- The best friction saver Ive used hands down. I made it with a few pieces and it is a bit pricey but well worth the money.

Nice work. Hey, I bought a Captain Hook. I used it in the top of a 70' codom white pine to transfer stems. I'm 68 and killin it.
The 194t.....my climbing saw of choice. Mine is modded as well. Light and powerful with the price I like. Nicely done........
I like the way you do that video, nice energy to it, unique insights that I haven’t heard others talk about. Enjoyable learning experience. Thank you.
Quick tip to reduce one handing: set your hinge, then remove the saw and give a little push. With some practice you can get very consistent with it and it only takes slightly longer.
While I don’t advocate “TWO HANDS AT ALL TIMES!”, I do my best to reduce the amount of one handing I do.
Great video, I really enjoy your voice over commentary. Keep up the great work and enjoying life :)
Very smooth work. Learned alot. Always enjoy seeing close up what Tree climbers are using as their Technique. Safety every step, and tired from a long Day.
Why didn’t I just natural crotch it? I’ve never asked myself this as one of the advantages is not only less friction, it keeps the line contact at the same point. There are many situations where one side of the line will drop down and increase friction due to more bark contact where the ring and ring will keep the friction at the anchor point consistent.
Otherwise excellent video. Before watching this I didn’t understand the purpose of the secret weapon and why the huge cost difference was just. Now I want one! Will definitely be saving up for it :)
Sky high adventures with the tree walkers. Mesmerizing to watch and even better with the narration and critique. 😀
Clean smooth and efficient work man.
Thanks for the video, what kind of knee protection are you using, the one designed for sports?
Can u make a video on how to make this. Or is there a website where we can buy this setup. Thanks for the tips bro
Excellent vid... Brother you're a great narrator..well done never stop learning when your in a tree... Continue with the great work..
You have great flow man! Amazing climb.
Thank you sir🙏🏼
Nice video, I love the doble lanyard, thanks! PS: I normally setup the retrievable ball in the eye of the rope all the time (unless I need to put away the zigzag), and then I make sure the rope doesn’t get through the zigzag.
I've shied away from that friction saver mostly because of how expensive they are. They obviously aren't perfect, with what seems to be a little higher chance of hanging up compared to two simple rings on a conventional friction saver. What I hear you saying is the lower friction of an actual pulley is worth the added complexity, compared to two rings.
Yeah you got it. Although I think we have the same chances of getting hung up with both types.
Exactly what I've have been looking for in a friction saver. do you know anywhere that sells it as a made up set? thanks for sharing!
Can’t buy this anywhere unless you buy the ART version.
Always enjoy your videos
Thank you for taking the time
Do you have a video of how you built it ? Including parts needed
Hey man you’re like the Howard stern of tree work commentary 🤪. Nice work brudda
Great correction at 35:15 good saw work
I agree about friction savers not being used in dead ash tree's and other tree's with bark that behaves like velcro. Like this one your in here. You ever use that "Secret Weapon" as an adjustable anchor, like making a hitch knot with it's cordage, applying it to a rope? Not very retrievable with those knots but still probably helpful in certain situations🤔
Hmm I’m not sure I understand what you mean. Could you elaborate more on using the secret weapon as an adjustable anchor. 🤙🏼
You explain very good on your videos
Very awesome video buddy!
Thank you sir. Can you tell me one aspect of the video that stood out for you?
@@chtclimbing 29:09 starting from the bottom. Not just filming the cutting of the big tops. Silky smooth climbing!
What would you cchange from this current climbing set up?
I would change a lot but for sure keep the 2 in 1 lanyard.
Thanks for sharing! What is that friction saver setup? Got all my gear, bit can't figure out how to connect knee ascender to chicane. Need to find a video. Have a great weekend!
Those look like Costco gloves:)
I seen some guys connect to the ring on their bridge.
Definitely Costco gloves lol
I have a ring and ring fruition saver and it always come back down to earth sometimes tried and true it better then fancy but pulley savers are the best for sure makes double rope method way better
professional nice video !!
Were you just not feeling the rope runner pro today, or did something happen to yours?
Can you list the things you used to make it I like that set up a lot and wanna try it out
Good job!
🙏🏼
Awesome video brother
Thank you for the support. 🙏🏼
Are those normal knee pads that your wearing? Kobalt? Is that the brand?
They are but for over a year now I’ve been wearing a thicker foam pad under my pants. The thicker pad is better and doesn’t require adjustment, ever. The foams are like $5 at Walmart.
Is that connection to your chest piece on suspenders? Trying to have some tending assist without using my lanyard over shoulder.
