigh 3,500 lbs. A lot safer though, I imagine.
That first commercial . . . oh my how ridiculous to choreograph a musical number to sell a car like that. The '82 GT looked great, but that commercial is cringe-worthy now.
My pop tried to give me a 84 mustang imma fix that car and you can drive it Nope DON'T want it. Id rather have that 74 Lincoln Mark 5. 80s cars is SO not cool
Fernando Rocha, I just bought a 92 LX 5.0 Hatchback. In 88 I bought a brand new one but totaled it in 97. So 20 years later and a year of looking and searching I found a beauty. P.S. You have good taste:}
My Favorite is the Front Nose of the 85 & 86 Had my 1986 since 1994 i will Never get rid of it. Granted it's a Drag Radial Car now. Through Out the years it has seen a Variety of Ford Engines. Currently running a 521 Stroked BBF. It Will ALWAYS be Ford Powered, No LS Swaps here !!!
“The Boss is Back” is the best advertising tag line of my lifetime. First thing i I think of every time I see a Mustang GT.
"The BOSS is back. This time, it's wearing a badge." Epic cop moment
I grew up in and around Fox body Five Ohs. TOTAL memory rush. Thanks for posting!!!! : )
I owned a:
1979 5.0 Ghia
1985 5-speed GT T-Tops
1986 SVO
1992 5-Speed LX 5.0
Miss them all. But miss the SVO the most.
I had way too much fun driving my 88 GT in my younger days!
My dad raced a chick in an 88 gt in his (new at the time) 91 gt. He said she kept right up with him but he still had a fender on her. At the light after about a mile they waved and turned off. Never seen her or the car again. Always thought that was an awesome story.
In mr mom Joan had one
@@marioiacolucci that's such a legendary underrated movie
@@finaloverclock6469 which one I forgot help dude
NICE! I had an 88 GT with T-Tops and of course a manual. 😁
Owned several 5.0’s Foxbody’s...unbelievably reliable and fast!
So...so...80's. Lol I bought a new 85 GT back then and it was great car. Seven years and 310,000 miles later I bought a used 85 GT. I miss that car. I would love to get me a 85 GT convertible manual.
I'll tell you right now you don't want the headache of a convertible lol
Love the old Fox bodies! Thanks for the upload!
Thanks for posted this video. Mustang Fox Body is my favorite, 85, 87, 87, 88 and 92 is my favorite
i had an 82,85 and 93 gt brand new; great cars and my opinion is the best generation for the mustang.
Thanks for the video....waiting for your version of the 1987-1993 mustangs
(The Boss is back) I remember those commercials like it was just yesterday. I had a black convertible Mustang GT.
I worked at a Ford dealership (1979-1985) when the GT came out.
The very early "GT" all had "SS" labels on the hatch and pass side dash.

I haven’t been able to find anything about this online, are there any websites I could into this further with?

The 1980’s women with the hair looked better then any other generation. 👍
I had a 1985 black convertible GT Mustang. I loved that car.
have a 85 GT, the two speed fan still works sometimes
Was that Irene Cara in the first commercial?
This last commercial of Mustang 86 is my favorite, very nice, cool and funny
Great video brought me lots of good OL' memories. Five point O
01:45 boss is back with a badge
In 1982 Ford was targeting the male hairdresser market.
D'yer Maker The movie Fame was very popular in 1982. This commercial is basically a clip from that film.
The '82 commercial with the Casey Kasem V.O. now looks like a parody of what life was like in the early 80s. There was dancing in the streets! I lived through this time period and I don't remember such outbreaks of street dancing. I feel so left out.
Is that Irene Cara ?
Who performed the hit songs “Fame” and “Flashdance (What a Feeling)”? Yes.
The 80's were the best years.
This Mustang 1980s is the bests
I recall a Mustang GT commercial featuring the race car legend Jackie Stewart...anyone remember that?
Awesome video!
Is that Casey Kasem's voice in the first commercial?
Know Bodies Full why yes it is
Wow The first commercial if I would’ve saw that back then I would’ve never owned a fox body .
Wow what a flash back to the 80's LOL
Very nice this commercials of Mustang 80s
I know that's Casey Kasem doing the voiceover and the first commercial. But isn't that guy driving the one in the first commercial the same guy who plays in Role Models?
I wish they imported these Foxbodies to AUS back in the day! I love 'em
175 hp in 1983! Just think, today's Mustangs have four-cylinder engines putting out almost TWICE that amount of horsepower!
You noticed they don't show alot of the trunk bodys
I loved my 85 convertible!

Guessing the red 82 in the first commercial is a pre production model since I have never seen an 82 GT missing the fake scoop and 5.0 emblems.
yeah, first thing I noticed as well. Didn't have the marchal covers on the fogs either.

That's Casey Kasem, man I miss that voice.
Jordan Miller me too I liked Casey Kasem he was also the voice of NBC I hope you will reply to this
I was real happy when I bought a used 83 and it didn't have those funky rims like in the first commercial.I was never a fan of those rims.
I bought an 82 GT $10500.00 4 speed 3 speed W/OD 2 bbl carb 157 hp 😅
That second video did they really blow us in da dust tho ?
That first commercial made me want to throw up
That first commercial seems intended to sell something like air freshener but the sponsor backed out at the last minute and they inserted a car. Good God.
🎵🎵Look out world....here comes Ford 🎵🎵
Have you driven a Ford lately?
Were we ever corny back in the 80 s lol. Those were the days.
ford had to counter the new 82 camaro and its z28 package and the mustang gt was the answer to gm's 82 camaro z28.
85 to 93 foxes are the best looking in my opinion
Great!
175 hp? wow, i get that from my 1998 sentra.
Sentra back then had 70 HP

Ah, the days when everyone wanted a sports car instead of an ugly SUV tank like today.
Was everything boss lol
0:00 *Mustang The Musical*
The boss in 1983 was Bruce Springsteen if I recall
Tony Montana
I'd love to have a bone stock 85 GT with a Coyote V8
Cheaper to replace rims and tires then it was to by a set tires !
Casey Casen
The mens shorts back then were disgusting. lol
Had an '83 GT, "The Beast" that I miss dearly.
Some God-awful corny commercials. That first one is the gayest thing I've ever seen.
best decade ever.
All the mustang crash memes came from that 1st one,"look out!"
I’m selling my 302 now
i wonder how many people walked into a Ford dealership and asked to test drive the Ford Lately? :D
Gotta love those Five Point Slow's
Casey Kasem
0 to 55mph in just 7.3 seconds .. thats quicker than a Toyota Prius
That was at a rated 157 hp for the 5.0. It helped that those cars were light - just under 3,000 lbs.

So the 1984 Mustang svo was fuel injected. The government should have force automakers to put fuel injection on all v8s in 1980.
First one is the worst commercial anyone could ever think of
That very first one was cringe worthy😑
00:45 super Uber gay
Lame commercials from that era. Bad Choreography.😩
junkstang
Oh? These Mustangs were WONDERFUL cars!
