@@contrabandjoe7974 Hell yeah, I live in Australia and there's old fenders and Gibsons around with price tags that make my eyes water. But a year or two ago I found a beautiful condition (ohsc!) two p'up Stratotone Mars with the dearmond pickups that (I think) are the one's nicknamed Hersheys bar, that is they aren't flat chrome covers like the h-44 or Newport but have the ornamental raised centre, that I think looks like a PIECE of a hersheys bar...yeh, anyways; it was going for a price I could handle and it sounds unbelievable! Its the guitar sound on SO many of my favorite early R'n'R and especially Chess era Chicago electric blues albums. which led me to look a bit deeper and so I found Kay guitars and the early valco amps. So, I sold all my modern stuff and focus on the 'junk' stuff and I dont regret it!
@@melvynobrien6193 This *isn't* a Japanese Import made out of Plywood and with badly cut fret slots. It might not have an intonatable bridge, but the 1961 - 1968 Beginner Instruments that were Made in America are better than the chintzy category you're probably thinking of. I know the other type you might mean, though. Really though, I had a "Prestige" Import that I paid $3 for in a yard sale. The stupidly made pickguard was Metal, and it shorted out the circuit and made the volume and tone controls absolutely useless. That was entirely *stock,* so I don't know what they were trying to achieve with it. Comparably, my Silvertone 1448 built by Danelectro - though cheap - is a remarkably fun instrument. It only has one pickup, but there's nothing else quite like a 23.50" scale Danelectro which one of my favorite musicians (Dexter Romweber) also had a penchant for playing.
This one has a strange scale length: 24 1/4 inches. Sometimes, you can find odd scale length instruments. I read that Kay Vanguards have a length of 25 3/4. My Mosrites are 24.5".
A two pickup Harmony Bobcat was my first electric guitar in 1965. It was a great guitar with great sound. Often lament not having it anymore. Again, you are perhaps one of the most innovative guitarists on You Tube. Incredible talent.
My first electric in 1965. I believe my Dad paid about $40 for it new. He also bought me the now VERY rare, used, but mint '64 transition Fender Champ in black. That was $40 also. Sold the Champ in 1971 for $80 (now worth $900). In 1971, bought mint 1964 Gibson Titan III AND a 1964 Gibson Melody Maker for $125!!! Melody Makers had no value then, so traded it and the Bobcat in on a Casino. Sold the Gibson amp last year for $1,800.
YEAH Harmony Bobkat baby!! I have this exact guitar but with two pickups and IT RIPS!! I almost forgot how awesome it is until I watched this video 🔥🎸🔥
$65 for this, when a Fender Jaguar would set you back $350 in the 1960s. Then again they slapped these together quickly to get them out the door, but I think there was something to that since Fender starting selling student models like the Duo-Sonic.
Nice use of the thumb on #2 Mr. Lemmo! Initially debuted as the Silhouette Series in 1963; was renamed the Bob Kat series in 1968. Sounds great for a budget guitar.
Stumbling across you recently has drastically improved my life! In New Zealand and locked down etc and you take me away from that. Thank you. I live on a beautiful French steel yacht and I just sold my Gibson hummingbird custom 73. I recently gave away a guild 6 string I bought in USA a few years back and I'm left with a 91 lowden. Lovely guitar. I love your demos. Your guitsrs are awesome and Michael love your playing. Great originals and your style is diverse. You seem to know what tunes suit each guitar. Brilliant.
I had a black to red sunburst 2 pickup model. One of the many pieces of gear i have owned and sold when things got tight. One of the few i truly miss. Those are great slide guitars.
I've have had one of these in my basement for years not knowing just how awesome of a guitar it is. I think I may have to fix it up and start playing it. Thanks for the awesome video!!
Nice to see something a little unusual and it sounds great. Btw, Harmony Bobkats are also notable because Annie Clarke (aka St. Vincent) played a two-pickup '67 model for a while.
Your style of guitar playing is awesome! Your unique style keeps bringing me back for every new video you post! Would definitely go see you play live if you ever made it to either Charlotte, North Carolina or maybe Atlanta, Georgia!
