I went out this weekend and tried several HOKA models and each of them had the same exact issue with digging into my inner arch. I'm so relieved to discover I'm not the only one that experienced this. I was so ready to get a pair, but have not found one yet that does NOT have this issue with my feet. Thanks for the review!
Bondi 7 wearer here! I have used them for at least 150km already, actually developed a callus on the medial part on the bottom of my right foot, I didn't know if it was my feet, the model of the shoe, hoka shoes...I guess it's the shoe after watching the video and reading all of these comments
I have the same issue, with all HOKA shoes and boots. I found a solution! Getting custom insoles from a place like Road Runner, and assure they have a firm and rigid outer layer. When you stick them in the shoe it holds the shoe open more and now your feet fit in proper. It goes from unwearable to good, so I’d suggest giving that a try, but think they have to be custom heat molded etc not just off the shelves Dr Sholes too, so they fit your feet perfect and keep the shoe open.
I had this same exact problem when I first looked into getting a pair of Hoka’s. It didn’t matter if it was Bondi, Gaviota or Arahi 6. I was about to give up when the sales guy told me to use a Runners Knot (I think that’s what he called it) when I lace up my shoes at the very top, doing this keeps my feet in place and stabilizes them because I have under pronation issues when I walk. The weird thing is that I only felt it digging into my arch on my right foot and not my left foot before I redid the laces at the top.
I gave up the Hoka Train! I also had the same issue that everyone else seemed to be complaining about expecially the right foot with a sharp edge digging into the Arch of my foot. I even went back and got a wide and still had the same problem. I wish there fixed the issue because if it wasn't for that I would of kept the shoes because it was the most comfortable shoe I ever stepped in besides the arch problem.
I just got the Bondi 8's after trying both the Clifton 9's and Mach 5's. I'm in my 40's, considered morbidly obese at 5'7", 220lbs (down from 260), but do I lot of walking, light jogging and a lot of stretching. The reason I went with the Bondi 8's is because they were comfortable, cushiony, but more importantly felt more supportive overall. The Clifton's were very comfortable (even slightly more comfortable than the Bondi 8's), but as I was trying them, I felt more off balance as I was moving, light jogging in the store and stretched. Not in any crazy way, but enough to be noticeable, so I felt given my age/weight, Bondi's were better overall for the support. I will also say that I tried on the Brooks Glycerin and the New Balance 1080 v12. Those were both no gos for me almost immediately. Despite them feelings supportive, the Brooks Glyercin felt pretty stiff, and not very cushiony. And the NB 1080 v12's, although I liked the design better, and they were very comfortable, they honestly they felt pretty flat to me. I assume this has more to do with my weight, but when compared to both Hokas, I felt the shocks on my knees and bottom of my feet way more when doing some light jogging in the store, so unfortunately had to pass. Just wanted to put this out there for anyone with a similar situation.

Did you wear the Bondi 8’s when you were at 260? I’m 270lbs and 6’2”. I also have wide feet so not sure if I should go with the 2E or 4E. I tried the Cliftons and Arahi’s and liked the Arahi’s best but I think the cushioning is too soft and wouldn’t last long given my weight. Both of these shoes were in 2E and were quite tight.
@@hastensavoir7782 I actually bought a pair and then bought a second pair. Yes, they are all-day comfortable. They are the most comfortable wide shoe I have ever owned actually!

