- Wondering if Google PhotoScan is comparable to an actual scanner? I take a look in this video using a neat image from the USGS Bee Inventory and Monitoring Lab.

I got the answer I was looking for. Thank you! However, I will continue to use Photo Scan for scanning old photos that have faded and taken some damage. It's also more practical when doing a whole photo album, because it's possible to get very reasonable quality without taking the photos out from behind the plastic. I would recommend, as you said, to use a proper scanner for professional work or for printing/viewing the originals at much larger sizes.
Thank you for this video!
Please do an update video. Pleeeessssssseeee
I think Google has improved the light reflection removal algorithm. And cell phone cameras are getting better and better. However, Google has changed the app to add a watermark frame around the picture, but if uploaded to Google Photos the watermark goes away.
Tldw: Photoscan distorted the ratio, and had shitty resolution, it left reflection in there.
This guy went pretty easy on Google.
CUT TO THE CHASE: messed up ratio a little, real flatbed scanner will have better details and color exactly as expected. Didn't kill all reflections
flatbed scanner is the way to go and dont buy the
the epson ff-680 will put wheel marks on your photos !!!!
The use case I see for the photoscan (and the one it's advertised for) is archiving old photos such as those taken on film or those of which you don't have a digital version of, is the flatbed better? Yes but google photoscan is good enough
Yes as you mention it just depends on your use case.
thanks
Hi! Thanks for the information. I know I am a little late to the party. LOL. My question is this:
After I have completed the transfer of my old photos to my computer, should I delete them all off of the PhotoScan app before I begin to use the app again for a new project?
So if I scanning photos from the 60's and 70's to current day... what is the easiest way to capture and sort... and is a professional scanner going to make a difference on these types of photos? They aren't the best resolution to begin with. So any other recommendations for app or scanner? Learning a lot from your videos. Thank you 😊
My plan is to scan with phone and fix/enhance with AI
The Photoscanner has more glare, but the scanned image doesn't have the black tones correct
I would argue that the scanned image has higher dynamic range, which would allow you to adjust the tones to your preference after the fact.
@@commandselect1928 too much work
@@chrislocust8245 It always depends on what you use it for. If you'd like the best possible result for later use you should put in some (hard) work! :D (Then the google photoscan app is probably nothing for high quality archives!)
Does the flatbed scanner take up more storage than the app?
I wonder if the photoscan app would have worked better if you turned on the light option.
I highly doubt it. With blitz you'll get even more reflections that has to be calculated by the app!
the epson fastscan done one thing that others will not do
save a digital copy of your photo on your pc
If your glossy photos scans come out with newton rings I guess GoogleScan is the only way to go. You never mentioned this kind of problem which is very popular among flatbed scanners.
why do you keep looking at your watch, it is off putting
He clearly has a date.
As I was watching the video I thought the same thing. Maybe he had some notes he was reading from?
Either way, looks very bad and unprofessional.
Plus, he needs a mic.
All the signs of someone who doesn't do UA-cam for a living....
@@jiggygino2855 Jesus tell us how you really feel why don't ya?
*Note, it's a lot better with a smartphone vs lugging around an iPad
If you noticed: It was taken by a smartphone (iphone 8)! The iPad was only used for the google photoscan app demo! xD
Why do you keep looking at your watch. Its very annoying.
