    I love going ultralight and catching bluegill, shell cracker, green sunfish and crappie! Some of the most fun a fisherman can have!
    Thanks Roland.

    Blue Gill fishing is the best way to get kids into fishing. Lite tackle and lots of action.

    This right here is what I like the most about Mr. Martin. A man of his status in fishing community is making shows catching bluegill and fishing goal courses, fishing off of a Jon boat with a ply wood deck. It's awesome!

    Really interested in the Beetle Spin setup. Going forward can you do a close up of lures and rigging. Would be a huge help. Also maybe links in the description to products used so we can purchase. Great video,

    Bluegill are a favorite of mine. I use a 3 wt. Fly rod and dry flies, poppers, adams, hoppers etc.
    IMHO..absolute best way to catch them. Especially if weeds are present .

    If I don't catch one right there they ought to take my fishing license... laugh out loud. I have caught almost everything on beetle spin. From sunfish and crappie to bass and pike...sand bass and smallies... what have I missed walleye too...always got a beetle spin with either a twister tail or a swim bait of some sort "sassy shad" type. I have literally had a chartreuse metal flake sassy shad and beetle spin combo in my tackle bag for over... well since '83. That's over 35 years. A guy I worked with told me about em. Next trip through Walmart...Sold!

  • @johnhancock517

  • @MARKLOCKWOOD2012
    @MARKLOCKWOOD2012 5 років тому +2

    Using small crank baits yes the beetle spins work. I use mostly worden’s rooster tails. The very small I can’t think of the oz their smallest. Like your friend said bass hit them. Bout a pound is about all I want torture my ultra light tackle. If the treble hooks is all you can find I either nip some hooks off to get it to a single. Treble you run into over hooking the 🎣. Even ordering order with single hooks. Colors are grey/white ,chartreuse/black. Then get into solid colors. Our wall mart i avoid like the plague. They have stuff but more times than not waste of a trip. Plus nobody on register in sporting goods.

    Nothing negative here, but I’m wondering why you mentioned using crickets instead of worms, or bread balls as the top food baits for bluegills? I’ve never used crickets, nor has my 93 y/o father in all our lives fishing for anything in either NJ or FL. I’ve never had any success using those Beetle Spins lures although I’m sure they work. What about using Trout Magnet lures? If it matters, I agree with you about lighter line when fishing for panfish, but you left out what size hooks. I use size sizes from #4 down to #10 J style straight shank. I’m guessing you were using a 6’10” rod when you read it off the label, not the 7’3” you said before looking? Honestly, I’ve never used anything bigger than 6’, though most were 5’ to 5’6” medium to ultra light rods with spinning reels. I’m learning as I go about using those much longer rods for even the simplest of fish to catch. I bought a 9’ Crappie light combo by Shakespeare and out 8lb low vis braid on it and it makes even the smallest fish seem like a trophy. LOl. Best wishes.

    • @NealVan

      Learn something new everyday. Sadly for me being disabled, I can’t go out to a bait shop and buy them. I guess I’ll just stick with using nightcrawlers, bread balls, and my own patented dough bait. I was just curious why the baits I grew up using weren’t mentioned as everyone knows bluegills will attack nearly anything.

      Thanks for that bit of info Roland. I’ve never been to most of the lakes you’ve fished being from NJ and now living in Inland Central Florida on a brackish water canal. I sure wished someone who is experienced in bass fishing might stop by and fish with me and show me all I’m likely doing wrong. I catch Mullet like you catch Bass. LOL