One of the upgrades of Bondi 8 compared to Bondi 7, is that Bondi 8 provides light support for the foot that flip inside. That's why when you wear it, whether it's true size or half a size bigger, you'll always feel a little uncomfortable in the arch area of your foot. So my advice on this Bondi 8 is that you should buy a size half bigger or even one size bigger if your foot is narrow, cause the tongue of Bondi 8 is quite thick and it sews down the insole, it will be quite uncomfortable for your instep if you pick true size
I started wearing hoka Bondi since 2017. That year I got planter fasciitis and my foot dr recommended them. Not many people knew of them back then. They have been trending in popularity ever since. I threw away my Nikes and new balance shoes. Not right away but I buy 2 pair a year. I have the exact same shoe your showing off in 12.5 wide Also in black leather. I usually buy 2 new pair every year… give or take a few months. Since it’s 2 shoes each gets a rest. I’m a caterer/cook and other cooks at my work are now buying them. They receive a 15% discount at our local shop since me and my wife give him business. (As much as they cost it does help). In the beginning you may have a little balance issue because it’s kind of like wearing platform shoes and you don’t want to twist your ankle by accident. That all goes away with a little familiarity with them. The fabric is very breathable. If it rains your sock gets wet. The black leather keeps it out though. For work a black fabric or leather shoe is an appropriate color. For running around and having fun I wear more colordl ones and for yard work I’ll put an old pair on so I don’t mind the grassy discoloration it gets from the grass.
The new colorways are so much better looking than my Bondi 7 in "blue graphite/butterfly green". Despite being hideous looking shoes, I still love them.
Man I just love your video and the way you are reviewing shoes for comfort and daily use Most reviewers just talking about running and running like the all world is 24/7 on running and sports… mean no disrespect but when those people working and enjoy life if they only run constantly
I have been wearing the Clifton 9 in Wide as recommended to me by my podiatrist. I have a high arches in my feet and the doctor said the New Balance and Sketchers do not provide enough support to fill in the gap between foot and shoe padding. I have 2 pairs of Clifton 9 and love them. Then I purchased a Bondi 8 for a trip to San Diego, where I'd be doing a lot more walking, and find them to be better. Now, I alternate between my Clifton 9 and Bondi 8 shoes and find the cushioning in the Bondi 8 to be better, but only a bit more. Oh, and before buying the Bondi 8, I tried on the other "trendy" brand, On Cloud, but found their wide fit isn't as wide as Hoka wides. Wide fits are wide all around, not just in the toes.
just received and tested the "HOKA Bondie 8 Wide" and the same thing happen to me, I AGREE 100% on that it digs in your arch of the foot when I walk on them. unfortunately I'M RETURNING THEM now. Thank you for the honest review, much appreciated. 💗
I bought the Bondi 8 in June 2023 have put on easily 400 miles of walking/running. Picked up the Bondi 9, they are 1/2 the comfort level, but I have been an athlete, personal trainer, and PE Teacher, so I need pain free footwear. This shoe is by far my favorite!!
My foot felt the same way with the Bondi 8. Felt like something was stabbing the middle of my foot every time I walked. I’m not sure if it felt that way since I’m flat footed but I will definitely be returning them for something else. Thanks for the good review 👍🏽
Hokas always run narrow. They only make one shoe that’s wide enough for my feet and it’s the Bondi. But still, best shoe I’ve ever had. The Bondi 7, at least.
I just bought this shoes and I can walk hours and hours a day, without feeling any pain on my knees, thanks to the excellent stability and softness. I really LOVE them 👍
bondi 8 Wide fit heels are a bit loose even after doing the laces and toe box narrow compared to the 7. New balance more V4 wide fit is nice and more cushioned than the bondi 7 and 8 and I feel stable and gives me much bounce walking.
I has a similar problem with the previous version. My pinky toe area would feel like it's sitting on the edge of the insole and gave me bad blisters. I had the 4E but still felt too narrow. The NB More works better for me, fit is better.
I got the Bondi and Cliftons this week. I like them both but actually like the Bondi more, it just feels like it fits all around my foot better and that I am walking on clouds. Going to go to the gym later and take it to the treadmill see how it does.
They are pretty funky and woke (vegan shoe). Wish they still made them more dressy with leather but oh well. Higher margin with these synthetic materials
I watched and read several reviews of the Bondis. After seeing so many say they’re super soft, like clouds, etc., but stable feeling and with arch support - I figured they’re what I’m looking for. I previously used Nike Vomero, ASICS Nimbus, Brooks Glycerin. But since these were touted as being super cushioned but with arch support and stable, figured I’d take the plunge. After just one week, back to Hoka they went! I’m really not sure how people get this cloud feeling from them. I found them so hard and stiff, and they gave me knee, metatarsal and hip pains I’ve never had before. As soon as they were off, the pain dissipated. Back to glycerins , and maybe I’ll try the 1080s.
