cant you just y=4-x x(4-x)-20= 0 4x -x^2=0 x^2 -4x +20= 0 then apply the quadratic formula then it would be a little be complex cuase you have square root of an negative number but still its manageable
I can now see the answer to this type of problem, like I used to be able to see simple roots in a quadratic. You've conditioned my mind to anticipate the middle term. I take its roots, then add each to the square root of the sum of x+y. This is new learning for me. It has sunk in and become second nature. I'll be 60 on my next birthday. You are teaching an old dog some new tricks. Thanks and well done!

When you have an expression in the form (a+bi)(a-bi), instead of using (a^2-b^2), you can just use (a^2+b^2) instead.
(2+4i)(2-4i) = 2^2+4^2=4+16=20
