Description of Ford Truck taken from Wikipedia "The Ford F-Series is a series of light-duty trucks and medium-duty trucks (Class 2-7) that have been marketed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company since 1948. While most variants of the F-Series trucks are full-size pickup trucks, the F-Series also includes chassis cab trucks and commercial vehicles.
The most popular version of the F-Series is the Ford F-150, produced in thirteen different generations. It has been the best-selling vehicle in the United States since 1981 and the best-selling pickup since 1977.[1][2] It is also the best selling vehicle in Canada.[3]
In 1999, to bridge the gap between the pickup line and the medium-duty trucks, the F-250 and F-350 were redesigned separately with the introduction of the Ford Super Duty series. Currently, the F-Series includes the F-150, the Super Duty (F-250 through F-550), and F-650 and F-750 Super Duty medium-duty commercial trucks.
Through rebadging, the F-Series has sold through all three divisions of Ford Motor Company in North America. The Mercury M-Series was sold in Canada from 1946 to 1968 due to the limited dealership network in rural areas. The Lincoln Blackwood and Lincoln Mark LT were rebadged versions of the Ford F-150 sold during the 2000s as Lincoln attempted to market a luxury pickup truck."l .

Jez someone is salty. Aerodynamics is the properties of a solid object regarding the manner in which air flows around it. Maybe the 1980s Ford trucks are more aerodynamic than older models, but it's funny because it's not at all aerodynamic by today's standards.

Thats like a crime in the truck community! Fords v6 makes more horsepower and torque than a chevy 5.3! Chevy needs to step up their game alot and start by making a truck that’s affordable, good dyno numbers and reliable! Commercials WAY over estimated fuel economy in those days for some reason, I had a 1990 F-150 with a 302 V8 as my first truck in high school back in 2004 an don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved the truck, but fuel efficient it was not, city mpg was around 13ish and on the highway 15mpg was pretty normal, 16 was doable with a slight tailwind, and it only did that good because it had the AOD 4-Speed auto overdrive transmission, had a friend who had a nearly identical 302 powered 1987 model with the C6 3-Speed auto and his mileage on the highway sometimes in the single digits.

    • @robertmckeown3014

    • @100percentSNAFU
      @100percentSNAFU 4 роки тому +2

But it really didn't. The testing for fuel economy back then was B.S. Hence why you see the later models boasting a much lower fuel economy. It's not because the technology got worse on the vehicles, it's because the testing standards got more strict.

@@nathanmcdonald610 That actually isn't terrible for that truck. Heck, my 2103 Frontier V6 only gets about 18-19. You might scratch 20-21 in straight highway miles. Gets closer to 16 in the snow. The manufacturer lists it as 18/26. No way you could even get close to that with A/T tires, which I have. Maybe, MAYBE with shallow tread summer road tires on straight highway usage on cruise control pegged right at 65 you could get 26 mpg. Maybe. Trucks just get lousy mileage and everyone knows that so I don't know why manufacturers try to fool people.

Dr.P_Games Vehicles today are not only overpriced but they look hideous and ugly, so complicated to work on, made out of plastic, and lack soul and character as well and I seriously doubt they'll outlast my 96 Ford F150 with 5.0L (302) Windsor V8.

It wasnt fake. This was before CGI work was reasonably priced enough to use for commercials.
Naturally, they secured the other truck to the Ford. Also likely that the chevy had no engine or transmission, there is no way that even the f350 suspension would have been able to handle the 4000+ lb chevy without sagging to the bumpstops....not even gonna mention how top heavy it would have been.
Still very cool advertising especially considering how corny commercials really were back then. As far as the towing goes, you can pull just about anything on a flat surface with just about anything. Witness the strongman competitions where one 300lb man pulls an 80000lb truck. So a 5000lb ford pickup pulling 48000lb worth of chevy pickups is no problem....but stopping is the problem. :)
You could have pulled those 12 chevys with a bicycle if you geared it down low enough and had good leg muscles lol

These are interesting commercials....they were actually enjoyable to watch.
The fact that it was really done and not made with a green screen and a computer is so refreshing, despite how unrealistic it really is.
There is no way a stock F series, even the F350, would be able to safely amd comfortably carry a 3800lb chevy pickup on top of the bed rails....i have the feeling that the chevy was a bare body and chassis. It was still heavy as the fords body flex proves, but not that heavy.
Another of these shows a base model f150 carrying a toyota on its bed.
Obviously the payload was exceeded and again, no stupid disclaimers.
Lawyers werent so readily used in 1983.....very refreshing.

I had an '86 Ranger XLS like the one at 6:01 and every day when I was driving to school there was a set of railroad tracks I would jump...used to get some insane hang time and a surprisingly smooth landing. My dad couldn't figure out why the shocks suddenly started leaking though, lol.