I have a pair of the Hoka Bondi 8 and the Dr. Scholls cf430 insert that I bought in July 2023 and it is the best pair of running/walking/shooting basketballs/indoor pickleball shoes that I have ever own comfort wise and stability wise. I like them so much that instead of ordering and buying a pair of pickleball shoes, for pickleball. I order this month, another pair Of Hoka Bondi 8 which I am now waiting for from scheels in Colorado Springs. These are more comfortable than any other Asics, or New balance running shoe that I have ever owned over the years. I have a narrow foot and I am flat footed.
I have the same problem that you have on thr shoe. Last year I tried every model that they made since they had a free return and it did on every single one of them I even tried 11s and 11 and a half and still did it when I called Hoka they had no idea what I was talking about so I'm glad to see that someone else has that issue. It's very sharp and digs into your arch . Eads
Omg I thought I was the only one who had the same problem. It was so comfy n I just dint wanna return it but coz it was digging into my medial longitudinal arch I couldn’t risk it
I am on my 2nd pair of Bondi 8 (Black) (Extra Wide) with ortho. My first pair was 20 months ago introduced to me by a salesperson at REI Store.. I use it for work and am on my all day long. I am in sales. Most of my colleagues have also bought the same sneaker and love it. I used to wear my sneakers out till it was falling apart, and I wondered why my feet is in pain. The Bondi are my most expensive sneakers. Previously, the most I would have paid for a pair of sneakers was under $130. Knowing what I know now, I would gladly paid $179 without blinking. It's made my life a whole less painful. I am like bouncing on air. Oh, pro r to this I have tried New Balance, Saucony, Addidas, Nikes, etc.
I've been buying Hoka Bondi's since Bondi 5. Bondi 8 is the best one yet...Bondi 7's were horrible and hurt my ankles. I have purchased six pairs of Bondi 8's and will buy another couple soon...love them that much. 72 years old and run about 25-30 miles a week. Race day I run Saucony Endorphin. Although I might try the Clifton 8 for everyday training...been hearing some good things about that shoe. 😊
I had the same issue with Hoka Bondi 8 too, my feet and toes are not big so I got a regular, but the shoes soles/base does feel like it digging into the bottom of my feet, very uncomfortable to wear, making me not wanting to wear it. the good thing about bondi is that it’s quite durable, I had it for over a year plus now, still hasn’t seem much worn out, probably because I not using it much. 😅
I've had the Hoka Bondi 8s for 16 months now and, quite frankly, should have replaced them 4 months ago, which is why I'm researching which shoe I should get next. I normally where 11s, but when I tried them on in the store, 11.5s fit me best and maybe that's the issue you're having? I've also been told that the Hoka Bondi 8s are some of the best for those with flat feet and that's really the case for me. The only time I felt foot soreness is when I recently decided to push myself and run 10 miles, but my calves were also sore, so I'm not sure if that's a shoe thing or I just needed to build myself up to that distance slower (the most I've previously run with these shoes was 7 miles and typically only do 4.3 miles). My feet *barely* fit into the mid/arch area, so I know exactly what you're referring to. It's a super snug fit for me and again, maybe it's designed specifically for those with flat feet like me? I don't know. I know that I have ZERO hip or knee pain and like I mentioned, only had foot pain one time when I pushed myself and for me, someone with super sensitive baby feet, that's saying a lot! Because my feet are so sensitive and because the Bondi 8s have been so good to me, I'm reluctant to even try something else. I think I must just land up buying another pair of them. Edit: I see the Hoka Bondi 9s are supposed to be released this month. I've got to check those out!
First time hearing the Hoka Bondi 8's and I'm liking the design. Can anyone tell me if they're more/less comfortable than ultraboost DNA's? Like softer midsole or such. Thanks!