I use a Petzl control rope with my zigzag. My only complaint is the eye does not fit through the zigzag as it is advertised to do so. I simply leave the zigzag on my rope all the time to keep from having to pull 150’ of rope through it each time. Truthfully I am rather pissed that the eye side does not fit through the zigzag because that is why I bought that rope instead of another brand. I even had to cut the shrink-wrap off of the other side to get the rope to fit at all. Shame Petzl - shame.
Great videos keep going keep safe don't worry about how others do it do it as you want to do it, lot of armchair wanna be's that knows better ways and knows it all, courses for horses and horses for courses, keep posting 👍
Right on James 🤙🏼
Love your channel brother. What was your MOS? I was 11C from 02-06.
Thanks 🙏🏼 I was a 25N
Why no silky pruning saw action for all of those pesky twigs?
Is that walkway right below concrete, or brick?
I always thought youd get arested for shaling your device in public 😂
Respect
🙏🏼🤙🏼
Good video bro. Be safe
Thank you sir!
Can you share a link for the items you're using? I am a beginner.
Yeah man new video coming soon with a clip of all the equipment.
@@chtclimbing thanks man. I'm using the roperunner and zigzag plus. I’m trying to develop a good foundation for climbing. It's like therapy.
It seems like multiple climbers are calling their setup the "Secret Weapon". Each one is a different way to anchor a DdRT or MRS system. I'm on a quest to find the original.
Someone else has a “secret weapon”? Which climber?
It’s a pulley saver basically? Because the “secret weapon” is a totally different thing.
Do you ever use the ZZ as the second lanyard?
I wouldn’t do that. But if you’re doing that just create a second lanyard for yourself.
Best tree climbing video seen in a while
One handing a chainsaw has its place. It’s not for every cut but it’s a tool in the tool belt.
%100 agreed
How do I start to become a tree climber and how do I get my license and skills
Skills only come with practice and watching others. If you can get someone to teach you then you’ll become better faster as long as that person is competent. Starting just requires some money and acquiring the knowledge to set a rope and attaching yourself to it and then climbing that rope. So it goes deep. It’s very much worth it and the licensing is really easy all you need to do is read. I have a video coming soon on SRT equipment for the absolute beginner.
Hi canyoner :D (base on kong duck)
Hi , does anyone know what are the best ropes for climbing?
Ropes are very subjective. What are you using the rope for? SRT/SRS, DRT/MRS?
What are all these symbols and terms? I believe that there are companies that make high quality ropes that you can trust, this is exactly what I am looking for
What’s the name of that ?
What kind of harness do you use?
Im this video I’m using a petzl sequoia. But currently I’m using a modified teufelberger 2018 s light.
@CaptainHook TreeClimbing ok thank you. I ordered the petal sequoia but have not gotten it yet. What do you think about it?
@@mr.king2023 its really for quick climbs. The small small back support is the limiting factor
Hey bro do you use knee pads? Do you have ig?
Always
What kind are they ? I hate banging my knees and shins on limbs 😂
@@rylaninfante4344 What I do now is wear a cheap pair from walmart under my work pants. its a basic foam pad with one strap. it works miracles. I feel naked without them. try it out and let me know what you come up with.
Nice and smooth job only thing is I would of not mucked on with the friction saver on the decent of a tree that size as it wasted your time in long run , I also would of either left a tug line already up there or knocked them down in of in 2 or 3 ft sections or even fell them use the skid steer to bring them over
As you free falled them in decent size and running the chipper unnecessary apart from that got some nice equipment and a nice clean climber and I'm enjoying the videos
I'm not bitching just my opinion
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
Is captain hook your full real name ?
My government name
Integrity
Bro you’re 194 don’t sound like my 194
It’s modded. Lol just an exhaust mod
Bloated with gear and no idea. When I started tree climbing we used one rope. That was it. No harness, no clips, no gadgets. It was ONE polyester rope made into a double bowline to sit in, and the four knot system; over the crutch and back to a second bowline on the harness, prussic to running line and barrel stopper at the bitter end. Thankfully things have improved since....I have used prussic / keimheist loops, sliding D harnesses, IDs, shunts, , Pantins, dozens of cambium savers ( a few inventions of my own) and loads of other gear and I welcome technology if it helps. But in 35 years of tree climbing I don't think I've ever seen so much unecessary $$ spent on a load of crap you don't need. WHY the actual F don't you use a steel core flip line for both work positioning and for not cutting through your rope? You only have to fluff it once. Your hinge cuts are terrible. As I said, I'm not anti-gadget or technology, but this is ridiculous consumerism when you only need good techniques, not dollars.
is this your business or do you work for someone?!.
His own biz.
@@aumjohnfisher8181 nice!.. he just moved didn’t he, from jersey to?!……..