That's strange. Just last night I was playing my H17 (same model as Annie Clark uses). Mike, look under the pickguard and you'll find a manufacture date stamped there. It's not the date the guitar was actually made but the date the DeArmonds were put in the pickguard prior to it being installed on the guitar. Fretboard's not rosewood. Also these guitars were known as the Silhouette model until 1968 when the name was changed to Bobkat.
One of the coolest guitars you guys have done in a while. It is guitars like these (and your playing of course) that keep people from outside California coming to the channel. The classics are rad, but you don't see great examples of the more interesting guitars very often.
I enjoyed the quick picking on that last song. Also, I kinda like that Bobkat’s unique sound. It’s different. Thanks for sharing! Thanks Jen and Lemmo (and Norm) for the show.
Awesome Lemo and Harmony does it's thing. They used to be the number 1 guitar manufacturer in America, they have some great guitars, I have a great playing and sounding Harmony Clapton Blackie and I like it more than many fender strats I've played. Great original music from Michael Lemo, I hope it was original but even if not, great guitar of the day.
I'm glad that Michael mentioned the similarities between this and the Jaguar / Jazzmaster. Looking at the thumbnail, it tempted me to say that I preferred it with the three-tone sunburst and the tortoise shell pickguard. If I paid better attention to the title, I would have realized it was not even about a Fender model.
Two of the best instrumentals I've ever heard in my life. I really really enjoyed your playing. Keep doing what you do. You re awesome and really vibe. I wish I could play like you. Really gotta check out Open G Tuning.
These things generally play good & sound great. Replace the floating bridge with a TOM type if you want better intonation adjustment. Or just mount a TOM on the existing bridge base if you don’t wanna drill post holes.
Man. Tuning in again from Norway. Just came from the studio. Having a glas of wine. Remembered i have not checked your progress as a host since july. You got something special in your playing. Cheers. You the man!!!
I think I owned one of these back in the 80s. I walked into a record store and it was hanging from the ceiling. I asked how much. He said $50. I sold it months later in a yard sale...I should've kept it! a really great gold foil pickup!
man that Lemmo is amazing , he could string spaghetti across a tree branch and make it sound good , I mean that guitar had a much stronger tone than I expected from a wal mart guitar , I do like those foil pick ups also , I have one on a silvertone and it sounds great also , very impressed by this Harmony , even more so by Lemmo's magic fingers. thanks guys.
I've been so distressed lately that I can't find any good new instrumental guitar music. This is great stuff. I wish I could buy it. First time here. Must explore more of this channel!
Very nice. He can make anything sound good. I had a Harmony as a kid and loved it. The previous owner had painted “Wild Ones” on the headstock in some sort of rock hard car paint, but the guitar played nice and sounded good. I wouldn’t mind having it back. Great playing in this video once again.
It sounds killer and Lemmo is a great guitar player. It's always good to see that affordable vintage guitars still rocks. Hope to see more Vids like this in a near future. Rock on Lemmo!
One of those was my first guitar when I was a kid in the early 70's. Had the exact same case and all! I wish I still had it but I don't even remember what happened to it LOL!
Beautiful playing, you have amazing talent, I destroyed a 59 melody maker to get a h15 I saw in the music store where I was talking lessons, I was 12,my plan didn't work.
I have one. It is the two pickup model. It has not been out of the case for years until today. Two of the Gold Foil Pickups and a toggle switch. Made in USA sticker in the same place.
I’ve got a harmony ive had since I was 5, nothing this old just a cheap catalogue strat copy. I’ve tossed some better touches like a complete Carvin pick guard and leveled it recently. Still shreds and I’m happy to have something off brand that still makes ppl ask what is that. Interesting to see harmony back too in a much more boutique style
Somebody must have a warehouse full of bobcats, because all of a sudden they're everywhere on UA-cam.. talking about how great they are even though they don't stay in tune

Gilber Gilmore DGDGGD

Burns, Baldwins & Watkins as well!