I’ve ordered two pairs of hokas to try, the bondi 8 and the challenger 7, tried them on you and I get what you mean about the digging in to the heel/arch area. I’m gonna try water the challengers to work tomorrow and see if I like them. Bondi are 11 normal and the challenger are 11 wide
3:49 same my bondi 7s are really good it starts off as wierd but throught put the day in 10 mints or so the foot settles in firmly and its fun to use but i need black ones for work
Great review! I just bought a pair of the Bondi 8. It's fine, but for some reason I like my Arahi 6 shoes better. The Bondi is supposed to be a max cushion shoe, but it feels pretty firm, not cushy like some say. I just walk, so maybe it's different for runners.
Great review! I had an acl tear a couple years back playing basketball, and at age 40 now, am starting to slow down (just mainly want casual comfort shoes for walking/standing). A friend recommended the Bondi 8’s and when I went to try them on they felt great, but they looked pretty clunky to me, specifically the width (they looked almost like clown shoes). That being said, do you think the Bondi 7s would solve that clown shoe appearance and feel concern for me?? I would have to buy the 7s off ebay or something, so I would not be able to try them on. I did try the Clifton 9's and they were nice, but not as comfortable as the Bondi 8s, but something I might have to settle for. Thanks for your time and hope to hear back.
Had high hopes that these might be my first Hoka but in person they’re too chunky and bloated looking. If they can get that comfort w half the stack I’ll be a buyer
I switched to Hoka sandals a couple years ago but have never tried the tennis shoes yet. Well last season I had a humdinger bout of Planta Fasciitis and I now have a pair of Hoka Bondi 8's and a pair of the Clifton's coming both in EE width. I have high hopes that one will shine over the other, I'm only keeping one or the other. Thanks for your reviews.
Respect an honest review. I just bought these for myself and my wife got the Hoka Mach X, I’m hoping they’re both money well spent since this our first time trying the brand.
@@4Peta20 honestly the bondi’s are very supportive. Not the softest cushion, but I experienced less foot fatigue after wearing them for 8 hours compared to Nike invincible 3, adidias ultra boost 22, and even Nike vapormax. Very good experience.
@@CEEBELLDET thanks for the reply. I just bought a pair today for work. 12 hours of walking on concrete. I was hoping it would be like walking on clouds. But I think they might have to broken in for awhile
Anybody know the toe-to-heel drop on the New Balance Fresh Foam? I'm walking, not running, on them so I don't want a large drop. That's why I was thinking Bondi 8 since it was a 4 mm drop on a max cushioned shoe, most seem to have larger drops and aren't good for posture if you casual wear.
I got them i never need a wide version but I did with these shoes. The wide feels good but as it's already a chunky shoe it looks even bigger, overall i like it
How's the durability on Hoka for someone who walks like 4+ hours a day. Does the soft foam just wear away quick once the tread is gone? Just curious how often I would have to replace these.
I bought a pair of Bondi 7 last June (less than a year ago), the paddings around the heel on both sides are already worn out and there are some sharp structures sticking out. I came home bleeding one day and thought something got into my shoes. I did like them but that’s very disappointing quality (That said, I already ordered a few pairs new Hoka to try…)
I thought they looked so huge on me, and the front does not feel as cushioned as the Clifton. I prefer the Clifton. I love your channel & reviews since I am not a runner either😉.
Yo yo dope vid as always my g. Quick question to anyone. I’m deciding on purchasing Adidas’s Ultrboost for the first time. I’m indecisive between the 5.0 DNA or the 21-22? I have a slightly wide foot but not too wide, and I’ve heard that the 21-22 are a pretty tight, as well as the 5.0 just not as much. Is this true? And for comfortability I’ve seen many comments on different vids that the DNA’s are a bit more comfortable than the 21’ or 22s, but in vids for most comfortable shoes list I only see the 21’ or 22’s. I’d really appreciate the help!
Hes, would enjoy getting your thoughts on the Hoka Mach. I have a pair of 4s that I really like. A little different than Clifton/Bondi as it has a dual density midsole and is a little sleeker.
