    🙋‍♀️ ABOUT ME: Learning about your ancestors is fun! It’s detective work at its best. My professional genealogy business, Ancestry Consulting by Aimee and my You Tube channel were born out of a desire to help others discover their family history. I have been working on my genealogy since a teenager and have been helping others as a professional genealogist for almost 10 years. Whether breaking through a genealogy brick wall, determining parents through DNA matches, beginning genealogy research, or discovering your family origins, I want to help you build your family tree! Happy hunting!
    Check out these other genealogy UA-camrs: Genealogy TV, Family History Fanatics, Geneavlogger, Ancestry (Barefoot Genealogist), Genealogy with Amy Johnson Crow, and of course, keep watching me, Aimee Cross - Genealogy Hints. I’m currently at the NGS conference and took some photos at local museums. Boy did this app come in handy!

    Thanks, Aimee. One thing you can't have too many of is pictures of the family. I spend a lot of my time taking and looking at particularly old Pictures. It is also good to take pictures of Documents or anything you need to save. Keep up the good work.

    Thanks so much! I've been trying to work out a solution for my older cousin in a rural area to get copies made of family pics. I'm sure the younger cousins could do this for her. 😺

    Thanks Aimee, I have been using PhotoScan for a couple years now, and you just taught me about some features I didn't know. I would like to add that like any new app, practice using it before you go visiting family, and look at the finished photo before you move on the the next photo. Sometimes it does not create the photo you are hoping for if you accidently move the phone on an angle and the circles become ovals. Practice makes perfect. Love the app!

      Also, if you can reduce the some of the glare by closing shades, or moving the photo, the app will often give you a better photo. Some people might not notice that the phone's flash typically goes on at each of the 4 (circle) locations as part of the photo taking process, so you don't have to be in a bright light to take the photo.

      Great points Robert! Thank you for adding those. I completely agree to practice, experiment and then check the finished product!

    Do you have a favorite family tree software, if you're someone who wants to include all the pictures?

      I like Family Tree Maker. Mostly because of its ability to sync with Ancestry.

    Thnak you for for this ! I am making a photo album from old photos. I am assuming that I can then upload to Walgreens to make copies?

      Should be able to! Good luck! There can be water marks though with this program. You may be better off scanning them with a scanner if you want to make prints and can take the time.

    How large do you think you blow up a google scan of 5x7 photo to? (roughly) thank you for this wonderful information.

    • @AncestryAimee
      @AncestryAimee  24 дні тому

      Good question! I’m not sure. If you Google it you should be able to figure it out. It depends on the resolution you choose to scan the original photo. Scan at the highest resolution you can if you want to blow a smaller photo like that up.

    Thanks Aimee. Great walkthrough. One question…I’ve taken a lot of photos on Photoscan but the data uses heaps of memory on my iPhone. If you later delete the photo on Photoscan to save memory, is the photo still kept in my Photos, iCloud and on Google Photos?

    • @AncestryAimee
      @AncestryAimee  11 місяців тому +1

      Good question. I’m not positive. I have saved it on my phone as a photo and then moved it to another folder on my computer (not my Photos) and haven’t had an issue. I think I would do that first before deleting it in the app.

    I must be a dolt. The only way I can move the camera/phone to each dot is to tilt it at some weird angle, and then it crops it horribly. What am I doing wrong?

    • @AncestryAimee
      @AncestryAimee  7 місяців тому

      You keep the camera at the same angle and just move it straight down or to the side.
