    Well this is what I would call the ultimate experience in life! Normally I am also "afraid of sharks" but as a recreational diver I have experienced diving next to sharks. Not the Great White, but smaller reef sharks. When you're down there in the sharks' kingdom, miraculously you don't feel no fear, just ecxitement and awe. I admire this lady for her knowledge and courage!!!

    Amazingly beautiful. Love this video. This is what we need. More positive image to show the narrow minded people that Great Whites arent all bad. They are beautiful and deserve to be admired and left alone in their own world.

    I know it sounds crazy but already as a kid my favorite repeating dream was having a great white as a friend! I dived around with them similar as Ocean Ramsey did!(in my dreams) But I love them to this day! They will never stop to impress me but for the right reasons! ❤

    I am not sure about this. Even know it is very cool, I guess I am just glad it worked out this time. I would not recommend most people to try this. You wouldn't go up to a bear in the wild and try to pet it would you? Apex predators needed to be treated with a great deal of respect and distance regardless if they are man-eaters or not. I fear this could end badly in the future. Comments?

    • @cotswald03
      @cotswald03 9 років тому +16

      This is no doubt a very dangerous encounter. However, bears aren't above attacking/eating humans. Sharks on the other hand, attack humans when they're confused and generally don't continue the attack once they've figured out that it's not a seal/dolphin/fish they've bit into. I do agree that these sharks deserve a load of respect though.

    • @epic103

      SharkBytes Apps The sharks seem very calm though. But obviously doing anything with a wild animal is dangerous.

    • @lisardo
      @lisardo 7 років тому +1

      Still though, she chooses to do this of her own free will, and she's been doing it for a long time and understands how sharks' behaviors are. The other two men killed were probably by accident, and doing what they love (not the worst way to go out). Ocean Ramsey has stated that when it comes to sharks, she's trying to protect them and all, but they are still dangerous APEX predators and accidents DO happen.

    She's probably used to diving with this particular shark.I don't think she would just jump in with any random shark,since great whites are known to have different personalities.Some are pretty docile like this one and others are quite inquisitive and will try to check you out the moment you enter the water with them and then there are the aggressive no nonsense ones.You can't really stay on a boat and know which is which.

    Amazing footage but I personally don't like to touch those animals too much. I did 16 dives with GWs in open water and have never felt like I was in danger. We swam with them and they were close but we never had body contact. We don't need to fear them when we are diving with them; but we should always respect them. I'm not judging, I'm just expressing my feelings.

    I wonder if it is because she approaches the shark instead of the shark approaching her and she basically swims with him the same way a pilot fish do? Prey usually runs/swims away from a predator and doesn't usually approach it. Pilot fish swim along with their sharks and the shark doesn't bother with them. Gosh I love these creatures. Truly magnificent.

    • @invidiablue1371
      @invidiablue1371 8 років тому

      +Darcy B It has to be like any other animal. Dogs, bears, etc. You have to speak their language. You have to "speak shark". And you have to understand them. This looks so easy, but any animal expert can make it look that way when they are actually using loads of knowledge to interact successfully like this. With a Great White, it seems like as long as you're not irritating it or getting in the way of it's food and it has realized that you are not what it likes to eat, you're okay. My first thought in this video was "it knows she's there but it won't attack her as food because it's clearly decided she is not what it wants".

    • @darcyb9529
      @darcyb9529 8 років тому +1

      I completely agree. i would love to be able to swim with them. I did a cage dive in Hawaii and fell in love with sharks. I really want to do the cage dive in Guadalupe with the White sharks. It's the only thing on my bucket list.

      Great choice for your list! Bring me along! Just Monday I was in Tacoma at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium and dove in a cage with my dad. :) The doors were open but we had to stay inside. It was beautiful. Especially the Sand Tiger named Sammy. He's scared of bubbles (lol) but right at the end he slowly made his way really close to the cage. I just stared at him. Probably my favorite sharks.

    I wonder how much practice it took the amazing woman to a) conquer her fears about the seal eating warm blooded shark weighing a ton. b) to be able to hold her breath for 5 minutes and c) to get into the state of mind where neither she nor the shark feels threatened. I wouldn't encourage doing this unless all points of consideration are fully taken into account. Maybe it was a once in a lifetime experience for her.

    It's really not that big of deal if you can understand that sharks don't like the tast of humans. Once they're aware of what you are and that you don't pose a threat, they could give a rats ass about you. Most attacks happen because of mistaken identity because humans like to linger at the surface of the water

    Anti has a very valid point.. a few tossed in that gave the divers the stink-eye would have displayed varied behaviors to reinforce caution in any numbskulls out there without Ocean's ...link with them.
    At the same time, juan puts me at ease that all the sharks filmed were being themselves, if only because his group admires and defends them - and so would not do so.
    ONLY Ocean was touching them and that seemed okay for them.

    • @Antipodean33
      @Antipodean33 9 років тому

      ***** Don't need proof, it's easy to spot, so how about you STFU.This pointer has been drugged. I challenge her to come to Australia, i'll pay and i'll take her down near Port Lincoln and watch her prove she can swim with pointers. The challenge is there, all expenses paid. So if she doesn't take it up, it means she is a fraud and is indeed drugging these sharks. You just touch a pointer and they take off at speed. There is no way you could hold onto it's dorsal fin and it not react, it is total BS

    • @Antipodean33
      @Antipodean33 9 років тому

      ***** Hey slow down moron. I've seen the South African dude free diving with pointers in Africa and he gets real nervous when 2 show up. He leaves the water when that happens and when he touches the pointer on rare occasions it takes off at speed. I've dived around sharks here in Australia, but i'd never get in with the pointers. Maybe you could take my offer of an all expenses paid trip to come and dive with our South Australian pointers. The only catch is i'm allowed to film it from a shark cage. So big mouth whats it gonna be?

      Ignorance I firmly believe is caused by the dumbshit press that paints such a bad image of them, from movies like Jaws and Deep Blue Sea. No, it does not mean they gonna attack if u see 'em circling. Like cats and dogs, they do come and investigate. And if u dont know, sharks cannot stop swimming so they gotta keep going hence circling something it has find interesting before either going away or doing the nudge test. Yes, they do take a nip but only because they dont have hands as we humans do to feel things.

    Well i am Scuba instructor and a bit more..., and i agree with you on a purpose of the video that can help to prevent shark from extinction. However, some recreative diver or snorkeler could have the same idea and bad things can happen to them. There is a rule in diving. Don t touch anything. And i repeat; the shark is doing to that girl a favour. :-)

    We are a conservation group that is very against shark fishing. There are multiple great white sharks in the video. The sharks that day were simply not threaten by Ocean and the other free divers filming her that day. However some of the sharks did not like the scuba divers and displayed signs of aggression toward them.

    That pointer looks drugged or half dead. I've had big pointers around our boats for years here in South Australia and i can tell you when you lean over the side to touch them they shoot off really quick. This shark looks like it's been caught on a rod and reel, maybe played for hours on end, then when exhausted and near death they've released it and dived with it or its drugged. It's not even flinching or caring when she grabs it, thats not like pointers at all