I have the mach 5 and it's one of my favorite shoes for running. It's a little bit wider than the 4, which I don't like as much because I have a narrow foot, but it doesn't affect it too much while I'm running. At the store I work at, we have a bunch of Mach 4's on clearance, and we can't get rid of them because people keep getting the 5's instead. Probably the best hoka for road running overall.
Wide EE is the way to go! Still lots of support. Got a pair yesterday, we'll see how they hold up? Coming from NB 909 V6 (huge disappointment!). Finger crossed 🤞
Just a heads up, after making this video I returned them and bought a wider pair and it seems to have fixed some of my issues!

For running around and having fun I wear more colordl ones and for yard work I’ll put an old pair on so I don’t mind the grassy discoloration it gets from the grass.
These are the king of comfort! And yah I had to exchange my pair for the 2E wide too. But this is the best looking Bondi for sure
The new colorways are so much better looking than my Bondi 7 in "blue graphite/butterfly green". Despite being hideous looking shoes, I still love them.
I bought the Clifton 8’s and had the same issue. Way too narrow. The wides fit much better and are very comfy.
I agree with you that the Clifton is the best Hoka. But the New Balance Fuel Cell trainer is insane!
Took my knee and foot pain away by the 3rd day wearing them. Is it the cushion? Comfort? Idk but il forever be a customer for hoka
Hoka’s are super dope. I get compliments on mine all the time.
Man I just love your video and the way you are reviewing shoes for comfort and daily use
Most reviewers just talking about running and running like the all world is 24/7 on running and sports… mean no disrespect but when those people working and enjoy life if they only run constantly
Did u end up getting wide version?
3:37 me too. You're the only reviewer I've found who's mentioned the instep cutting into the feet. Doesn't happen on the Clifton and Arahi for me.
Hoka is so damn comfortable if you dont mind the funky look. I usually alternate between NB & Hoka.
ASICS and new balance were very disappointing for me,won’t be touching them again
The color of these that I like the most (royal/light blue) is only available in medium width, which sucks. Hopefully that changes in the future.
I have the same issue with the arch digging into my foot as well. It’s so uncomfortable that my feet hurt after a 8-12 hour work day.
I just did 8 miles today in them and they were digging into my arch. Got some nasty blisters :(
some gifted me a pair 4 years ago best shoes for posture and standing long hours great for walking amazing shoe overall 😊
Bondi 8 or rebel v3 for everyday walking?
I have Hoka bondi 8 and Clifton’s 9 I love them, feels like you walking on clouds
I just bought the Bondi 8 Hokas and they are amazing!! I am going back to get another pair in a different color.
i got the normal at fist and was not happy with it, got the wide and miles better.
I am now wearing the Bondi 7 size 10 4E. It sounds like the Bondi 8 runs smaller more narrow so should i go up a half size. Thoughts please!
Did you try 1/2 size up, and if so, how do they fit?
It is a very good shoe but I still prefer either an Adidas Ultraboost or an Asics Gel-Nimbus instead.
I bought these shoes for myself. I love them. Fits well.
You are literately comparing the shoe that I love to the shoe that I want to switch to. What a great video!! Thanks.
Is Hoka same size as Adidas or Nike?
I’d prefer the bondi 7 in my opinion, bondi 8 is great, just prefer the 7, looks wise and on the foot.
Bondi is my go too
I've had the Hoka Bondi 8s for 16 months now and, quite frankly, should have replaced them 4 months ago, which is why I'm researching which shoe I should get next.
I've had 6 pairs of Hokas. Sad to say but they are now out of my price range. Looking for a video an alternatives to Hoka.
I have the same problem with the digging into the middle on both feet. I had to put in a gel insole to solve the problem.
Go wide sizing
@@uniform1313 i did and still have the arch issue lol
try the Bondi X carbon plated
First time hearing the Hoka Bondi 8's and I'm liking the design. Can anyone tell me if they're more/less comfortable than ultraboost DNA's?
Like softer midsole or such. Thanks!
I’ve ordered two pairs of hokas to try, the bondi 8 and the challenger 7, tried them on you and I get what you mean about the digging in to the heel/arch area. I’m gonna try water the challengers to work tomorrow and see if I like them. Bondi are 11 normal and the challenger are 11 wide
Thank you for reviewing kicks other than Jordan’s etc. Hoka’s are dope🤙
3:49 same my bondi 7s are really good it starts off as wierd but throught put the day in 10 mints or so the foot settles in firmly and its fun to use but i need black ones for work
My foot doctor is great for your feet especially if you have a falling arch stand a long time or do a lot of walking
Best shoes I've tried for constantly walking on my job.
Would you say that the strength of the foot is compromised with more support and cushioning of a shoe?
Great reviews. I tried the Clifton 8 in a wide, but they were too narrow. Do you think the extra wide in the bondi 8 will be worth a try?
Yes he likes that one better... see comment updated above.
How are they?
I found new balance to be more comfortable and longer lasting. Im a big guy. 6'6" and 285#.
Dude, you make a great VLOG! Thanks!
I got them i never need a wide version but I did with these shoes. The wide feels good but as it's already a chunky shoe it looks even bigger, overall i like it
These and crocs are on everybody's feet in the operating room. Except me,I wear my react running joints
Hi. I don't know English. Do you recommend for daily use?
How's the durability on Hoka for someone who walks like 4+ hours a day. Does the soft foam just wear away quick once the tread is gone? Just curious how often I would have to replace these.
i have the same issue, these shoes are very narrow and the wide version is not available in most website
If you have a wider foot I highly recommended going with New Balance. HOKA’s are way too narrow. Even their wider versions are narrow.
great review and it addressed all of my concerns, thanks a lot for this video!
Just bought these had had the same problem with the in sole poking my foot
Are these a rigid soled shoe? Looking for a shoe for hallux rigidus.
More comfortable then the new balance sc trainer? Bigger stack height then the nb sc trainer?
I bought a pair of Bondi 7 last June (less than a year ago), the paddings around the heel on both sides are already worn out and there are some sharp structures sticking out. I came home bleeding one day and thought something got into my shoes. I did like them but that’s very disappointing quality
(That said, I already ordered a few pairs new Hoka to try…)
I just got a pair today on clearance and it's worth the 70 bucks
Hey man what do you recommend for standing all day. ?
Have your tried ON cloud Monster shoes?? It also has the most cushion shoes out there..
Would like to see a review for ON cloud monster & also cloud status.
I have the same problem with Hoka's digging in! Glad to hear you say it!
Do you have a top 5 or top 10 you prefer on the HOKA lineup?
OK...sounds like you didn't even wear it more than five minutes.. Looking forward to a redo review..
been waiting for the top 5 but since then I recently picked up SC trainer and 1080 v12. first time getting new balance and wow they great
please do a review on the skechers max cushioning goga mat...its alot like the hoka
I thought they looked so huge on me, and the front does not feel as cushioned as the Clifton. I prefer the Clifton. I love your channel & reviews since I am not a runner either😉.
I just bought this shoes and yes i bought one size bigger much better comfort
Get a wide version . Feels great
Yo yo dope vid as always my g. I’d really appreciate the help!
hi how do u compare the bondi 8 to the clifton 8?
Do they have to be so narrow. The upper squishes my toes together.
yeah true, my middle toes fucking go numb after 3 miles
I clicked on your link and it only said "bad merchant"
About durability I heard the Bondi 8 is the most durable from the Bondis series. So ain’t a bad choice from this point.
Can you recommend this shoe for working long hours on indoor concrete floor?
If comfort is what you need…Nike Invincible 3, or Asics Nimbus 25…you WON’T be disappointed…neither will your feet!
Your Clifton looks exactly like my Arahi ✌🏾
1:20 transition not transaction
Wide EE is the way to go! Still lots of support. Got a pair yesterday, we'll see how they hold up? Coming from NB 909 V6 (huge disappointment!). Finger crossed 🤞
It’s a great shoe, got them as a gift but it’s too soft for me. Made me felt like I’m slower
